Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

So much for all the paper bullshit all year long about us getting ready to spend 200M.

Anyone who thought we would spend 200m is an idiot, the glazers won't sanction anywhere near that. They never have and never will.

I reckon that Van Gaal has given Woody his list of targets and then gone off to manage Holland, safe in the knowledge that Ed is handling things.

Louis is gonna go apeshit if he gets back from the World Cup and Ed has signed none of them!

No he won't ,he'll just get on with what he's got.

After the World Cup is going to crazy but we will end up disappointed, I've no doubt were make transfers. But a big/marquee one, I very much doubt.
I can see us being left even further behind. LVG will need a miracle with this squad.

We have had one fecking bad season since 88/89. Get a fecking grip. We might be in for a few notsogood seasons but ffs we have had so many years of glory. United forever and ever

I can understand us not wanting the likes of Fabregas and Kroos simply because of what Van Gaal will expect from his players. I hate that we are potentially passing up the opportunity of two great CM players, but if they don't fit what he wants, then there is no point going for them.

I think they way he will set up is how Brazil will play. Going forward, the most important players are going to to be the front 3. Neymar, Fred and Hulk.
Behind them are some hard working, nothing fancy midfielders in Fernandinho and Paulino. Looks a very 'boring' midfield compared to what you expect from a Brazil side, but all the all the flair and excitement are in the front 3.

People who fit the role: Vidal, Koke, Bastian and Strootman (All of which have been linked with us). These are the very best of the best in that position. (Apart from Toure).
The question is, can we can any of these? Passed this point, who can we go for?

I don't really rate many of the young Dutch players from what I have seen. Depay has some signs of potential, but I am not to excited by the rest.
I think wingers will be interesting though. Nani could fit the role Van Gaal wants, so that could be an interesting option. Young and Valencia are just not good enough for me. Januzaj is fine, not overly quick, but very good with the ball at his feet, so I'd like to see a winger come in. Reus is the obvious one, but Sanchez is the more realistic one if he is really available

Two of these is absolutely what we need. Not one but two.

In my opinion, the realistic pair would be Strootman and Vidal.

Bastian: I just can't see this guy leaving Bayern, He's them through and through
Koke: I can't see him in anything but a Barca or Real shirt

Vidal: Has no ties to the club. Juve that far ahead of the pack, they could sell Vidal, and still be ahead. Pogba takes over the reigns and they start to bring through another up and coming star, while getting big money.
Strootman: Roma are not the biggest club, and money talks to them

Yeah, Sertić, heard about him that he's very good. He was born in France but is Croatian and will probably play for us after WC.

Someone is making you a joke, Sertic is...
I don't want to be rude so i don't have any word to describe him, but his club, Bordeaux, is shit, but like really.
But he is good at free kicks.

I'd like to believe this, but Vidal is so top of the pile I can't see beyond him going to Real or Barca.

I do agree to that. I just mean for having a potential chance. I don't expect us to actually sign him.
If Real did come in for him, He'd go there, I have no doubt. The only positive is that it means they would have to get rid of one of their many midfielders.
I'd love to get Modric here. Not renowned for his defensive talent, but he works hard when I've seen him

Vidal and Strootman would be exactly what is needed. Add in Shaw, a CB and a winger (Sanchez would be great) and we'd be competitive again.

We're effing miles off and I would not be surprised to see us fall further back from the pack. We have to become stronger in the transfer market.

I agree. In the market we have been poor.
I know people will say, but the window hasn't opened yet, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be pushing deals through.

Chelsea, if reports are true are on the verge of Costa, Cesc and Felipe luis.
Liverpool, signed Lambert, Can and Moreno look close, and they are still trying for Lallana

We are the team that need work, and we can't decide if we want A, B or C anymore.

As for a team. Without signings, I still think we'd finish top 4 with the right tactics. Moyes brought a tactic that was to not lose. With Van Gaal, we will have a tactic which is to win. Our players are to win. We wasn't Stoke or QPR etc.
It would be tough, but I'd still have confidence in our team, but if we want to challenge, we need 5 players in my opinion

1CB, 1LB, 2CM, 1W

Just wrote what I heard, never seen him in action. :)

I understood that, and i don't want you to be disappointed, Sertic is an average player at best, in ligue 1 which is not a good league. ;)

It's going to be mental when the world cup is finished, it'll be interesting to see how quickly deals happen if they take weeks then I guess it's panic time.

@Wibble Why do you even bother with those? :wenger: Genuinely curious. Laporte would be a great signing.

I have to view this stuff every day for the Caf Facebook page. If I have to suffer so do you ;)

Oddly the sillier the rumor the more active the Facebook page is. The really silly Suarez to United post the other day got nearly 5 times the hits of actually possible transfer rumours. Which is why the tabloids thrive I guess.

Real are linked with suarez and have been talking to kroos,s agent apparently, so Vidal as well ??? Mmmmm I'm not sure about that with modric already there . Maybe Barcelona are in pole for Vidal after selling cesc but I think koke will be cescs replacement . We may have a chance if we offer 50mill .

Why don't we just go back for ander herera? He seemed eager to come last time around and he's a quality player. Let's just get something going please.

We very well might, but who knows what targets we are going for - is it because they are at the WC? Have other teams gone in for them? Is the lack of UCL football really affecting the type of player we would usually go for?

I think the last one is a given, people here thought missing out for a season wouldnt affect us much well you were wrong. at the end of the day players elect to go to City so i dont think its just a Manchester thing.

Not even twitter and other random tabloids are even bothering to link us with any other players. :( I hope we at least try to sign Ander Herrera, he would be perfect for van Gaal in a box to box role in a midfield 3.

This Woodward blame is insane. Last year Moyes wanted Fabregas - Fabregas rejected us. Moyes wanted Fellaini - we got him. Woodward obviously wasn't reluctant to spend some serious money. We could maybe have got Thiago - all reports suggest Moyes wasn't interested. Strootman? Same.

Now: van Gaal has obviously sounded out his personal preferences. Amongst these it seems Fabregas is not included - what's Woodward to do? Bid for him anyway?

Woodward doesn't pick the players, the manager does.

The real problem goes back to July last year when David Moyes took over the club and decided to systematically dick it up.

I reckon if we buy a "big name" player it will be Cavani - that will be the "Woody signing", designed to keep the casual fan happy and the season tickets / merchandise flowing Apart from that it will be Shaw and some lower profile "Van Gaal targets" probably up and coming Dutch players.

I can't see LVG approving that. It would be insane to spend all that money on a striker.

These days the manager doesn't get total say on transfers, at least not at most clubs where commercial success is also key. Some decisions, like buying Cavani or keeping Rooney at whatever cost, are commercial decisions.

Us missing out on CL is effecting our ability to get our targets? Where did you get this inside info from? Are you the agent of the player in question or just some random poster with an opinion, someone who thinks others with a differing opinion are wrong without anything to back that theory.

Since when has Cavani been a cash cow commercially?
If LvG doesn't want him, I doubt we will be in for him whether Woody wants a big name signing for himself or not. He would gain more credit for signing Fabregas imo.

The bids we made were ridiculous, especially the baines/Fellaini joint bid. That was down to Woodward, not Moyes.
