Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Don't take me for an idiot, that's why said we bought potential, and invested massively in positions where we add time and depth while we didn't in positions where we needed improvement right away and depth. The plan was bad and the future confirmed it.
An other when other clubs plan for the future they try to have good deals, Jones for 18m wasn't a good deal at the time.

The purchase of Jones was in no way a hindrance to our CM buys or the lack of it. I don't know why you are trying to intertwine the two. Going by your logic, Rooney's purchase was also that of a tremendous potential (although he was more proven than Jones) and the outlay that time was huge. Jones for 18 million was perhaps a bit expensive but no way unnecessary. Imagine if had also bought Varane, as we were trying to at that time, we would not have been crying out for a top CB like we are now. I am sure you would have still cribbed if we had got Varane that time. Many of us, including me, thought of it as a useless pursuit since we already had so many CBs. But now it seems SAF was planning more long term than many here think for the CB position at least.

supposedly both Khedira & Di Maria want out of Madrid, why the useless feck Woodward isn't all over that is beyond me, perfect signings both of them, but let me guess he has sponsors to court or something instead, no doubt whilst cretins here say it will all be okay cause "nobody is available" for us to add to this squad ffs.

Not enough time for us to craft a bid now from a standing start

If Cavani to arsenal scuppers Di Maria then the key is not to panic buy.

Try and offload a couple more players; Anderson, Hernandez and Fellaini ( subject to injury) and possibly even Shinji given LVG's comment about too many 10's.

Bring in De Jong/Blind and Vlaar. See it as a steadying the ship season, give some of the kids a chance and then spend big next summer (or even in jan) but only on the right players.

Sturridge got most of his goals in the first half of last season, I don't rate him when the pressure is on tbh, he is also very inconsistent in front of goal at times, Balotelli will easily outscore him imo.

either way, we are fecked without more signings, but like I said I imagine the club think Rojo is all we needed
I may be mistaken but didnt the liverpool team score 70 goals without Suarez's goals last season ?

Im fully expecting good old Ed to push through one last transfer right at the death of this window. Something completely out of left field, like wrapping up the Baines portion of the Fellaini-Baines deal we tried to push through at the very last minute last summer, for instance

We've had plenty of time to finally iron that shit out.

Mundo Deportivo say that Olympique Marseille have turned down an offer from us for Benjamin Mendy at Bielsa's request. Apparently he's 20 year old defender.

I think it might be old news though because according to transfermarkt he's a left back.

People saying the Glazers are happy with failure; I find that hard to believe. I mean they bought this club for the money, but it isn't going to be worth anything like what it was originally if they led it slip to mid-table standards for too long, they're going to lose a fortune (like it or not success brings fans, revenue, sponsorships, ticket sales...) and surely they must know this. Even as a business venture and nothing else, surely they'd be crazy to not invest and keep their product making a profit?

LvG said it takes only 24 hours. If we really wanted him and could afford him and the other club had agreed a price etc, i don't see them saying it's too late just yet.

Danny Welbeck told he can leave Manchester United which could spark interest from Arsenal and Tottenham
Manchester United tell England striker Danny Welbeck, 23, he can leave the club, sparking interest from north London rivals

Danny Welbeck has been told he can leave Manchester United during the final week of the transfer window.

The news will be of particular interest to Arsenal and Tottenham, who are both big fans of Welbeck and have checked on his availability in the past.

With only two years remaining on his contract, United value Welbeck at around £15 million which would comfortably fit into the budgets of north London rivals Spurs and Arsenal.

The 23-year-old can play as a left-sided forward, as he often does for England, or through the middle. He has scored 20 Premier League goals in 90 appearances for United.

But with Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez at the club, new United manager Louis van Gaal has decided Manchester-born Welbeck can leave Old Trafford.

Would be absolutely gutted if this is true..:(

I rate him higher than Hernandez, especially of late.

Last summer was sad and funny in the same time, thsi summer is just tragic.

I actually like what we have done so far compared to other years. Us being unable to sign world class players or simply good players instead of the "right" players is nothing new really. The tragic thing is the injuries, that Evra had to leave us and that we have left it so late. I mean, I simply don't get why we find it so hard to get rid of some players and don't look at players, who would improve us, but for whatever reason don't consider them. For example if di Maria doesn't work out, why don't we go for Firmino from Hoffenheim? He's very talented, had a very good season with Hoffenheim, is hardworking and wouldn't cost as much currently. Knowing us it's di Maria or nothing and that's exactly what has turned this squad into an unbalanced side with too many average players.

We get down to business. The fans want signings, I tell him. Can he reassure them? “I have to discuss that with my board, not you,” he fires back. But he also yields a little:
“You have to buy what can improve your team. That’s why I bought [Marcos] Rojo, because he can play here and here [in two positions]. So for us he is very good. No, no, we shall buy maybe more players. You never know.

“I don’t think it is fair for me to come here and fire all the players. So I give them a fair chance, I think.” He makes it clear that those who took part in the pre-season tour of America had already been evaluated, while the rest have also now been assessed: “Now [or then] you can say something.”

From the Gary Neville interview with Van Gaal.

I really believe we'll buy another midfielder before the end of the summer. Carrick is out injurred to long, Fellaini and Herrera are out injurred aswell and the good partnership of Herrera and Fletcher we saw at preseason hasn't come off at all since coming back. Khedira, De Jong, Blind, Guarin, Lucas Silva are the ones I think we're looking at. Di Maria is the only other signing I think may still come, if we can reach an agreement with Real over the transfer price and the player is keen I think we'll sign him if not than I think our summer will be over.

I agree that we will sign a midfielder.

Who though i have no idea at this point. Could be a Rojo type signing in midfield as well to meet specific requirement of type of midfielder LVG wants.

Manchester United have been left on alert as Marco Verratti’s situation at PSG has set Europe alight.

Gazzetta dello Sport says Verratti is unhappy with the terms of his PSG contract and feels he deserves a raise.

The midfielder’s agent has now sounded out PSG about opening talks over an improved deal.

However, president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has rejected the request, much to the disappointment of Verratti’s camp.

That has alerted the likes of United to his availability, as Louis Van Gaal is still looking to add a creative spark to his squad.

I'm booking all next week off work. Big shit is going to go down.
If the talk about possible 3 signings will also go through in a 'good to go' sense then it's gonna be hell of a ride.

New manager, new staff and six players in one window is a serious revolution.

Who else do we feel will go?

Fellaini - hopefully

One of Welbeck and Hernandez

Anderson... if anyone will take him. Does he still even play football?

Cleverly perhaps?

Can't let both Cleverley and Fellaini go unless we bring two in, I reckon.

So who is next as Goldberg would say?

Di Maria seems to be done unless a last minute feck up. We been linked with Blind and De Jong. I wouldn't want both at the club because we'd just be adding two average CMs. Prefer if we go for one though. De Jong edges it because he's played in the league, would be cheaper and would allow our attacking players more freedom.

We don't have any average CMs.

We have one decent one and a load of shite behind him.
2 average CMs would be a MASSIVE upgrade.

How does everyone feel about this summer if we sign no one else other than Di Maria?

A few on here have been pretty depressed at our lack of activity but Shaw, Herrera, Rojo and Di Maria would be a huge financial outlay. Personally I really wish Vidal was a possibility but even without him we have signed four very good or at least potentially good players. Is this a satisfactory window?

Satisfactory? It's bloody fantastic is what it is. I'd have taken this outcome in a heartbeat at the start of the window. How about you?
