Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Correct, in hindsight the players he brought through are indeed fantastic young players. but my point stands that LvG hasn't got the "record" of signing players. His first stint at Barca he pretty much bought most of the Dutch team over, such as Bogarde, Cocu, De Boer brothers, Zenden and Kluivert. Of course they are good players (at that time), but he doesn't have much of a transfer record despite being at clubs that can attract star players should he desire.

Also, please do note take what I'm saying as a negative thing. I personally do not mind seeing the a "Class of 2013" with the likes of Junazaj, Wilson, Lawrence, Pearson, Rothwell, Janko, Lingard, and Keane brothers.
He's a manager who makes players stars and not the other way around, and i think that's the beauty of his genius. We don't need to sign the names that are being mentioned in the tabloids on a daily basis to become a force again in the league. I'm sure we will sign sign players but they will be the right players and i have every confidence in LVG.

Much as I dislike the Glazers, they did allow Moyes to spend £64m on Fellaini and Mata last summer. And sanction a £60M/year contract for Rooney. That's a tremendous amount of money.

The club spent around £60M in 12/13 on the likes of Kagawa, Van Persie, Zaha, Powell and Buttner. And the year before that we spent around £52M on De Gea, Jones and Young.

While our transfer spending has been prudent, you can't accuse the Glazers of being close-fisted.

On a personal note, I really think we should move Rooney on - he has gotten to the point where he becomes bigger than the club, something that Sir Alex would never allow to happen, and his salary will have a knock on effect on the rest of the team and any eventual signings.

If anything, Van Gaal would be a muppet's worst nightmare. Aside to bringing through young players, his transfer records at Barcelona and Bayern mostly ends in a positive balance for the club:

I get the feeling that this was one of the factors considered by Woodward in his managerial search.

Did he buy and sell Hummels in the same season?

Did he buy and sell Hummels in the same season?

I think it means promoted and sold in the same season.

I agree that the data is slightly odd though, Hummels made his league debut for Bayern in the last match of the 07/08 season.

I haven't really been keeping up to speed with the forum or any United news today. Any new news today or just the usual goss going around just now?

City are the absolute worst example you can come up with. They are financed by oil money and do not care much for sustainability.

The fact is that before the Chelski and Man Citeh being financed by sugar daddies, our club is THE biggest spending club. There is rarely another club that can gazump us to the top players that we are after, the only exception being that the players themselves choose to join another club over personal reasons, such as Alan Shearer. Otherwise our club has routinely broken transfer records when there is a player that we really want.

The only difference between then and now is that we no longer hold the power in negotiations like we used to. In the past, we can play hard ball. The agents and selling clubs have pretty much no choice but to play by our rules - if we aren't willing to stump up the outrageous agent fees and signing fees there isn't much other clubs they can flog their players to. Nowadays, the agents can get their clients fat contracts and bumper fees at Man Citeh, Chelski or even PSG. If the players are considered the amongst the world best, the prospective clubs expand to include Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The only way we sign good, in-demand players till recently is that the players really want to play for Man Utd. Van Persie for example, he choose Man Utd because he believed he would win trophies under Sir Alex. Kagawa pretty much said the same thing. The likes of Jones also grew up in the era where we dominated, and the allure of being coached by Sir Alex was also a big factor for him.

So clearly this will have to change. If we are to get the best players in the current transfer market then we will have to pay similar to what the oil clubs are paying.

It seems that there will be a LOT of money in circulation this summer. Many clubs are seemingly looking to splash.

We simply need to spend big and we can realistically get anyone. That means if Reus is worth £45m we need to offer £60m+.

Time is marching on and no new signings- rent boys are now in for Shaw so what are the odds we get
Done over again.

Really think we should make a move or two now prior to the WC- I really can't stomach another last
Minute inflated panic buy like the last summer window.

For me Reus Shaw Javi Martinez and a powerful CM like Carvalho or KHedira should be targeted.

The way it is going we will end up with inflated deal for Strootman who is out injured till the new year and a few unknowns.

The club needs a lift and an injection of pace I hope LVG can give us this.

Is Live MUFC reliable ?

Cheers !

Anderson's future at Old Trafford to be decided by new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal

Mark Ogden

Louis van Gaal could be forced to resolve the future of Manchester United outcast Anderson with the midfielder failing to earn a permanent transfer to Fiorentina following an unproductive loan spell in Italy.

Having done little to impress during his six months in Serie A, United are now considering whether to hand Anderson the opportunity of a new start under Van Gaal or cut their losses on a player who cost £26 million from FC Porto in May 2007. Anderson, whose Old Trafford contract expires in June 2015, is expected back at United for pre-season training at the beginning of July after making just eight appearances for Fiorentina during of his January loan spell.

