Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

I'm fine with that except for Shaw's wages. No 19 year old deserves 100k a week, and it sets a bad pattern for the club. If a new young player gets that much, other players in our squad will want to get raises 100%.

Also, we're going to have to give the lad an extension in the future with a raised wage. We'll be talking Rooney style wages soon if we start high.

And if Shaw fails here, no one will want to pay 100k for him so we wouldn't be able to sell.

50k a week max for him.

Normally I'd agree but he's going to have other clubs including Chelsea after him and the only thing we have over them at the minute could be money (they can't go overboard due to FFP limitations) - they have a better team and play in CL plus are his boyhood club after all.

Chelsea just sold Luiz for 50 mil and he was on big wages. I'm pretty sure if they wanted they could match our bid and wage offer. If they haven't, they're going for someone different I would assume.

Yeah but they'll sign Costa and Fabregas for more than that and both will be on more than Luiz most likely.

Maybe its just me but I just don't get it.

How is Luiz worth 50 million?

Wouldn't take Barkley. Too expensive, you could sign an equally talented Brazilian or Spaniard for half the price.

Except that Spaniard/Brazilian won't sign for us.

We should go for Barkley now, regardless of it being possibly the only position we may not need to strengthen in.

£50m may do it. In a year or two it may take double.

We need to add a quality attacker, maybe winger would be better though.

Two CMs, LB, CB and an attacker.

We do not need Barkley. Couldn't careless where he ends up either.

£50 million for a fourth choice number ten is too much, no thanks.

50mil for a position you yourself say we dont need anyone in? Makes no sense. 50mil would get us a top CM, no need getting another 10 to inevitably try and convert him into a CM. And I dont see why his price in a year or 2 matters anyways, we wont need him then either and if we did, it'd still be at prices similar to now rather than double (100mil?).

Hello we played Rooney in the positions we signed him for and intermittently in the roles he ''can play . What's nonsense is suggesting that we sign Barkley to play him in a role he'd be average in, we need a midfielder so let's sign one and desist from basing our signings on one's passport .

My guess is he'll be around 50-70 wages wise.

Now where Müller seems to have extended his contract, Kroos on his way to Real Madrid, and Reus prisoned at Dortmund for another year, whose the next German midfielder journos will link you to this summer? What about Julian Draxler or Max Meyer? Max Kruse or Patrick Herrmann?

Our only hope is that Woody has invented time travel.

I absolutely refuse to believe we won't do any business before the World Cup.

Anyhow, It works out. As soon as the WC starts, I'll forget about transfers and then as soon as it's over I'll just continue the muppetry just where I left off.

Well it starts in exactly 31 hours so not much time left :)

But there are some players we can do deals with that aren't at the worldcup, Miranda and Strootman for example are 2 targets we're heavily linked with that aren't at the worldcup.

The only target I could still see us wrapping up before the worldcup is Shaw, if we have agreed personal terms, then who knows things could start to happen on that front. Altough I think it is more likely it will be finalised after the worldcup (atleast after England are out of it, which I don't think will be too long :p). I also think it might take until Souton have a new manager before the deals gets finalised (also don't think that will be too long).

But players like Sanchez for example, Barcelona are waiting for him to shine at the worldcup and start of a bidding war between us, Juve and other interested clubs, but they aren't going to entertain any offers until after the worldcup. Other targets also fall into that category.

Really did not expect superstar signings, but i would have thought that some decent talent could have been brought in this summer. It seems we will be scraping the bottom of the barrel for leftover scraps after Woodward and Van Gaal are done. Should not be shocked as i think Van Gaal has been brought in to rebuild on the cheap.

I don't know what inside sources you have saying that LVG was brought in to rebuild on the cheap but maybe we're just learning from our mistakes. Last summer people were arguing about our inability of keeping our transfer business under wraps and how making it public is hindering our chances, now it looks like we've learned from our mistakes and are instead keeping it secret. Just look at Mata last January, the media got a sniff only less than 1 week before he was confirmed on the club website.

We might have rushed a bit on the Luke Shaw front with all the leaks going around about the bid and interest since last year but that's it. There wasn't any major leaks from the club since then, only the usual newspapers linking us to every player in Europe that might be looking for a new club.

I agree. Not sure LVG would have taken the job if he had one hand tied behind his back before he even started. The top signings are never easy business to do and your talking about players that still have contracts to clubs. There are also other big teams or teams with big money interested in them; horse play with players who are using us to get a better contract from their existing clubs; also lots of cloak n dagger stuff from clubs 'stating' that they are looking at options to force players and clubs to take their offer.

Also the most important IMO - footballers having to convince the wife to more to another country. I'm convinced the issues around capital cities are more related to wives than the players......

We seem to range from haughty dismissal of rumours linking us with top players, to suicidal thoughts when rumours don't.

We have a top class manager and we will sign some top players this window, the caf needs to calm down.

I cannot wait for next season.

Anybody remember the Nani/Anderson signings? they came out of nowhere. I genuinely believe that the media know nothing regarding us this summer.

No sure about Ando, but we were linked with Nani, I even remember reading in a paper that Spurs were interested in him too, the only difference was that we finished the transfers quickly, so the press couldn't write much anyway.

True that. It was quite obvious that a few weeks ago we were being linked with everyone but now they've just given up. It's either that we've plugged a leak and are doing business on the quiet this time or we aren't actually doing anything, neither of which would surprise me.

This Schweinsteiger thing does seem to have legs though, as does the Sanchez thing.

We aren't doing nothing mate. I think that things will start moving very quickly after the World Cup.
