Manchester United Summer Transfer Window 2015: What do we still need?

no space for Smalling or ADM?

It's really unclear who we are after. There's nothing solid linking us with any individual players.

It does feel like it's going to be a difficult summer, despite the fact we have a hefty budget.

In other words: same shit, new day.

There was talk of us having an ABC of players, if we can't get A by the end of June we move onto B etc, reckon these might not be too far off atm, and how we may have already missed out on a couple of top targets.

GK Cech (proably gone), Lloris, Cillessen

CB Hummels (seems unlikely), Otemendi, Varane

DM Strootman (no chance now), Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin

RB Alves (gone), Clyne, Fabhino

CF Benzema, Kane, Lukaku

Seems we want another young forward player maybe too - Anderson, Firmino, Gaitan

Out of that list it would make sense to sign Lloris, Hummels, Schweinstieger, Schneiderlin and Kane.

Won't happen though I think, and If we sign guys like Cillessen we might as well just give up altogether on next season.

Personally reckon we're looking at Clyne, Otemendi Schneiderlin, and Anderson (hopefully), then I reckon DDG will stay one more season, if not then we may just go with Valdes and get Cillessen as back up, as for the striker I have no idea.

Hope we go into the season with something like this -

Valdes
Carvajal(unrealistic so someone other than Clyne), Smalling, Otamendi, Shaw
Schneiderlin
Herrera Di Maria
Mata Rooney Memphis

I'd like us to get Gundogan so that Di Maria can play wide too and another striker. Gamble on someone like Icardi or wait for someone top class to become available. Personally I wouldn't have Rooney starting every week. A inside wide player would be good as I don't think Mata is great there. So a Firmino/Anderson would be good.

I still don't know why we're leaving the Italian clubs to sort out Kondogbia between themselves. He's very gettable and would be a great addition.

Here is my realistic summer wish list, and I'd be very happy and optimistic if we could pull this off...

Forget Bale, Ronaldo, Vidal & Hummels

Bring back Hernandez, then sign Firminio and Otamendi

Sell Fellaini

It freshens things up, doesn't bring any ego problems ,and let's the current crop know that we still have faith in them

And lastly, if De Gea stays great, if not give Valdes a chance

Defensive midfielder, and right back?

Realistic would mean not selling Fellaini

Bloody hell this window is boring. Every day it's just the same names being in the same situation as the day before.

Pre-season can not come quick enough.

Looks like LVG won't get his wish of getting all of our signings in before pre-season starts. It was always a bit unrealistic with Copa America and all the fecking vacations.

Yep, bit frustrating but getting the players we want is the main thing. Still hope we can at least get the bulk one before the tour and definitely before the season itself starts.

International tournaments are one thing but players sitting on beaches instead of getting their careers sorted out first and then going on holiday irritate me.

Why would the players bother? That's the agents job my friend! He just phones the players for a yes or a no!

Not necessarily. Most of them refuse to think/act about their future until they're back from their holidays. It's perfectly understandable as at the end of a season they're fed up with football as a whole, but it's not good for us muppets :)

Come on united......

I need my muppet fix I'm starting to suffer now. Make a signing please!!!!

Wouldn't expect an announcement on weekends as good feedback on a signing would impact share prices. Trading days are normally Monday to Friday I think.

I think we need a centre-back and two midfielders minimum (we could get away with not signing a right back imo).

Otamendi plus two of Schneiderlin, Gundogan, Schweinsteiger and I'd be well happy. Obviously if De Gea goes we'll need a keeper as well though.

Say this £150m to spend is correct, surely this is a realistic summer.

£20m Memphis
£25m Schneiderlin
£12m Schweinsteiger
£30-35m Otamendi
Up to £20m on any RB

Which has us spending £112m, so £38m left over. Let's assume we get £20m from Nani, Hernandez and Evans. Puts us up to £58m.

Whatever De Gea goes for, we spend on his replacement.

Van Persie goes for something inconsequential.

That leaves us with £58m to spend on a striker which is all we'd really need at that point. In my opinion £58m gets us any striker we could realistically buy ie. Not Aguero or Suarez etc.

I don't think any of those transfers in or out would be unrealistic. Ive plucked Schweinsteiger's fee out of my arse but I wouldn't say it's far off what anyone would pay for him. And okay, say he's not available it's not the end of the world. Still leaves us with £70m to spend on a CM and striker with midfield options of Carrick, Blind, Fellaini, Schneiderlin and Herrera.

I'm honestly sat here thinking everything I've just said is realistic and would give us a squad capable of seriously challenging next season. Someone tell me I'm wrong?

---------------------Valdes-------------------
Fabinho------Smalling---Otamendi------Shaw
------------------Schneiderlin-----------------
---------Herrera---------Schweinsteiger-----
Mata--------------Rooney--------------Depay

-----------------Lindegaard-------------------
Valencia-----Jones-----Rojo--------Blind
-------------------Carrick-------------------
------------Fellaini------Di Maria----------
Januzaj---------Hernandez----------Young

Wilson, Pereira, McNair, Vanja-Milinkovic as reserves

DDG (£25m)/RVP (£4m)/Nani (£6m)/Evans (£2m) and Rafael(£1m) to be sold = £38m + a very hefty amount of the wage bill (Falcao was £200k+, RVP £200k+, Nani on £100k a week)

Otamendi (£35m), Fabinho (£15m), Schneiderlin (£25m) Schweinsteiger (£7.5m), Depay (£23m) = £105.5m

Imo this is the minium we should go for but wouldn't be entirely happy with it. Defence looks good and midfield would be the best we have had in ages but the keeper position worrys me and so does the striker position. Somehow I don't feel confident about Valdes as our nr1 at all and I think we should bring in a new keeper to have competition between them two and see who is better suited before we make a decision on who will be our nr 1. Vanja could be loaned out for another season so he gets play time and Lindegaard can be third choice goalkeeper.

Problem I really don't know who we should sign. Because on the one hand we can't just say you are guaranteed nr 1 as it would beat the purpose of Valdes here on the other hand we do need somebody who is good enough to have real competition.

Striker is a bit the same problem.

This is definitely what we still need
£20m Memphis
£25m Schneiderlin
£12m Witsel
£30-35m Otamendi
£20 Fabinho
£15 Benteke

Absolutely no way in the world Aston Villa are selling Benteke for £15m this summer I'm afraid. They'll want close to, if not all, of his buy-out clause.

Everything you've said makes sense, but it's rarely that simple. I can see Otamendi and Schneiderlin coming in but other than that I have no idea who our targets are.

Depay's fee was not £20m .... so not much reason to trust the rest of your figures.
