Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

I'm not panicking at all, yet, but it does make the decision to delay the LvG announcement so long, strange. We were told the reason we wanted Moyes out was to give the new guy time to pick his targets and a clear run at the window. Yet we announced him merely days before his attention would turn entirely to the World Cup. It's just my own theory but I personally believe the delay was our insistence on trying to 'sell him' on the Co92 retention on the staff idea.

Didn't you see the interview LVG gave the day he was announced? He said that the schedule for the announcement and negotiations were completely set by LVG himself. He decided when the meetings took place. He decided whe the announcement should be made. He doesn't have an agent, only a legal friend to help him with some parts of the process.

That's the only reason why it took so long. Thought this was put to bed a long time ago.

I'd be surprised if we had any info at all on the majority of Van Gaal's targets - they only became targets when he was appointed. Added to that, there was no database of potential targets under Fergie's regime. Nothing was put in writing and the scouts reported directly to Fergie or his brother Martin.

I think we'll just be taking Van Gaal's word on most of the targets.

Even if that were true, then how is waiting till the WC ends so that we can judge them during that competition helps.

He didn't give an interview the day he was announced, did he? Only that one in Dutch and I wasn't aware he said anything like that.

It doesn't help, I didn't say it did. I was just pointing out that for various reasons we won't have much, if any, real info on Van Gaal's targets and we'll just have to trust his judgment.

I thought it was LVG and the dutch FA regarding the announcement. Oh well. Doesnt really matter. Trying to blame woody for that is OTT

I have to admit I did burst out laughing when I read that first sentence.

Seriously though, the nothingness that is happening is beginning to grate.

Rather that than telling the fan base how the phone won't stop ringing, because all the agents of top players are calling, while nothing is actually happening in that regard.

So Rakitic to Barca and Fabregas to Chelsea? :(
What's coming next week? Kroos signing new contract, Vidal to Real and Strootman to Liverpool and yeah maybe Koke to Barca too, just for the sake of it. Like always said, it will be again a tough summer for us. We are not as attractive as some people think and some comments about getting Reus or Hummels, if we just throw money at them, were far away from reality. I hope we get some deals done soon after the World Cup, I don't think anything will happen before. If we get for example Carvalho and Shaw or Strootman, even if he is just arriving here in January, I would be very happy.

I'm sure we'll do better than that

I hope so, but especially in the CM area I don't know exactly, which one we should sign. Most top players aren't available or don't want to go to United. I hate all the rumours at the moment, first anyone is signing for United and now no play want to be a United player. I just read something about Sanchez from Barca to Juventus :wenger:

Agreed personal terms with them is the rumour but Barca won't accept their 18million euro bid has been doing the rounds today but it was also doing the rounds a month ago.

Sanchez to Juve? :(
Yup, but rumour is Barca want more money and are hoping that a good world cup for him will drive his price to 30mil+. The other side of the coin is Juve are willing to sell Vidal this year to fund their transfer plans.

Interesting, I would have thought his fellow Chilean coming in would make Vidal want to stay. They'd both be a huge boost to us.

Exactly! We should be all over Vidal. If we could just sign him this window, things would instantly improve!

He may want to stay but Juve may want to sell. They have another 2 young prospects coming through and next year they reckon they can get a bidding war going for Pogba. Remember though it's all rumour and conjecture.

I'm not a default pessimist, but my gut feeling is that we will have another shocking window. It will inevitably see us continue to be a bit rubbish next season, and we probably won't make the top 4 again.

As much as I wanted Dave out come the end of his reign, I concede that I did have a confidence that he had put in extensive plans to get real quality players in during this window. The management change seems to have thrown plenty of uncertainty, and the impression that we are now starting from scratch to some degree.

The Kroos/Cesc ships seem to have sailed, the Carvalho train appears aborted while the Koke/Vidal dreams seem, well, dreams. Other names like Reus and Hummels also appear far fetched, and the bunch of Dutch players now touted do not seem of the same quality.

I'm not sure in the direction we are headed right now. It seems the people deciding don't have a clue either, especially if Ed's obsessive chase of Edinson Cavani has any truth to it. We also fecked ourselves in January by offering huge deals to both Mata and Rooney. The Scouser should have been sold in my view.

We also need to see a few departures, although that side appears quiet too right now. Not a whole load to instill great confidence as of yet, except the manager is likely not clueless. We were expected, and frankly needed, to be the biggest movers this summer, and while there is obviously still time, on the eve of the World Cup, we don't get the impression that any significant progress is underway.

I'm sure the usual optimists will counter everything above with the hypothesis of 'how do you know we haven't concluded deals for Ronaldo and LeBron James already?'. Of course, I cannot prove we have not, but there is no indication at all that we have done anything either. Based on what we can see, we have done nothing, apart from probably make a certain deal for Luke Shaw appear to have become uncertain all of a sudden.

Don't worry there's always Depay, Ribeiro and Schwienstieger (f thats how it's spelt)

I reckon Ribeiro was just his agent linking him with us personally. No teams have made a firm move for him, yet half the PL were apparently chasing.

As for Depay, he'll be linked and discussed for weeks, until someone who actually wantd to sign him comes in and, well, signs him. Probably in about 2 or 3 days too.

I am hopeful on Bastian right now, and would see him and Strootman as great business, better than any pair involving either Kroos or Cesc, although admittedly not my personal first choice.

I agree with you Rozay, I just don't have a good feeling, I can see us ending up with the likes f Fellaini, Cleverley and Young still eating up game time next season as no one seems interested in buying any of our players apart from Hernandez.

Problem is, the WC starts next Thursday and doesn't finish until 13th July. As far as we're concerned that's just dead time. If we don't get any deals done before it starts - and there currently doesn't seem to be any sign of that happening - we're now talking about the end of July/beginning of August at the earliest before we can get anyone in.

The situation as it stands doesn't instil me with any great confidence that Woodward can do the business.

Just listening to Ian Herbert and David McDonnell discuss on United in press on MUTV, you can just tell that they don't have a clue whats really going on and who the targets are. Using words like 'perhaps' and 'maybe' tells you everything about what actual knowledge and supposed information they have, doesn't take a trained journalist to work out that given the chance the club would sign certain players if they were available.

I reckon that Van Gaal has given Woody his list of targets and then gone off to manage Holland, safe in the knowledge that Ed is handling things.

Louis is gonna go apeshit if he gets back from the World Cup and Ed has signed none of them!

Probably woodward will put a smiley face onto the "list" and give it back to van gaal.

her before we signed them. They turned out to be good and/or will only become better.

Parejo, L. Bender, Gonalons, Blind, Ander Herrera, Strootman, Saul Niguez, Fofana, Sertic, Geis, Kramer, McCarthy, Schneiderlin and Jorginho could all be players to improve our midfield options, whether they are good enough or actually want to come is a different matter. I'm sure there are more players I haven't heard of or seen that can make a difference for us.

Yeah, Sertić, heard about him that he's very good. He was born in France but is Croatian and will probably play for us after WC.
