Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Why is their such a decline in quality from a A targets to our B targets? It goes from world class to average dross, there seems to be no middle ground.

Nobody knows our targets, no-one on twitter, knob ed journos, you, or I. Be patient and we will see what happens.

Well we went from chasing Lucas and Hazard some of Europe's most courted young talents to Wilfried fecking Zaha.

Fergie and Gill had nothing whatsoever to do with Mata's transfer. The two "intermediaries" were Mata's father and his English solicitor. No United personnel of any description had any direct dealings with Chelsea.

That's one line we were fed but some journos said that Gill and Fergie did work on the deal. We all saw the clips of them meeting with Abramovich and Chelseas people to apparently discuss the deal.

Daily Express is only a few "major news coming at 3pm #MUFC" tweets away from being as bad as IndyKaila

Potential to be one of the best midfielders of his generation easily worth over 30M he'll go for 45M+
OK maybe not worth half was a bit much, but £60m ! we all know that if a price is mentioned the said price always rises.
I am not sure about him, they way he went left a sour taste in my mouth about him.
Also potential, does not always mean a world class player, not sure I would want us to spunk £60m on just potential.

Maybe we can negotiate with Juve and bring the price down or maybe send Hernandez the other way?

It was sad to see such a talent leave us, would solve a lot of our midfield problems if we can bring him back.

They have enough strikers over there, wouldn't they want something else.

His not just potential anymore, his maturing as a player (although not his attitude) at a rapid rate his a starter for Juventus and the french national side.

Sorry I just cant get excited about a player who left because he could not get a game, that may or may not of been down to SAF, but if he wanted to play for us he would of stayed a waited for him time.
I am possibly in the minority in my thinking but there you go.

No we didn't, we saw a photo of Fergie and Gill with Abramovich at the Stamford Bridge game. Some people then added two and two and got 15.

I repeat - there was absolutely no direct contact between any Man Utd personnel whatsoever and Chelsea. Everything from the Man Utd side was done in writing.

He doesn't constantly slag the club, the media does by constantly twisting and faking words out of his mouth. He is a little arrogant and is driven by his agent but if he does sign back for us, it will probably be one of the best signings in a long long time. None of this will happen though.

It would kinda annoy me, having someone who constantly slags the club off back.
I wouldn't be annoyed at all, he would improve our midfield immeasurably and what he has said in the past was aimed at club staff who he felt didn't show him respect by making him train on his own.

Also if we are happy to spunk 27 million on Fellaini 60 for Pogba is a great price.

We'd be the laughing stock of Europe if we buy Pogba back for £60M. I don't even rate him.

60m is a bargain for a talent such as Pogba. Sign him up! He's the complete midfielder, a rarity these days. Pogba had the right to voice his dissatisfaction, even if it was Scholes Sir Alex brought back a 38 year old back from retirement instead of giving him a shot. He even started players out of position in central midfield instead of Pogba.

While we're talking about Giggs and that article about him having a role to retain young players from leaving, I wish we could have got David Beckham or Cantona as sporting director. :(

To be fair to Woodward, he apparently had Kroos and Shaw almost done. Van Gaal didn't want Kroos and Southamton have had their own problems. Woodward now probably has to work on new targets (such as Hummels and Muller). As he is new to this it might take him longer. Gill would have known more, known more people and dealt with these teams in some form before. Every club is looking to squeeze everything they can out of us. Woodward and the club are in a unique position. Since when has one of the biggest teams in the world been in such a vulnerable position? We have already seen Fabregas play us about last season. The players and agents are at it as well.

Would you rather he over pays for every player in terms of transfer fees, agent fees and wages? That would hinder us long term and every time Woodward tries to do a deal the same thing will happen. Same applies for selling players. We haven't got enough for our players in the recent past IMO, however, if we do sell anyone, I guarantee Woodward will be under scrutiny for selling them 'too cheap' or whatever. Woodward did not pay £15 Million for Zaha, offer Nani & Anderson new contracts and offer Young around 100k a week, lets remember that.

We have no idea what is going on. Yes, we had a bad window last season, but we still have time to get deals done this window. The owners aren't stupid, they'll understand if Woodward is doing his job properly or not.

Looks like the Pogba story might have some truth to it - maybe. Daniel Taylor from The Guardian is reporting it as well.

Manchester United have been quoted £60m if they want to persevere with plans to bring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford two years after his acrimonious departure on a free transfer.

The Observer can reveal that United are not only targeting Kevin Strootman from Roma but have made repeated attempts over the past year to explore whether Juventus would sell them the midfielder at a huge profit. Mino Raiola, the player’s agent, said this week that Pogba was happy in Turin but United’s information is that the France international is open to the idea.

60 million is a crazy price. He's not even a winner level like Messi or Ronaldo. We could get 2 or 3 quality centre midfield with that money.

If we are really willing to spend 60 mil on a midfielder, then why on a Raiola client and not on Vidal/Koke? We should try everything to get one of them for that money, not Pogba who probably even before signing for us would announce on his way to Manchester that sooner rather than later he wants to play for PSG/RM!

I'd be happy with Ander Iturasspe and Ander Herrera as the midfield signings.

If we're taking a Juve midfielder for crazy money, it should be Vidal.

I'd be happy to have Pogba back, even if it would be a bit embarrassing considering what went on a few years ago. He's already a very good player, with the potential to become fantastic, and he's the type of player we could do with in midfield so I'd be all for the return of the Pog.

In saying that, £60 million is a very steep figure here. As I've said, Pogba has incredible potential but he's still young and, as others have mentioned, there's no guarantees that he'll fulfil it. With £60 million, we could probably buy two well established finished articles for our midfield and, at a time when we really need to catch up with all the teams that finished ahead of us last season, perhaps that would be a wiser, as well as a more likely, route for the club to take this summer in terms of transfer business.

No we couldn't.

£45m would be a fair price for Pog, looking at the market.

£60m for Vidal would be fair.

Pogba coming back would be immense. Looks actually more realistic than most other top CMs.
