Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

De Jong is a decent #6. Too much of a hatchet man for my liking but I would take him for that fee. And remember, the only midfielder we have capable of defending and making timely interceptions just had his worst season at the club.

That would fill me with confidence, personally.

Much better than that ginger gollum twat telling everyone that will listen that he has a shite squad.

We were the Champions and within a month he felt he needed 5/6 players to go into the first team?! What a prat

I think Van Gaal will make a couple of good additions but his real value will be getting us to play dynamic football again and getting performances out of our squad

Everyone at MUTV is so confident about signing players, I reckon that Ed Woodward is very busy atm.
Would the people from MUTV even know? I remember Paddy on the radio getting angry at the rumors SAF was retiring saying it wasn't happening.

Meh, there's bigger chance of them knowing a thing or two than Agentx1249 or YourdailyITKbread having a clue.

Aye because they're all puppets on there, they'd be out of a job if they were constantly saying we're shit in the market, not gonna spend, should have bought by now etc..

I have no faith in Woodward since he said you do not need to win trophies to sell shirts. Still nothing happened to change my view on him.
That was taken entirely out of context, and everyone had a silly paddy at the time. He was asked a direct question in an interview, he didn't just come out with it off the top of his head. Here is the question asked, and his answer.

Do United need to win trophies to keep attracting sponsors?
No. If you fight hard and just fail, people will still watch you on television, still turn up and buy shirts. There’s still a lot of affinity with the club. The reality is that you can’t always win.

Take Liverpool. They still sell an incredible number of shirts and have the second biggest shirt deal in the Premier League. They have one of the biggest technical partner deals. And Liverpool haven’t won the league since 1990.

If we have a bad year, we have the financial strength to change the team.

Not at all the big deal it was made out to be.

Hang on, surely MUTV wouldn't tow the party line which is that everything is dandy, and that every top player is gagging to come here?

Giggs will no doubt have had an input too, after all he's played with them so he should know their strengths and weaknesses. All this, of course, in the context of the formation Van Gaal intends to adopt.

I'm convinced Valencia's new deal was Giggs' doing. That particular group seem to love him and are obsessed with an apparent United tradition of a winger running up and down the wing and crossing the ball repeatedly.

You do have a point, but most of the times they say that there will be players coming without being asked about that.

The likes of Crerand and especially Macari are absolutely clueless, and much as I love Paddy - that extends further than just their views on the transfer market.

Yeah, Gary Neville is always on about it when United play that Valencia should be playing (if he's not) and they need to have him getting down the byeline and whipping in crosses.

I think United need a Director of Football, as I cannot see Woodward doing much better than last summer.
If we are to get one, my guess would be that it'd happen next season.

That doesn't even make sense. A DoF doesn't sign the players, he just selects the targets. Woodward would still be doing the deals, you'd just have a DoF doing the job van Gaal would have been doing. Woodward doesn't decide who to sign, van Gaal does (or a DoF would). How would that change how Woodward does his job? You'd just have another person choosing the targets and Woodward still trying to secure the deals. If anything, a DoF would only be of use if you didn't trust van Gaal to pick the right players.

Not particularly a fan of Woodward’s (nothing to do with transfers either), but I think it’s unfair to start on him already. He has a list of targets, and until the 31st Aug to see about getting them. He'll also have Van Gaal to support the cause post-WC.

I think we'd all love something now to get excited about, but we may have to wait a wee bit longer.

This might just be me but my annoyance with Woodward isn't because of the lack of transfer business it's him briefing the media of our business. He spoke about us getting deals done before the world cup, spending more than usual, bringing top quality players ect......I'd much rather complete silence on this part until deals are done.

But as you say it's to early to give the final verdict on Woodward, but he surely needs to have something up his sleeve because it seems we're set for an other underwhelming transfer window.

I see Nigel De Jong linked with us for £6m. I think he's exactly what we need with a great price tag to boot considering he's 29 years old.

Wouldn't want him. Clumsy, can't pass and generally just a red-card waiting to happen.

United fans in 'not wanting someone the club is linked with' shocker.

It's like the Cavani thing. Link his name to Chelsea, Madrid and Liverpool and this place would be awash with criticism of the club for not being in for him. Now we are linked with him "Do not want!!"

Some fans just pick out one player who they want (plus every player that's ever linked with anyone else but not us) and think anything else is an outrage. If Vidal was close there'd be murders asking why we're not in for someone else.

People don't want Cavani because we already have Rooney and RVP struggling to fit. No need to add further complication.

There's always a place for that type of footballer, he can't be first choice anymore, but he would good to have as an option. Besides, his end product was better this season than it was when we won the league, I wonder if that is any indication that his form could have improved somewhat or will do. He's done more than Kagawa that's for sure.

Cavani only makes sense if Van Gaal intends to employ Rooney in central midfield rather than further forward. That said though, Cavani wants to leave PSG as he's playing second fiddle to Ibrahimovic. Why would he come to Utd and play second fiddle to RVP?

Yeah, it has nothing to do with us already having two really good strikers and struggling to fit them in.

Yet still a better and more reliable than Cleverley Fletcher and Anderson. For £6m it would be a steal.

The transfer window is not fully open till 1st July. Plus I'd be very surprised if LVG bought before Holland were eliminated as he'd leave himself open to criticism in Holland that he wasn't fully focused. We will sign players no doubt and I don't really care who it is as LVG is no mug.

A bit of a silly way to dismiss legitimate concerns. Show me one sane person who would be unhappy if we announced Vidal tomorrow.

No it has everything to do with fans presuming van Gaal is a complete moron and will pitch up at United after sanctioning signings and say to Rooney and Cavani "Shit, you're both forwards too?"

Why do people have so little faith in the man already that they think he's unaware as to who plays where? IF we are interested in Cavani can we at least afford the new guy the honeymoon benefit of assuming he at least knows what the feck he is doing?

Like we did with moyes and fellaini? I remember having the exact same argument last year.

Wait, last year you were arguing that we had too many central midfielders so we shouldn't sign another one?

No, that fellaini wasnt the right midfielder for us. Only to be told, trust moyes, etc. Or when a few of us wanted moyes sacked, then it was trust in SAF to know what he is doing.

Right so you're not arguing against Cavani just that Cavani "isn't the right forward for us"

So basically you wanted Moyes sacked before some other people therefore wish to treat van Gaal like a moron as if he doesn't know what he's doing? I hardly think knowing Moyes was a bit shit is hugely insightful and qualifies you to dictate what van Gaal should and shouldnt do in the transfer window.
