Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

I'm opening myself up her for some abuse here but is anyone really believing that after all the 'homework' we did and 'having deals all but secured' that players are about to sign for United when that window opens on July 1st or at least after the World Cup ends?

This PR stunt from Woodward is embarrassing in my eyes. Yes I know the window is not officially open but that just makes it even more the wrong thing to say. All that has happened since the season ended is he has a new job to juggle as well as his role at United and we have signed a pharmaceutical sponsorship deal. Oh yeah and that under 17 goal keeper from somewhere in Europe.

Even the most reliable rumor of Shaw is still not completed. Southampton are obviously playing hardball with fee so have we extended Evra contract out of necessity or maybe even to kid Shaw into handing in a formal transfer request? Now they have a new manager to find they will drag it out for as long as they can. Again a drama with limited time we can do without.

Apparent Moyes/LVG List
Cavani an expensive luxury that we can do without unless offloading Rooney or RvP - says he is happy at PSG.
Carvahlo we must have scouted this player more than any I can remember. Has now said he is committed to Sporting.
Muller has signed new deal so maybe our club was being used as a bargaining chip.
Kroos said United have never been in his thoughts.
Fabregas according to every respected Journo is not wanted by us and close to joining Chelsea.
Schweinsteiger rumours again could be more to force Bayerns hand then him actually wanting to leave, may be some truth though.
Clasie really.... after one assist to RvP and the fact he is Dutch.
Strootman knee ligament injury back training in October and Roma best player last season prior to injury, obviously has a good relationship with LVG but Roma do not want to sell.
Hummels father is his agent and says categorically that he will not be leaving Dortmund.
Reus will now miss start of the season but he has also publicly announced how happy he is at Dortmund and that he will be playing for them next season.

Moyes has even come out and said that it was no secret he had put in a lot of work in to secure Toni Kroos signing. For Kroos to publicly shun us since may be sour grapes on his part and it may be true that Van Gaal really does not want him. He either has so much confidence that Strootman will be back playing to his best this year and that Roma will then sell him to us. Very big ifs especially with Roma basically being able to command a ridiculous fee for him.
Surely he does not want to go into the season with current squad. As good as a manager he has proven over 20 years I do not believe him the miracle maker who will somehow get our poor midfield to compete with Chelsea, City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton and even Spurs.
Add our shite wingers and the fact our two best CBs of last 7 years have both left the club, means a hell of a lot of pressure will be on Mata, Rooney, RvP and Januzaj to play out of their skins and hope the mediocrity behind them manage to hold it together.

I'm really hoping the Sanchez rumours are true but again this does no resolve our midfield issue.

With the opening WC game today we can more or less rule out any dealings (excluding Sponsorship's of course) for the next 4 weeks as surely most of our targets will be in Brazil.

I'm pessimistic not just based on last years farce but also on the fact we have needed midfield additions for 4 years now. Bringing Scholes out of Retirement, playing Giggs in that role and a man who had a serious medical condition to overcome just shows the desperation. Carrick is turning 33 and was not the most mobile of players in his prime and Cleverley is just so very average.
Also I watch MUTV reserve games and we hardly have a great midfielder in the reserves ready to step up.

The club must sell the project with no European football on offer and the club must also be willing to pay whatever it takes to get his targets...so many variables and with Ed Woodward in charge I'm worried.

I will eat my words if we are indeed surprised by some great signings this summer but I for one feel we will have a mare again followed by another long and disappointing season. Lets just hope the fixture list is kinder this year.

What are everyone's thoughts?

Actually the vast majority goes home after 2 weeks, a few make 3 weeks and very few make the full month.

True I was thinking worst case scenario and I do feel Germany will go far, LVG likes his Germans by all accounts. Then you always have players saying they will not discuss their future until they have a nice holiday after long season etc.

For me that is why it was imperative to do deals early as in the last 5 weeks - which might actually be happening for all I know.

I guess we will wait and see.

From my recollection of world cups, you more or less figure out who is going to end up where during the final week.
Agents, scouts are all at the world cup and negotiations etc take place.

Most of the time, the deals are finalised after the WC, however the deals are usually agreed during.

It will be interesting to know if Ed will be in Brazil himself and not just looking for our official Coffee sponsor.

I can't recall too many coming out with that one.

I can over the years, I'm sure they do also say 'it will be left to my agent whilst I'm away'.
I chose to leave that one out to stick with the gloomy feel of my original post ;)

Anybody remember the Nani/Anderson signings? they came out of nowhere. I genuinely believe that the media know nothing regarding us this summer.

We're linked with so many: Miranda, De vrij, BMI, Mangala, Laporte, Benatia, Rami, Hummels, Clasie, Strootman, Blind, Janmaat, De Sciglio, Shaw, Benat, Coentrao, Alba, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Carvalho, Song, Fabregas, Kroos, Kovacevic, Vidal, Pogba, Schweinsteiger, Lallana, Sanchez, Di Maria, Depay, Konoplyanka, Griezmann, Müller, Pedro, Cavani, Martinez...

It is becoming almost statiscally impossible not to have atleast a couple of them correct.

This is starting to be like last summer all over again.

Not really. When we start missing out on targets we actually go for, that's when it'll be a repeat of last summer.