United had hoped to sell him to the Italian outfit following his failure to justify the transfer fee sanctioned by Sir Alex Ferguson to complete the Brazilian’s move seven years ago.

But with La Viola securing Europa League qualification with a fourth-placed Serie A finish largely without the contribution of the 26-year-old, United are now understood to be focusing on other options with the player. Anderson’s future is one of the issues to be discussed by recently-appointed manager Van Gaal and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

Having been billed as “better than Wayne Rooney” by Martin Ferguson, United’s European scout, prior to his move to Old Trafford, Anderson started just 127 games in six years before being farmed out to Fiorentina former manager David Moyes in January.

Due to persistent concerns over his fitness, Anderson was quickly discarded by Moyes after failing to complete a full 90 minutes during his eight appearances under the Scot.

Porto are interested in re-signing Anderson, but his £60,000-a-week wages would prevent a return to the Estadio do Dragao unless United are prepared to subsidise a transfer to move the player on.

United are preparing for an overhaul of their squad this summer, with plans for incomings and outgoings already in place prior to Van Gaal’s appointment as Moyes’s successor earlier this month.

But while Van Gaal has refined the list of targets, choosing to end the club’s pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos and Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas, the fate of several players at Old Trafford has yet to be decided.

Wilfried Zaha, who spent the final six months of last season on loan at Cardiff, is likely to travel on the pre-season tour of the United States, but the 21-year-old is another who could be sold this summer.

Nani, Tom Cleverley and Javier Hernández are the subject of interest from elsewhere, while Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini may also prove expendable should offers be made from rival clubs.

With United expected to complete a £27million move for Southampton’s England left-back Luke Shaw after the World Cup, efforts are now set to focus on recruiting Van Gaal’s desired targets, which include Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels and Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman.

Van Gaal has left Woodward in control of United’s transfer dealings due to his commitments with Holland at the World Cup.

Former United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy insists that his fellow Dutchman is the perfect appointment following the club’s slide under Moyes.

“I think he’s the right man at the right place, from United’s point of view,” Van Nistelrooy said. “The club needs guidance from a strong man with a strong vision. That’s Van Gaal. That’s what the club needs.”

Seems to be a short list of targets.

If they're our only targets I can see us ending up disappointed as I highly doubt Hummels will be going anywhere & with Strootman's injury that might not exactly be a viable move till January, + we'd still need more than just him anyway.

I hope we don't bother trying to kick-start Anderson again, he's had about 5 seasons of chances now. Just get rid.

Maybe Van Gaal wants to take a look at our current midfield with Strootman coming in January if (when) they fail

But he shits on Fabregas! (I told you this obsessive overrating of Brazilians would end badly 4 years ago).
I never rated him personally, he had a handful of decent performances per season, a typical lazy Brazilian. His injury record is beyond a joke

He's crazy if he thinks he can make it work. Can't risk not being in CL for another year, it will really hurt the club.

This is just the same bunch of names the media have been rolling out for ages. All Woodward can say, in the absence of Van Gaal, is what the score was under Moyes. Its become clearer everyday that nobody actually knows who Van Gaal wants to sign, who he wants to keep and who he wants to get rid of. Van Gaal may have had some chats with Woodward and Giggs about the squad, but Van Gaal being Van Gaal, he'll probably want to see the players close up and determine who can best absorb his ideas for the game before taking action.

You're most likely correct, although I would imagine the players in Ogden's report are on LVG's list. It matches up with a few other reports.

had not heard that. thanks.

all in all...very underwhelming... but then it may all be different after the World Cup.
Just seen an article with Janmaat mentioned too. Highly doubt we are interested in all and most of it is likely made up because they are Dutch. I wouldn't mind 1 or 2 of them though.

More Dutch players

Well, I for one is very much torn in that respect. We are supposed to have a good scouting network, watching players from Fiorentina, Wolfsburg or whatever team is emerging. And LVG even though he works for Holland now, it's not like he is completely pre-occupied, should at least delegate some stuff and kind of narrow down our options (i don't wanna use the infamous word "list").
Yet, Moyes went for Everton's players. Now LVG goes dutch (or Munich player who he also knows). Many of those players are good and with a bright future. So i am open to the idea of Van Gaal bringing them here. And managers really knows them which is a plus. But it still feels extremely narrow and primitive.

We well may do good without any director of football, it's not like they all been gold, but we at least need a working department.

Only Dutch players I rate really high other than Strootman (when healthy ) is Depay. He has a very bright future ahead of him. I'm surprised a big club hasn't signed him yet, we should invest.

For some reason I am really calm and not worried about transfers at all.

I think things will be so much better under van Gaal that if we didn't sign anyone, I wouldn't really care.

last summer was more stressful because I had zero confidence in Moyes and felt we needed someone like Ronaldo to withstand the Moyes factor.

Obviously we will sign someone, but I am not sweating it.
