Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

How does everyone feel about this summer if we sign no one else other than Di Maria?

A few on here have been pretty depressed at our lack of activity but Shaw, Herrera, Rojo and Di Maria would be a huge financial outlay. Personally I really wish Vidal was a possibility but even without him we have signed four very good or at least potentially good players. Is this a satisfactory window?

It would be satisfactory of course. But we still haven't addressed a key weakness in the middle of the park.

Satisfactory? It's bloody fantastic is what it is. I'd have taken this outcome in a heartbeat at the start of the window. How about you?

Yes I agree. Although as I say another central midfielder seemed more of a priority to me than Di Maria. Obviously id be ecstatic if we sign him as he is world class but can't help but feel another CM would be a better signing. Hope I am proved wrong though and fully expect a great season from Di Maria.

Also slightly concerned by the centre back situation but I havent seen a huge amount of Rojo other than the WC so too early to judge on that signing

It would be satisfactory of course. But we still haven't addressed a key weakness in the middle of the park.

We have also lost a lot of experience in the likes of Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra and Giggs. Lets hope the likes of Rooney step up to the plate as one of the most senior players (and captain)

I think we will get one, maybe even two more players, as well as Di Maria.

Vidal and a defender would make for an incredible window.

I am still dumbfounded that we have gone this far into the transfer window and have not yet signed a partner in CM for Herrera. Clearly our current midfield is so average as to be disgraceful.

There are a long list of players who would make our CM competitive at least. We have ball players galore, what I wanted to see today was the ball breaking and our on rushing CM smashing into the tackle and winning us some momentum

My expectations have always been that it would take at least two summer windows for LvG to get the squad rebuilt as he would like. So overall with DiMaria it is a good start I think. Of course we can't really judge a transfer window until at least one season has been completed and possibly more. The proof will be in how the players make out for United and how the team does.

If we could finish of the week with Vidal and Lucas Silva added to Di Maria, Herrera, Shaw and Rojo it would be the biggest window in United's history and with those additions all in the team I think LvG can have us in great shape by mid October.

Di Maria is clearly a quality addition but, as plenty of people have said, he doesn't really address the main problem areas.

I see reports linking us to De Jong and Blind again. I have to say I'd be quite disappointed if that's the best we do. We would have spent so much money and we'd still have a weak midfield. Is it really that hard to fix?

We need someone to spray the ball around. Not sure if Herrera can do that? But we're probably one or two from a dream summer. Fingers crossed

I wonder who we will end up with come September 1st. Really hope we get at least a couple more players in

If only the Fellaini money had been used properly ....

I admit I was wrong. I said earlier in the summer that we will not bring any World Class Players this transfer window. Glad to be wrong this time!

Man United boss admits he is looking to add to squad in coming days

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal hopes to add to his squad in the coming days.

Marcos Rojo joined recruits Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera during the week, and Van Gaal has suggested there are plans to continue adding players.

“You have to buy what can improve your team,” the Dutchman told The Telegraph.

“That’s why I bought Rojo, because he can play here and here [in two positions]. So for us he is very good.”

Asked if that was the end of his transfer business, Van Gaal responded: “No, no, we shall buy maybe more players. You never know.”

Manchester United Scouts Watch 20mil star, talk he is Old Trafford bound.

Manchester United are said to have scouted Daley Blind at the weekend.

Manchester United sent scouts to watch Daley Blind in action at the weekend for Ajax.

United We Stand fanzine editor and ESPN correspondent Andy Mitten broke the news on hisPlayUp video app, while giving his reaction to the club's impending Angel di Maria deal.

He went onto suggest a deal to sign the Dutchman is in the pipeline, but stressed it is unconfirmed:

"I'm also told United were watching Daley Blind for Ajax against PSV. Word among the scouts is that United have done the deal.

"I've not heard that from the other end but there certainly seems to be talk in Holland that Blind is going to Old Trafford - Again thats not been confirmed that's just talk among scouts who don't have to stand it up."

Blind has been linked with United on and off over the summer, with the versatile star part of Louis van Gaal's Holland squad at the World Cup.

Capable of playing at left wing-back and in central midfield, he would add depth to United's squad and could be the reinforcement the club are eyeing to strengthen in the middle of the pitch.

Blind did not however have a game to remember at the weekend, as Ajax lost 3-1 at home to rivals PSV.

While he completed 92 per cent of his passes, he only made one tackle and one interception, although did create one goalscoring opportunity.

Well it'll only be the one unless we get Vidal and that's not really enough.

Did you honestly expect us to bring more than one player of Di Maria calibre?

Yep, we've had a terrible window. Only signed one of the best young midfielders in La Liga, the best young left back in Premier League, one of the best defenders in Portugal who impressed at the World Cup and Real Madrid's best player from last season, for a grand total of £136m. We are also likely to bring Dutch player of the year.

I thought pretty much anyone would have taken that before the window but it seems I was wrong. It's Vidal or die. Just for the record, if we can get a defensive midfielder I will consider this window a great one that could transform the team. If we fail to bring a DM we will still struggle. Doesn't have to be Vidal or Busquets though, I'm not that picky, a competent defensive midfielder will suffice.

Indeed, any defensive midfielder that isn't absolutely crap and is capable of doing dirty work and I'll be delighted. We have creativity in midfield, we just need someone to take care of the defensive side and we'll be absolutely golden.

How does everyone feel about this summer if we sign no one else other than Di Maria?

We'll have a weakness other teams can exploit. The same weakness we've had for some time. Di Maria might Bale us out of a few games (geddit?), but the good teams will still know how to beat us.

Pretty much this, a DM will complete this side imo and it's helpful to remember that one of Jones, Smalling and Evans will surprise us and Van Gaal over the season if they enjoy a relatively injury-free season. Players grow and I'm certain that one the defenders will grab their chance and do us proud. Just get that elusive defensive midfielder and we are ready to go which is why I would be comfortable with signing McCarthy or Scheiderlin, but then the prices that would be demanded would make it reasonable to sign a cheapish option like De Jong and wait it out for Strootman and/or others like Lars Bender, whom we would be able to grab from a position of strength.
