Manchester United Summer Transfer Window 2015: What do we still need?

I was mistaken, I checked dates and our first game is on the 17th of July. 13th of July players fly to USA, so that makes it 21 days.
I would say they will be back in a couple of weeks for checks on the players, then as you say they fly out, acclimatise and then start playing the games.

I'm sort of worried a bit because now we're very close to preseason and our only signing has been Memphis. van Gaal wanted to make most business before we head out for preseason. :(

Players back on 1st July, 10 days extra given to players who have played in internationals, and have read on twitter (yes I Know) that LVG is back in the house this coming week, so next 2-3 weeks could be pretty entertaining.

No doubt due to the CL qualifier we will do all we can to get everything done as early as possible, the Copa is a bit of pain though.

Are there any "legitimate" rumors at all? I don't follow the silly season as actively as I used to after the Moyes summer debacle so I'm not really itk atm. Doesn't seem like were close to signing anybody but then we have a tendency to not leak much stuff. Right back, center back? cm/dm? players leaving? we have alot of business to do, unfortunately that will get done after the preseason starts again.

Anyway, hoping we can sign Schneiderlin, Otamendi and sell some player at least.

My opinion if we actually want to go for the title/high CL

Depay - Striker - Di Maria

Rooney - Herrera

Schweinsteiger

Shaw - Ramos - Otamendi - RB

Valdes/Lloris

So in short:

Striker
CDM
2 CB (sorry but Jones and Smalling just are still not up for it, Ramos would be perfect with 29 years old to let them develop more)
RB (obviously)
GK optional

GK - Leno/Lloris
RB - Fabinho
CB - Ramos/Otamendi
CM - Schneiderlin
CM - Schweinsteiger

We should cement top 4 with these additions.

In all honesty, probably not. Ramos is the only sort of rumour that kind of has legs as it seems Woodward has briefed them, but ultimately you can only see that ending up in a new deal at Madrid for him. The press are throwing crap at the wall more this Summer then ever, They don't have any sort of clue, It's a strange feeling this Summer in truth.

I think we'd still be lacking the firepower.
With a solid midfield and defence, which those signings would give us, our current attackers would flourish. Maybe another striker, definitely another if RvP leaves.

There's still not a lot of goals in our attack, much too reliant on Rooney. Di Maria doesn't score many, nor do Young or Januzaj, and RvP is a shell of the player he was and I don't think Mata and an untested Memphis can make up the difference. I'm just not sure where we can get another striker of the required quality from.

Problem with relying on that new striker to be the source of the goals is it means Rooney back into midfield which stifles our attack anyway. This is why I didn't understand those people against signing Bale before he committed his future to Madrid. Having said all that I still think a front three of Memphis/Rooney/Di Maria has potential with Januzaj/RvP/Mata as backup.

Rooney is the peg without a hole to me, I don't want to see him in midfield but I'm not convinced he has enough in him now to be the main #9 in a title challenge. I agree on Bale, we needed to add more firepower wide due to Rooney, I just don't see enough goals in the options and RvP is liability at this point IMO.

If we continue to play 4-3-3, then i would like to see the following players coming in

GK - Leno or Timo Horn
RB - Clyne
CB - Godin
CM - Schneiderlin
CM - Gundogan

Lineup would be:

----------------Leno/Horn---------------

Clyne-----Smalling----Godin----------Shaw

----------------Schneiderlin----------------

-----Herrera-----------------Gundogan----

-----Di Maria----Rooney------Depay------

If we go to a 4-2-3-1

Then i would like these players coming in

GK - Leno or Timo Horn
RB - Clyne
CB - Godin
CM - Schneiderlin
CM - Lar Bender
RW - De Bruyne

Lineup would be:

----------------Leno/Horn---------------

Clyne-----Smalling----Godin----------Shaw

---------Schneiderlin---Bender------------

-----De Bruyne---Herrera----Depay-------

------------------Rooney----------------------

Rooney is getting older and is no more the young energetic striker and his best role will be the number 10, feeding to and off the center forward.
Benteke or Laluka should be bought to give United another dimension in attack. Just imagine when United have corners or free kicks on the flanks, there will be the giant forward and Felliani there to attack the crosses. As for the holding midfield, a younger player to be bought so that he will have more energy and mileage instead of those nearer 30 years. Schweinstiger may be a very good player but he will cost United a hefty wage bill and may be injury prone due to the robust EPL. Schneiderlin should be a better option. For the central defence, Otamendi should be acquired immediately as he is the only CB that has strongly voiced his intention to join United. Better buy someone who has made up his mind and will give 100% commitment. Make Valdes the first choice and United will save some cash in the transfer market. Bergovic should be bought to be nurtured into the first choice after Valdes decide to retire later. Play Bergovic in some of the cup and league games so to satisfy him. For the right back position, Clyne should be bought and if unsuccessful, continue with Valencia or use Jones there. Both of them are capable in that position and the new look United will be:

.........................................................Valdes/Bergovic.......................................................

