You're probably right, but you never know. With respect to those players they're not 'marquee'. Darmian has stepped up, as has Schneiderlin and Depay. S.Steiger has won it all. Perhaps qualification was not so vital for them this year as it would be for a major signing.

Yes, I'm muppeting out I know.

I just read this paragraph of fatboy’s (very good) post in the (pointless) Neymar thread.
So let’s imagine it’s not only about sporting performances of players, but also about this kind of athletes, who become their own trademarks and who are also known by people who are not totally involved in the world of football.

If you look at our squad these days, you have to say that only Rooney and Schweinsteiger are such players. (Which doesn’t say anything about how good or bad our current squad is, of course.) Even if I think that Van Gaal doesn’t look for fame when he is scouting players, I wouldn’t wonder if Woody wants to sign at least one (more) really famous face before deadline day.

I still think that this Bale-saga is not over yet. (With De Gea leaving.)

Ceterum censeo we need a striker. ;)

But we don't have a Ribery or Robben or anyone close to their level even now nevermind when they were in their prime.

I dont really want us to go for mane tbh he's nowhere near the calibre of player we should want at United.
 
Would people be happy with Stones & Berahino at this stage or are we thinking wilder?
 
A faster wide right forward and a striker who wants to be here. Has anyone seen the look on Hernandez's face this season.
 
I know he's been written off as a poor signing by some but I think Mane would be good for us. Just watching the Southampton match and he is a menace, pacey and skillful. He's certainly better than signing no one and having limited options up top IMO.
 
We need a winger and a striker, and depending on how Blind does, another CB wouldn't go amiss either.

I doubt one, let alone three of those will come in in the next two days, so I'm happy with another season of steady improvement in the League, as well as long run in Europe to surprise a few and put people on notice for next season.

2nd or 3rd with a cup and a semi final run in the champions league is a good season bearing in mind the fact we're pretty much bedding in half a new squad and the players we need to improve simply aren't on the market this summer.
 
A long term replacement for de gea, a cb, a winger and a striker but will have to wait until next summer now, just too much to do this window coupled with our obsession with getting a superstar which was never going to happen.

We have enough to finish third or fourth but it's going to take a few more players to get us to a level where we can win the league and it is too late for this season now.

F. Anderson - Mata - Depay

Ibrahimovic now, Kane and Gabriel Jesus later. Navas played well vs Betis and we should lure him here with De Gea going the other way. Then perhaps another flair wide player.
 
3 players or at a push 4 and if we sell De Gea? 5. United are paying for talking value at a time, they should have been improving the team. Stupid planning and now we got this stupid mentality, that we need a world great. While letting our competitors improve, we're not because we're fecking about. It's pathetic.
 
We have to sign a player, pace and direct. I don't mind if they are just potential at the moment but we have to sign pace..
 
Doesn't matter who we sign. Put Messi into this system and he'd be shit.

Some magical transfer dust isn't going to solve our problems.
 
Need a no.9 and a no.10 and probably a right side attacker, need to play De Gea or buy a keeper as well.

It would have gone down pretty badly if I'd said this before that game, but we need at least 4 new players in order to challenge for the league. We need a new CB (still) because Blind is a good player but not a first choice defender for one of the top 3 clubs in the world. We need a right sided winder/player because Mata is a slow #10 who thrives on having time to play a nice pass through centrally. We need a striker because Rooney and we need a Goalkeeper because we have a billion of them but none who should be playing in goal for Manchester United (yes, including de Gea. I don't think we should be playing a player in the first team who wants out so desperately).

We'll not sign any and certainly not 4 of course, but that indicates that either Van Gaal is not good enough, or that our owners have decided that after the big spend last year, they are happy with top 4 and spending less.
 
Oh joy we've got 2 days to sign a RW, GK, CB and ST.

Bale, muller, ramos and Lloris should do the job for us. If anyone can pull it off its Sir. Ed woodward.

At this point I'd take anyone though
 
We'll sign Lloris and Harry 'I've scored even less than Rooney' Kane in an £85'000'000 double swoop.

Disagree, we need pace and players who are direct. People that will run in behind and stretch the game..

I thought the same as you but when we signed Mata my opinion changed, he was the one that was going to make things happen but what can he actually make happen..there is nobody making that run, nobody challenging in behind with pace so it makes him look bad..

It has to be pace and direct to allow players like Mata/Herrera to perform, look at Silva this season with Sterling and Navas either side, suddenly he is back to being a world beater. We really could have done with Pedro but now we need to look elsewhere..I don't know who but surely there are players on our radar with this profile..

I think it's a movement issue more than a pace one personally. Thomas Muller isn't quick but he'd make those runs (not that we could get him).

I think we need a wide forward who can consistently produce moments of magic. If they're quick then brilliant but if not we should still go for it.
 
I'd be delighted with Pato and Mané realistically. Still think we'll hear more about Anderson too.
 
So annoyed that we didn't get Pedro.

However, there is still time to get a big transfer done I'm sure of it.

We need an attacking player of the calibre of Neymar/Ronaldo/Bale. Unfortunately, whilst I think the money is there, none seem realistic at this time.
 
Last season, LVG went on and on about a 20-goal/season striker. Now we just need some combination of strikers who can score 20 goals together.
