Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Quick question for you all: How many believe United have actually completed deals which will only take place post-World Cup?
Not with Woodward in charge. He will be dithering till August 31st

Pogba, Strootman, Sanchez, Shaw and a CB seems like an at least plausible set of targets that could make us competitive again.

Pogba seems very unlikely to me to be honest. He left us for more playing time and more money. Within months his agent was making noise about going to Spain. I just don't see him coming back and if he does it will be very shortlivedstay before Real make an offer neither we nor his agent can refuse.

We definitely need the 2 CM's, none of our current set should be starters next season. Any two from Vidal, Pogba, Koke, Strootman and maybe Schweinstieger would certainly be a huge advancement for the team.

I don't know who we should go for at CB, Mangla seems to have moved to the forefront but is he really that much more experienced and developed than Jones and Smalling? I personally feel we need a CB with more miles on the clock to add to the young CB's.

A lot of talk towards the end of last season was about the lack of pace in attack, Sanchez would be an incredible signing, outside of him though we haven't been linked with anyone that I'd want to see us cast Nani out for.

Pogba: No he is completley unavaible for us, what part of him still slatting us in public media (2 years after his move) calling his stay at us the worst time in his football career (because he felt unappreciated) and Juventus repeateadly saying they don't want to sell him and almost any other top club in the world being interested in him, got you so confussed ?

Who is a CB ? De Vrij ? , surely we can get him, but should we want him ? Hummels or Benatia ? No way in hell are we going to get them.

The other 3 are possible, but won't be easy, AS-Roma and Souton will be hard to negotiate with, but if we are willing to massively overspend we can get them. Sanchez, depends if the rumours about Barca wanting to sell him are true or not and if the player himself would be interest in joining us or not (I'am hopefull for Sanchez, but very cautious at the same time).

He came out and said he never said that and the daily mail made it up..

Ah ok, I missed that one, still he has criticised us many times before and he seemed more than happy enough to leave us, on top of that currently we aren't a step up from Juve so I think signing any of their players will be quite impossible for (also Vidal).

Whether he has said anything or not, I really don't like his attitude anyway! he's been sent off a couple of times for doing stupid things like spitting if I recall correctly! Seems to be very money driven too!

I think Pogba is more realistic than many others, certainly in his talent range.

A lot of the negative comments attributed to him are inaccurate.

He came here once before, I think if we could meet Juve's asking price and give him a tidy salary, he would come again.

His age and talent levels could certainly justify a bid of £50m in my opinion. It is 2014 - 50m is the new 30m - remember this.

Pogba - £60m (let's say)

Strootman - £28m has been quoted

Shaw - £27m

Sanchez - £30m (anything less seems unrealistic)

These four could be attained for less than £150m, which is very widely cited as our budget, and considering the mess we're in, it's very believable.

CB - Who knows? Hummels seems very unlikely and surely north of £40m absolute min.

Players sales can also contribute of course, though only a few of our players are worth even a penny in transfer fees.

Add Daley Blind and Martins Indi to that list and we are ready to go.

Surprised we haven't been linked more with Ross Barkley. Everton are a selling club he's young English and would excite the fans and improve our team.

Neither is good enough for United. Martins Indi is the most brainless footballer I have ever seen. Daley is at best a good squad player

No Barkley please. We'd be trying to fit square pegs in round holes all over again.

Not just a 10 to be fair he can play a few midfield roles. Would love seeing him at United.
Well this is the argument we had twelve months ago when we signed another overpriced Everton midfielder - picking someone who ''can'' play deeper over someone who plays that deep role week in week out . We should just steer clear and if it's young English talent we need then, for once, let's focus on those we have in our academy !

That's nonsense to say as a reason not to sign Barkley. Barkley is the most exciting English player since Rooney and that has worked superb for us.

Obviously we're not going to sign Barkley. For a start his best position is currently no 10, literally the last position we need to strengthen. Second, even as a cm he'd hardly be the defensive or box to box type everyone keeps saying LVG is after. Third, he'd be insanely expensive. At that price we should surely be able to get a proper cm we know does the job we need, rather than trying to force Barkley into a role he isn't ready for yet.

Top talent and someone we should go for in the future but right now? Would really make no sense.

Wouldn't take Barkley. Too expensive, you could sign an equally talented Brazilian or Spaniard for half the price.

I'm more than slightly bored, so I'll play:

Vidal - ~ £50m transfer fee, wages £200-250k p/w (don't think Pogba will be a goer whatever we offer given the interest from elsewhere, but we know that LvG at least knows of Vidal's existence, so the problem would be getting Vidal to come to us - for that the only answer we have is high wages)

Shaw - £27m, wages ~ £100k p/w

Sanchez - ~ £30m, wages £150-200k p/w

Schweinsteiger (if he actually is available, which I have doubts about) - ~£25m, wages £150-£200k p/w

Centre-back (not sure of specific names here, but we need one to replace Vidic given our current three can't stay fit and Michael Keane can replace Rio's games) - budget ~£30m, wages £100-150k p/w

Add another £40m max to pay for signing-on fees and agent fees, then we're looking at:

~ £202m total gross (£162m transfer fees, paid in instalments as usual but lets keep it simple here) with ~ £900k p/w added to the wage bill gross (obviously Rio, Vidic, Giggs and whichever players we manage to sell will impact the net wage change).

Strootman should wait until January owing to his injury, so the package to bring him in can come out of the next transfer budget rather than the one we're working from this window.

How's that for muppetry? Anyone got Woodward's email?

I'm fine with that except for Shaw's wages. No 19 year old deserves 100k a week, and it sets a bad pattern for the club. If a new young player gets that much, other players in our squad will want to get raises 100%.

Also, we're going to have to give the lad an extension in the future with a raised wage. We'll be talking Rooney style wages soon if we start high.

And if Shaw fails here, no one will want to pay 100k for him so we wouldn't be able to sell.

50k a week max for him.

Ross Barkley seems like more of a CAM or AM to me... which is a position we are well stocked in (Kagawa,Mata)
IMO we need actual CM's or a DM and a CM. I think the 40M that would be used for Barkley could be much better spent.

Hypothetically, if we got Pogba this summer, would he count as a homegrown player? He was with us from 15/16-19 after all.

Yep.
A Home Grown player will be defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).
Not that we've a need for more home grown players.

He'd cost a bomb and not even solve the problems we have actually. We'l need to mould him into a CM, I'd rather we simply paid and got one.

I quite agree (though my "max wage" for him might be a little higher) but those were the crazy figures rumoured after we last played Southampton, so I just listed that to my bullshit fantasy shopping list (at least it's not as bad as the Goal.com wage invention  :nervous:).

Pogba/Koke/Kroos and Schweinsteiger instead of them and then you spent that money better.

None of those players i see moving.

Pogba will go to a sugar daddy club.
Koke by whatt people are saying,if there is the mass exodus people are anticipating at Athletico, prob Barca.
Kroos and Schweinsteiger will stay at Bayern.

Im not disagreeing with you,but id not have Pogba back for the money of the quote, and the other id snap your hand off, dont see it happening though unfortunately.

i havnt a clue wholl come in,but the 3 id named with Carrick,Fellaini<:(>,Juan,Fletch and Shingi would be a title challenging midfield panel.
