Manchester United Sign Anthony Martial!

Well , he will make the grade or slip into obscurity. If he is worth the money in three years time he will announce how he always wanted to play for Real. After scoring 30 goals in all competitions we will sell him for 15 million and get Ramos on two hundred thousand a week for his final payday season, sigh.

Feel sorry for this kid. No one actually cares because the Madrid De Gea saga is way more entertaining.

Also, what the actual feck are Sky Sports doing using Football Manager stats to compare players. Seriously? fecking desperate.

Good.

The attention will be off him.

Those stats being used (for any players) are an absolute joke. Just a way for clueless Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime like Merson to pretend they know anything about a player they've never heard of.
They'll probably have some tie in agreement with FM16 when it's released, or some crap.

Not excited at all. Could well be the next Zaha.

Same here.
I think we will need to wait 2 years or more before Martial can be judged.
People have been complaining about Memphis (ie. that he isnt that good). The reason for this is that he is young and in a new league. This will apply doubly to Martial. In fact, I'm not sure if he will play in our first team at all this year.

I still expect a misfiring Rooney to be more potent than anything Martial can do this season.
19 is a very tender age and I can only think that LVG is building for the long term, rather than attempting to win trophies this or next season.

Has to be :

---------Schweinstegier--------Schniederlin------------
-------------------------Mata-----------------------------
Martial----------------Rooney-------------------Memphis

Or when Rooney out:

---------Schweinstegier--------Schniederlin------------
------------------------Herrera-------------------------
Mata-------------------Martial-------------------Memphis

I agree with those. In any case, Martial looks capable of providing pace wherever we need him to use it with effect.

Against Arsenal in the Champions League, he gave them something to worry about. He even skinned Bellerin twice or more if I remember correctly.

 Both of them had better pedigree than Martial, tbf. Rooney came off an explosive Euro and Ronaldo had the admiration of most in the team after the match with Sporting. And neither cost as much as him.
Wow, that's some pedigree. He played well against us in a friendly.

Ronaldo cost 12 million which was a huge deal all that time back.

I am excited about Martial for that reason, his pace, we have been so lacking in it recently and now we have Memphis and Martial on the wings that can provide it, yes it may go wrong but it could also go very right, I may be in the minority but I actually think we could do well this season.

It wasn't that bloody huge even back then. I think he was more inexperienced than Martial though. And that game against Sporting prompted us to buy him a year earlier than we intended to. Losing out to Barca for Ronaldinho also had a bearing on our move for Chris that summer.

I watched the highlights of that game and he didn't look great at all. His first touch and passing wasn't too hot, his pace and strength was brilliant but needs work on the all round game, which he will get at United.

It's the kind of signing that excites me, but I've no idea if he's actually any good.

I meant more in terms of fee actually. It's similar to 36 million now-a-days if you consider how fees have grown. I think it might have been a record fee for a teenager as well.

But you're right in that isn't wasn't huge from a hype perspective. I didn't even know who he was when he was subbed on for his debut against Bolton. But that's the whirlwind effect of the internets and the twitters.

This has a Ronaldo feel to it. Just the signing. A very young striker whom not too many people knew about, signs with United for a very high amount and picks up a very important shirt number. I have a good feeling about this. We will be excited but he will come good maybe 2 years from now but it will be exciting to see his development. And there is lesser chance that he has seen dreams of Madrid as he is not latin american.

I dunno, was it a WR fee for a teenager? I suspect it wasn't. Funnily enough, I did know of him and his mate Queresma, which means he must've been heard of by most football fans(ha!). As for Martial, if people had watched him play they'd be less doubtful of his potential. Probably. But I'm backing the management's judgements on this one. You don't spend that type of cash on young players unless you have done your homework.

Are you being serious?

Of course he's going to play, we just paid 50 million for him.

My mistake. Seems it was a British record for a teenager.

Hello number 9!

Big number for a young man, hope he's up to it.

I feel like that. Don't know why, maybe it's the price tag and the fact we were willing to pay it. I hope he has an instant impact, though.

Don't care how it turns out, spending £36m on him sets a horrifying precedent. And if does turn out well, he ends up costing another £20m? Absurd.

Still, he'll be better than Di Maria...

He costs another that additional amount not if he turns out well but if he turns out to be one of the best in the game.

Well, ignoring everything else surrounding the shambles that was the end of our transfer window...

We've bought PACE people! Hell yeah!

Have never seen him play and honestly had never heard of him up until Sunday night but I think he'll be better than Rooney.

Best hope he's crap then hey? By all accounts alot of top clubs were sniffing around this guy, and the reality is young talent costs money, we have it, so what's the issue?

You make a good point that he will turn out better tan ADM, and how much did he cost?.... I'd bet Martial wages will be darn sight lower too.

The Zidane factor. Don't forget that. If he turns into a world-beater, those cnuts will be sniffing around like a mongrel at a lamp post.

Err if he becomes PL top scorer for 3 seasons and Ballon D'Or he will cost another £20m. If that's the case he'd be worth £100m.

The problem is Ronaldo played in a world class established midfield of giggs keane and scholes so the pressure was off him somewhat. Martial and Memphis are going to be judged by everyone on what they do this season. They both need to do well as we have little else in the way of creativity. Memphis has already been inconsistent. Understandably but our squad and lack of options mean we are relying on these two to learn very quickly and if they don't they'll get badly written off everywhere.

No one thought the British record for a teenager was a lot of money? Must have been some daft people.

I think half of the fee was payment for our link up with Sporting. It was high but I don't recall fans thinking we went mental. In fact fans saw his potential therfore they were chuffed regardless...

I think he'll do well. He's going to surprise us all and set the EPL alight.
Yessssss