Clyne/Valencia/Jones..................Smalling..................Otamendi.......................Rojo/Blind/Shaw

............................................................Carrick/Schneiderlin.................................................

.........................Hererra/Mata....................................................Felianni/Young......................

...............................................................Rooney.................................................................

.........................De Maria/De Pay...............................................Benteke/Van Persie.................

Actually, if all of United stars were to play to their potential, LVG has a very difficult task in choosing and juggling his first eleven.
There are still the youngsters that were not placed in the above line-up; McNair, Blackett, Januzaj, Lingard, Pereira.
I believe, United will not buy too many players as rumoured.

His fee was 27.5 million euros + 4.5 million euros in bonuses

Which converts to £ 23.5 million without bonuses and £27million with bonuses

I googled it and 32,5m euro converts to £23,29m and that's including bonusses. The fee upfront is £19,7m.

£23.3m is higher than that given in both of the posts I responded to. But in any case, the BBC reported a fee of £31m, including potential add-ons.

Good thing I said 'around' then as I cba to google it. If you really were interested you could've googled it yourself you know.

Little fun fact, the Dutch reporter who broke the news of 32,5m Euro is quitting his job as PSV reporter after 16 years for VI (respected Dutch football magazine with their own tv show) to become fulltime pressmanager at PSV. I know who I trust more out of Thijs Slegers or the BBC..

Any combination of Ramos, or Otemendi - Scheiderlin, or Schweinsteiger - Lacazette, Kane, or Benzema, and we'll be good go.

Love to see Otemendi, Schweinsteiger, and Lacazette myself, put a real spine into the team.

We'll obviously need a RB too, but that'll sort itself out.

Would be nice to see us get some more young talent in too, but not going to be greedy, the above will do for now.

You're making the mistake of thinking Glaston is interested in source credibility over whoever says we paid the most.

Since when did the BBC lack credibility?
On this story? When it was reporting Liverpool were at the head of the queue, at the same time news of the deal with United was breaking via the same Dutch journalists you're now choosing to ignore.

Edit: My bad, I've performed the cardinal sin of giving the WUM attention.

It's not just the BBC .... the Press Association, the Manchester Evening News and others all reported the £31m figure. I suppose they all lack credibility too.

They do if they keep mentioning that fee. All the reliable reports from Holland said it's 32m Euro and they have been spot on during the whole transfer, unlike the English press. That's just 2,5m less than Ajax has gotten for Alderweireld, Eriksen and Vertonghen combined aswell and is the outgoing transfer fee record from the Eredivisie. Doubt PSV got 44,7m Euro for him and absolutely smashed the transfer fee record, although I'd love that to be true.

Yeah, we're not getting him. Just using us for a better deal like so many more before. Expected us to get our business done earlier this summer when van Gaal/Woodward had more time but that's easier said than done. It doesn't look like much is going on at all, no idea who our targets are and what they're really looking for (although it's pretty clear). I hope we can sign Schneiderlin, Otamendi and a right back at least. We probably need another CM and a offensive threat. Plenty of players we should sell too.

Perreira and Lingard have done well in their respected tournaments even though they are playing against other youngsters, I think another CM might be the least likely position we need to fill out of our target areas. I think RB, ST and CB should be the most emphasised positions this transfer window.

Well here is to the BBC credibility !

PSV have denied the numbers the BBC reported about. They have said they wished they were true but they are not.

Love that 11. Can't see Bastian happy to come here and sit on the bench when fit but still a good 11 that could cause most teams problems

The problem about writing 11 names down is it seems so final like this team is set in stone but in reality Bastian would play alot of the games like on Herreras or Di Marias position. Depending who is beter suited for a certain game, in best form etc...

I hope we're not repeating the same mistakes of the first transfer window under Moyes, chasing players who are impossible to get.
