Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Amazing to think that had Fergie not retired by all accounts we'd of signed Thiago last summer and had Moyes not been sacked we may of got Kroos and Fabregas this

What's going to happen next? LVG is sacked before he can bring home Ronaldo? :(

All the players that are on "The List" are dutch or from around that baltic sea area, are journo's just adding 1+1 and because LvG is dutch he will only go for said players ?

I am a little worried so far that we have signed zero players, seeing our rivals sign players especially chelsea with Costa and what looks to be like Fabregas who I was really wanting us to sign i just worry why we haven't secured any players signatures yet, with now the world cup in 1 week there wont be any now until when it finishes.

Could you imagine another summer of no real big signings considering how much has been said about it :nervous:

I repeat my post from earlier in the day.

I have a sneaking suspicion we've signed them all already and will be doing a big extreme makeover home edition reveal at Van Gaals first press conference, altogether now DRIVER! MOVE THAT BUS!

I'm not panicking at all, yet, but it does make the decision to delay the LvG announcement so long, strange. We were told the reason we wanted Moyes out was to give the new guy time to pick his targets and a clear run at the window. Yet we announced him merely days before his attention would turn entirely to the World Cup. It's just my own theory but I personally believe the delay was our insistence on trying to 'sell him' on the Co92 retention on the staff idea.

You could be right about the class of 92, I just have the impression that we dither a hell of a lot, even when Gill and SAF were in play, Hazard springs to mind.
I personally think Eds job depends on us having a successful transfer window - surely all these potential sponsors out there will be paying close attention. I'm guessing like most they are only seeing last season as blip so we must make a statement and sign some proven quality.
If the Cesc to Chelsea rumor is true and they get Costa that is an already better team than ours improving greatly. Even Liverpool although their signings are not top drawer are strengthening early on and will surely be in the fight for the league again if they keep hold of Suarez.
LVGs full attention at the World Cup is obvious and expected so to rely on Woodward after last years shambles is I guess why most of us fans are a little worried. I'm not buying into the 'window is not even open yet' theory as deals can be agreed now and signed July 1st. If we had deals in place what difference would it make to announce them now? So for me the lack of any news means we have no one agreed as yet which is frustrating considering all the noise Woodward was saying about getting all our deals done early. Still a very long way to go and all these journalists know linking every player to us sells papers, so I'm expecting a hell of a lot more bullshit to come.

We're going to really struggle this window it seems. Too many clubs with big money to spend and coming from positions of strength.

I hope LvG is more flexible about targets than is suggested. Unless these are players we will face little competition for, some needs to tell him United rarely deliver their biggest targets.

Its annoying me that the scousers and Chelsea are able to strengthen their squads before the WC while we're not. With Cesc, Costa and possibly Fillpe Luis Chelsea could actually be done with their transfers for the summer! I understand that LvG needs time to have a look at the squad im just concerned that we could end up with another summer fiasco like last year but we absolutely positively cannot afford it or we could potentially say good bye to CL football for yet another season.

Who knows, maybe we already have 2 or 3 deals waiting to be announced after WC or after team of that and that player drops out of WC.

Or I'm just hoping. :)

It's not entirely bad. We are probably holding talks with several of our transfer targets and I am almost certain that at least half of them are ready to move, but haven yet to put pen on paper. Which is a smart strategy if you think about it, provided that's what's going on.

If you have several players that are already willing to sign, it's a bad move to sign them before the WC. Let them play in the WC, watch them, watch how they handle the pressure, watch how they play and if they perform well on that stage - then you sign them. Signing before the WC also has the downside of a player getting a serious injury. Say we sign Kroos, but he suffers a serious blow in Brazil and is out until mid winter. That's money to the wind and even after he returns - there's no guarantee he'll be up to the form he was before. That's why you hold talks with them, you convince them to sign, but you seal the deal after the WC - when you're certain they're not injured and are in form.

I have a feeling based on my bladder and the way the tea leafs ended up in my coffee, that we'll have some good news tonight.

Don't see what the indication is that something's gonna happen tonight of all nights. But I'll trust your coffee, I'm hopeful like that.

And I love coffee.

It was an Italian blend.

Could be possible.

Charles Sale said in Daily Mail column that Woodward hosted the McR press pack to a dinner recently. Won't be surprised if we started briefing things.

If we were to sign Daley Blind where would he play? On the midfield or he would fight for the left back position with Shaw maybe? I think he is going to be a great player based on a few internation matches and youtube videos.

Ive got to say that im slightly worried that this summer is going to be too similar to last years debacle. With the World Cup coming up and no deals being struck is not a big problem in my opinion, as the other teams are not making significant acquisitions, bar Chelsea's costa deal.
However, what I'm baffled by is the club/Van Gaal going cool on Kroos and Fabregas. Yes, a manager should make his own decisions on who to sign for his system, but those two are the best that is possibly available. It's been evident for far too long that midfield is a massive let down for us, so who could we possibly sign that will make us a potential force next season?
Although Van Gaal coming in for Moyes is 1000 times better than signing Kroos etc, I'm really anxious about who we can realistically get?
Anyone got a clue? Cause I haven't

Club, LVG going cool on Kroos, Fabregas or whatever players isnt anything official, its all speculation, I wouldnt be surprised its just journos making things up.

I share the same feelings. I'm more baffled about the fact that LVG publicly ditched Kroos (a player who worked under his orders) rather than pulling him towards us through the existing connection between both men considering our current needs because of how both Fergie and Moyes have been extremely negligent about midfield. I just can't understand what the manager is thinking on that one when some of the best are available; LVG pulled a good chunk of his Ajax squad to Barcelona back in the days as well.

Without strong quality in midfield, it will be very difficult to mount a serious challenge to the top. Anyway, we all know that the best teams in the world have strong midfield units to begin with. So I'm not saying anything new regarding the topic.

But did LVG officially ditched Kroos or it was just a speculation?

If LVG didn't ditch Kroos, he would have used any trick in the book to lure a guy in or at the very least unsettle the player at his current club even further. Mourinho, incidentally one of LVG's most brilliant pupils, is a master at doing that.

Almost certainly as our holding midfielder, but it would also depend on the system. As he's demonstrated with Holland, he can also do very well as a wingback.

That is a shambolic way of doing transfers. I hope our scouts have done a better job. If we are looking to sign players, we must have done an extensive research on how they perform even under pressure. 'cause hoping to base our purchases on the WC performances is naive at best.

Signing players who've performed at major international tournaments is risky too. Arshavin springs to mind.

I'd be surprised if we had any info at all on the majority of Van Gaal's targets - they only became targets when he was appointed. Added to that, there was no database of potential targets under Fergie's regime. Nothing was put in writing and the scouts reported directly to Fergie or his brother Martin.

I think we'll just be taking Van Gaal's word on most of the targets.

I wouldn't mind if LvG ditched Kroos. To me it would indicate that he's not going after targets that don't fit into his plans, no matter if he has or had bonds with them. Moyes on the other hand seemed focused on bringing in his own ex-players no matter if they seemed to fit or not.
Maybe Kroos hasn't been ditched though. Maybe LvG just doesn't want to throw cash around when we might have a silent agreement with Kroos for 2015, when his contract runs down. I'd like to see him come on a free and do to Bayern what they have done to Dortmund with Lewandowski. That way Kroos would still play CL this season and would join us in time for our next CL campaign. Maybe...

I think nobody knows what is LVG doing right now, other than preparing for the WC. :)
