Death or the gladioli!
I think I'd rather keep Mata than Rooney
Or any other few qualities we have currently. My opinion: we should not sell Mata under any circumstance this summer.
@Empire I think we don't need further proof than the whole of last season for everyone to understand that Rooney is totally unfit to be the number 10/shadow striker. LVG shouldn't expect too much from Rooney, especially when the latter has "consistently" shown that "positional discipline" and "sticking to a plan" are not featuring in his vocabulary.
Seriously, I would rather put Rooney in the hot seat, and sell him first rather than selling the younger and fitter Mata. For the record, Mata has shown he can take plenty of games under his belt without getting injured; his record at pre-Mourinho Chelsea is unbelievable.
best news ive heard all week!!And another. Robben turns us down or something

Indeed. Although unfortunately the marketing dept don't agree. It will bite us in the arse in a few years not cashing in now, especially if he had s decent world cup.I think I'd rather keep Mata than Rooney
I'm pretty sure Mata will be first choice. My post was based on the assumption Rooney will be first choice shadow striker (the role Louis termed himself of the most advanced central midfielder).
I made clear if Louis van Gaal doesn't think Mata is first choice it makes sense to sell him if we get £40m and invest that money elsewhere. For you to dispute this point is to say we shouldn't accept £40m for a player that will not be first choice. That we are better with Mata on the bench (even though Kagawa can perform that role) and not investing £40m than we are to sell Louis' second choice player to buy similar quality where it's more needed.
If Mata is first choice for Louis then it goes without saying we must keep him however Rooney might be the preference as the shadow striker and Mata isn't the wide player Louis likes.
LvG only has to see how much chemistry (or lack of it) has developed between RvP and Rooney in 2 full seasons.I will be absolutely devastated if Mata goes and LVG plays Rooney where Mata should be playing (and would do a far, far better job than Rooney). Mata is world class and it makes no sense whatsoever to get rid of him.
Eh? Another #10?Van Gaal want Christian Eriksen .
Van Gaal want Christian Eriksen .
Van Gaal want Christian Eriksen .
At the moment, I think the press don't have a clue who we're after. It seemed to be that under Moyes, they had a pretty good idea of who we might be chasing, but not many, if any, of those are seemingly on van Gaal's list, therefore we're just being linked with any player who has a vague connection to him. This could be that they're Dutch, or have worked with him previously, or even have just played for a Club in Holland at some point.
The one I've seen us linked with that I'm pretty sure we'd be after is Strootman (once recovered from injury). Again, that's just a hunch. His injury complicates things as I'm not sure if it leaves scope to get it done in this window, but I think it's more unlikely Roma would sell in January.
One thing seems certain; If you're not on the van Gaal list, you're not coming in.

It's hardly surprising that the press have no clue who he'll be going after considering how long he's been in the job.
Moyes on the other hand was clearly lining things up in January.
Obviously we will only be on fir players Van Gaal rates. No point appointing him and not letting him get his own players in.
Gustavo has an exit clause of €25m and said that he'll consider the options of staying at Wolfsburg or leaving once the WC is over.
Of course he is, there's no way we're going to sign some of the players the media are linking us to.Cue in for the 'I'm happy at Bayern and don't want to move' from Shweinsteiger.
Stop believing that the club is targeting every name the media links us to.Of course he is, there's no way we're going to sign some of the players the media are linking us to.
We will definitely not be signing any of the Bayern players or players from any other big teams unless said players and unhappy and have handed in transfer requests. Why would they even want to join us? We can't offer European football and we've got a squad that didn't even look like performing to the levels they should have last year. You'd have to be insane to join us from a team like Bayern. Regardless of how much money is involved.
We're best off targeting the big players at smaller teams and next season (once we're back in Europe) go for the bigger players at bigger teams and their teams resolve.
I think the reason why a lot of us are getting impatient is that all winter we've been reading how we will 'tie up X amount of players before the WC because the club has learnt their lesson from last summer'.I am pretty sure none of these players are our targets, 1st July is still a good step away, van Gaal hasn't worked as United coach so far, yeah we will do some business or looking for deals already, but I don't expect much before the World cup, even if there is a done deal like Shaw, it won't be announced before the WC.
The thing with Gustavo is that he's very keen on European football which he has guaranteed next season with Wolfsburg and United couldn't offer. That's what is publicly known.
A friend of his is every now and then active in a German football forum and wrote that Gustavo would love his kid (almost 1 year old) to grow up in Germany; that was one important reason for him to stay in the Bundesliga and decline offers from England and Italy last summer. He could change his mind though or "commute" like Podolski does whose wife and son live in Germany, too, IIRC.
I can feel an extremely frustrating summer up ahead.
I totally understand that this is how the vast majority of United fans see the world. The point is that this is not necessarily how players see it, and that the situation can change. To be fair, the difference between playing in the Europa League and not playing in Europe at all is not that big, if there is any at all. There's no way he'd reject the chance to join us and play under Van Gaal again as we're by far the bigger club.
English media is a big joke, they are just guessing and when they realize nobody believes them, they saying van Gaal don't want him^^
