Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

I guess the people who insisted Moyes wasn't the (only) problem and predicted a major summer clearout and squad rebuild were right after all.

There were a surprising amount of people who couldn't take on board how poor our squad was (and largely still is) last season.

Blah.. Blah..Fergie won the league by X amount of points crew.

The signs were there before Moyes ever took over. Winning the league in the way we did allowed people to bury their head in the sand last season. People were in denial over how much we had declined but it's hard to ignore it now.

We are going to get low or no fees for most of our sales. Again due to the several years of minimal and poorly spent investment

Sunday and Monday my friend.
Watch this space (feck my life)

I doubt we'd want deadline day drama again after last season and after selling Clev we really need a CM if we didn't need it already. Probably hear more hopefully next 2 days.

Hopefully, have we actually sold Cleverley?

We are definitely leaving it late and there doesn't seem to be anything concrete about at the moment. We will be in the shit if we don't make at least 1 more signing though.

I think we will get Blind and that's it, which will be pretty disappointing.

Di Maria is great but he won't be able to do much if our midfield is being overrun by teams like Swansea and Sunderland whilst our defence is leaking goals.

I sensed VG thought he could win allot of their early games because of our easy fixture run (ON PAPER)

Yeah apart from getting Di Maria, Shaw, Herrera and Rojo it is a terrible window.

What? When did anyone say it was a terrible window? It would be disappointing when we are lacking a top quality defensive midfielder.

It is because of how its gone about and the timing of these signings, yea we signed these players, you forgetting shaw and herrera were our only summer signings before the PL started, we signed rojo just has the PL started, Di maria was signed after the 1 1 Sunderland draw, and because of how much rebuilding is needed we still need more signings. So the way the club has signed these players has been a mess. It has taken VG and woodward to open their eyes, that this is a huge rebuilding job. Fergie let the squad regress, and Moyes accelerated the decline to freefall. So VG has got a crumbling mess of a squad, that still needs more players

When your midfield consists of carrick herrera fletcher anderson cleverley fellaini valencia nani young kagwa mata, with strikers in rooney and RVP who do not work has a pair, and losing ferdinand vidic evra and giggs, and carrick is injured until october, its a huge job to do

Who cares when they arrive aslong as there here before the 1st. We have only played two games.

We should be rebuilding for the medium to long term and getting players in that LVG.

If the players he wanted weren't or aren't available before now there is very little that can be done about it.

We also now have Di Maria who will slot into midfield and a midfield of carrick, Herrera and Di Maria isn't bad.

We need no one up front as the players we have in Rooney, Mata and RVP are as good as any team.

LvG talked about players coming and going over the weekend, that means we can expect at least one more signing. i hope for Carvalho or of course Vidal.

Cleverley to Aston Villa or Everton £8-9m
Kagawa to Dortmund £10m + 2£m add ons

Wo else leaving?

Don't think we can get rid of Young and Anderson but should.

Hope Rafael and Welbeck are staying.

Lindegaard has expressed a desire to move on in order to get playing time. If he stays then another keeper will go out on loan.

Hernandez appears to have at least two clubs interested. I expect him to leave in the next few days.

The likes of Powell, Will Keane etc will have to go out on loan (if not sold) as reserve team football isn't any use to them at this stage and they appear to be miles away from the first team. Varela and Vermijl probably come in this category. Tom Lawrence another.

Slight chance that the rumours about Rafael (mentioned by Daily Mail as being among players told they can go, also Roma interest), Welbeck (wants to leave but club reluctant to let him join a top 6 side) or Fellaini (Napoli's interest seems to have vanished, LVG's position unclear, recent injury) turn out to be true and crucially, a suitable club is willing to pay the desired fee, or a decent loan fee. At the moment I think all three will stay in the short term.

4 days to go, and we're trying to sell/loan Cleverley, Welbeck, Anderson and Kagawa, and buy a couple of players.

Nothing like leaving it until the last minute!

The only one we won't shift is Anderson I reckon. At least with scrap cars you can weigh em in for a few quid.

To be fair Fletcher was good when we were winning the league with him, after disease he is finding it difficult - anyone would after two years with basically not football. Clevelrey has always been a passenger after his first two months in the first team, he had his moment but they were few and far between.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. The Carrick operation just before the tour did not help Fletch. He has not had a pre-season for goodness knows how long. If Carrick was there Fletch would not have played to the extent he did. The conditions are punishing in the US as well. They could have just gradually built his stamina and playing time up. If we can get someone for midfield it will be great for him and he can be used sensibly. Clevs unfortunately is a lost cause.

Fletcher shouldn't be more than a bit part player here now. If he'd played through the last two years he'd still have good 2-3 years at the top level left but he didn't - he had a serious disease and it's a miracle that he's come back to football afterwards. I like the fact that we're showing him respect by keeping him in spite of the fact that he might not be good enough for a team like Manchester United, we didn't ship him out like Barcelona did with Abidal once he beat cancer. I hope he finishes his career with us because he deserves it after the way he fought his sickness determined to come back. However it'd be for the best if we signed someone to play ahead of him and gave him 15-20 games a season - he'd be much more capable of coping with a small number of games for now, he'll probably be slated a lot by the fans if he plays regularly because he's nowhere near ready for it and he really does not deserve that.

All gone a little bit quiet on the incomings front, surely expect some news today - can't leave it until Monday?!?

Fletcher is finished. Loyal servant etc but he's done.

I'd like to keep him out of respect though. Let him play 15-20 games a season for the next 2 years against weaker opposition and in the League Cup/FA Cup, then move him to a coaching role. I don't want us to do what Barca did with Abidal.

You can't keep him out of respect. He's been well looked after by this club through his illness but his time as a player is clearly up. He's done some coaching badges I think and he's spoken about wanting to manage so his best bet would be to get himself an assistant manager post somewhere I say. After recent events I wouldn't be surprised if he's contemplating retiring as a player and suspect those boots will be hung up if he's told he won't play for us again.

I'd be happy with 0 fee for Kagawa if Dortmund give us first option on Reus and or Hummels next Summer, not like the £12m is going to make much difference to us.

The fact we know Dortmund and Klopp love Kagawa gives him more value selling to them than to anyone else.

Daniel Taylor tweeting that MUFC have let him know nothing will be happening on Vidal?Carvalho fronts. Interesting.

I wonder who then?! Surely we need at least one midfielder - LvG himself alluded to players coming in and possibly a new group.

I heard we're competing with West Ham for Song but he wants to go to Liverpool. He might change his mind as the end of the window draws close though.

I think that or signings are going to be a couple of Rojos i.e. out of the blue. Thinks it's been that way all transfer window. No one really predicted from the presses who we were after