In all likelihood we already have the Shaw deal all but wrapped and any other targets will naturally be delayed until after the WC. If nothing looks promising in the couple of weeks after the final, that's when we know things are dodgy.

I think not signing Fabregas was a mistake. Players of his level don't become available every day, not to mention he moved for very reasonable money... He would've improved our midfield no matter of what system LVG plays.

I don't think it was our mistake, he just prefered Chelsea. So Rakitic done, Fabregas done, which midfielder now? Maybe some more news to Carvalho? But we still need someone more creative beside him. It's a pity, that Stootman is injured now and that Gündogans career is fecked at the moment :(

Seems like LVG didnt want Cesc. If he wanted him we would surely bid if nothing especially given we wanted him last year.

I believe LVG know what players he wants and we will get those deals done.

Cesc's statement said that there were other offers, I wouldnt be surprised if we did put in a bid but he wasnt interested.

I am starting to worry about this transfer window turning like last year's, Ed Woodward's transfer negotiating ability is in question quite frankly. I just pray that we have the transfers lined up to get wrapped up after the world cup.

Well for start I think Shaw deal is already wrapped up and waiting to be announced after WC. Maybe we're negotiating few other deals and who knows maybe some other deal is waiting to be announced. Well nobody knows anything, we should all hope we'll get a player or 2 in midfield.:)

With the official addition of Cesc and the likely signing of Costa, Chelsea have all but secured themselves as a title challenger next season. Come on Woody, we need you to get it right this time around. We need to stop going for plan B and C and start getting plan A from the go. The question is if there will be any plan A players left before we actually sign anyone.

Seriously I'm actually so fecked off with United at this stage, the club is in a shocking state! From top to bottom. This useless twat Ed Woodward needs the bullet, completely and utterly useless!

United we're supposed to be the club out of the blocks this summer, we we're told since January utd would be buying 3-5 players and it would be a busy summer... there is no feckin way we are getting that many players in now, not a hope in high heaven! Chelsea and Pool are doing their biz quickly and with little or no hassle while utd just waste time and give excuse after excuse.

Thank god for the world cup, I won't be given Utd a second thought until the final ball is kicked because they will only infuriate me more than I already am.

Calm down. Posts like this are shocking.

Oh yeah coz he is doing a top notch job ;)

We we're told we'd be making a huge effort, we've done £uck all! We we're told a player would be signed pre world cup, we've done nothing. We most definitely will not be signing players during the world cup! So it goes down to when LVG gets here, which will leave us with about 5-6 weeks approx to sign players... meaning a player a week.

Like I say...utter feckin disgrace! The man should be sacked!

This is what happens when a club that gives the manager control over transfers replaces their manager just before the summer starts. It's not an excuse, just logic.

What would you have preferred us to do? Keep Moyes? Force Moyes' targets on LVG, thus alienating the new guy before he's even taken over? Or radically change the structure of the club by appointing a DoF? Wouldn't be impressed with any of those choices myself.

I guess thats the pessimist in me. We are desperate this summer it is crucial that we do not fail in bringing in the players we need especially the CMs we have been looking for for the past 4 or 5 years.

From all appearances everything is at a stand still now, Honestly so far this is even worse than last summer and I can't see it improving before deadline day either, even if it is still a couple a months away. Small issue with something happening in Brazil...oh yeah, the fn world cup!

United seriously would want to get their act together because even LVG will not being getting much from that bunch next season... we need serious investment!

Nobody has a clue what's going on behind the scenes so it's far, far too early to be getting annoyed. If the window closes and we haven't strengthened then fair enough but that's a long way away.

Or if we're clearly after a player but fail to get him, that's fair enough too. No point in getting upset over players we may not have been after in the first place though.

Still, this kind of nervousness is what happens when the club spends six months promising an amazing transfer window, I guess. Expectations get distorted to the point where even a very good transfer window will seem disappointing to some unless we sign some megastars.

So it's hardly surprising people get worried after last summer. We've been "close" to several deals already (Kroos, Shaw, Cesc, Sanchez, Bastian, Miranda, Garay) but thus far haven't looked like signing any of them. People are still shell-shocked, the fans badly needed a lift at the start of this window. That has failed to materialise.

The extravagant promises of spending insane money always seemed like propaganda to me. If we sign a midfielder or two and Luke Shaw then I'll be happy.

Whether or not they're top names isn't that important to me. I have faith in our manager again which is much better than last season.

Unfortunately that's what a lot of people here kept saying last summer until the final minute. And we all know what happened.

Not saying it's gonna happen again this year, but people are allowed to freak when, on the day the WC starts, Fabregas signs and is pictured in a Chelsea shirt while we are dying for a midfielder and haven't signed shit.

Yep, we definitely need serious investment and if it doesn't happen then Woodward should face the chop for A) failing to secure targets and B) raising expectation to a ridiculous level beforehand.

It really is early yet though. I have serious doubts whether we'll be able to get all the necessary work done a this stage but some delay was inevitable once we had to change managers. It doesn't surprise me that we've failed to get deals done before the WC, much though I wanted it.

Still, if we're being optimistic, we may have the Shaw deal all but wrapped up already and might have been working on other deals on the qt. It'll become clear in the couple of weeks after the WC I think, lack of movement then really would signal a repeat of last summer. Best not to stress too much until then though.

A little competition known as the world cup is holding off transfer activity this summer, be patient things will start to happen in July.
