Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

A little competition known as the world cup is holding off transfer activity this summer, be patient things will start to happen in July.

Last summer we needed to give the new manager time to settle in so we didn't start our transfer work until July.

Now, how did that go again...

Why is everyone banging about Shaw as if its a done deal... There is absolutely nothing to suggest he has signed. It is still all just hearsay!

I was in flying form today with the world cup starting up and get in the door to Cesc signing for Chelsea... They are putting united to shame again in the transfer market this summer.

F me that was the start of the Moyes era! We have secured LVG who will attract good players.

So it's hardly surprising people get worried after last summer. We've been "close" to several deals already (Kroos, Shaw, Cesc, Sanchez, Bastian, Miranda, Garay) but thus far haven't looked like signing any of them. People are still shell-shocked, the fans badly needed a lift at the start of this window. That has failed to materialise.

We were close according to twitter. We only know for sure that we were interested in Kroos at a point and that we bid for Luke Shaw. Everything else is just speculation.

It would be nice to wake up to the news that we'd signed Vidal and Schweinsteiger, I get that, but the season is two months away and a lot can happen in that time.

The difference this summer is that we have a manager who is not only experienced at the highest level he's also credited as being world class at spotting potential. We are in a much better position this summer, as hard as that is to believe for some.

To be fair, if Woodward fails to get LVG's targets then I think LVG may strangle him. So there is that to look forward to.

We've still got Woodward though.

Hmmmm this is all seeming to be a bit like last summer. Van Gaal or not you would have thought we would have learned about getting things done quickly. Everything that happens at this club seems to take an age.

I refuse - REFUSE - to get worked up until after the World Cup. If things continue to go nowhere after the tournament's over - when we'll actually be able to aggressively pursue any and all targets - I'll probably be tempted by this place into starting to throw toys out of prams. But not until then.

So that leaves us Koke who I'd say is 99% no chance. Vidal 100% no chance. Strootman I'd say is more 30/70. Schweinsteiger 50/50 (maybe I'm dreaming). Rakatic has gone to Barca. Pjanic signed new deal with Roma. Gundogan signed new deal with Dortmund.

Unless there are some other really top drawer midfielders out their I have not seen I think we may be starting with the same crap as last season. The fact is we don't even need one midfielder we need two ffs.

Some people are acting like spoilt little girls..it's shockingly embarrassing! If it was the first week of August I would understand! I for one will just be relaxing and enjoying the WC. I will start to worry come August where criticism of lack of activity in the market will be justified but I am quietly confident that LVG will secure some of his targets by then.

We've still got Woodward though.

Woodward was at the club when we signed Juan Mata. If he can be involved in the process to sign a player like that from a rival, for a club transfer record, then what would stop him getting targets identified by Van Gaal other than player/club not wanting it?

He's obviously not as incompetent as he's made out to be.

Woodward has been working on transfers for months according to his own mouth.

Would be impressed if he had been working on LVG's targets for months, when did we actually appoint the guy?

As for Moyes' targets, they really count for feck all at this stage bar the one or two like Shaw who LVG has apparently approved of.

This. Some on here are hysterical already and it's not even half way through June!

It's just last year's disaster preying on everyone's minds. Any player we don't sign will get this reaction, even if we didn't even want them. Hopefully the WC will distract everybody...

I'm guessing you said the same thing this time last year.

I will be enjoying the WC regardless.

But I do not believe it is embarrassing to feel worried and annoyed. We are fans and have a right to be as we love the club and want to be challenging for top honors. Last summer has of course played on most fans minds and yes we all know there is a lot of time left. I think the time left is not the issue anyway more our ability to sign top players or pay the ridiculous fees that are necessary when embroiled in a bidding war. I will feel a right tw@t if Woodward pulls some gems out of the bag but the confidence in him is very low and very understandable.

What a bunch of criers!

So Chelsea signed him, so what?

It's quite clear LVG didn't fancy him

I don't think thats the issue with some people though.

Personally, I'm pretty annoyed with all the crap we have been filled with and we've seen next to no activity, while countless other clubs have signed or pursued their targets.

Basically, it's last summer again

Chelsea and Barca have each signed one player.

Our manager is in charge of a WC team. What do you expect him to do, ask his current bosses if he can take a break to get to work for his future bosses?

Yeah, I get that but people wanting Woodward and the Glazers out because we haven't signed anybody yet? Only Chelsea have made a major signing!

You guessed wrong! I never wanted Moyes. I can feel safe in the knowledge that LVG who I do want at the club can pull his desired targets, I'm excited for next season and I am certainly not going to get my knickers in a twist because we haven't signed anyone at the start of June.

So have Barca. Point is, we needed to make a statement more than Chelsea and should have tried to get some work done before the WC. We seemed to have failed miserably at it. I am not panicking but this calm that we will be fine is not something I share either.

Same shit different summer

We'll sign no one this summer.... Not of any note anyway

The only worry in that is LvG is not going to be negotiating. He will only give his choices to Woody who will then have to perform. That is what causing a lot of worry among fans.

We won't be facing Barca next season so I don't really care what business they do. And buying players to make a statement would be a terrible transfer policy. It's what Moyes seemed to be trying to do. Thankfully Van Gaal seems smarter than that.

Need to set up a suicide watch for some posters. And it's barely June. :)
