Manchester United Sign Anthony Martial!

I said it and Vasilyev confirmed it, he wasn't for sale at the time. Clubs probably asked but Monaco said no. When Monaco got knocked out from the CL United probably thought that asking couldn't hurt and Monaco were more receptive.

I read that Spurs were offered Martial.

Ok lads. With Martial confirmed. LETS SEE LINEUPS!!?!?!

What are we thinking?. Rooney dropped?. Rooney No.10?. No Herrera etc?. What we thinking we will do vs what we should do?

LVG will play this front four and RedCafe will explode:

--------- Rooney
Martial - Depay - Mata

A good signing for you guys I hope.

It does beggar belief that for whatever reason you missed out on pedro for a cheaper fee though - although obviously he has higher wages.

But 36 is a lot - really hope he proves his worth quickly

Everyone wants and the media links us to the likes of Reus, Bale, Neymar etc and we sign someone hardly anyone has heard of. Feels like Fergie is still in charge.
Ah.. the good ol' days when we never signed 'superstars' but still won stuff.

bit concerned about this deal as it reminds me of sterling deal by city, got potential (apparently) but still very raw and unproven looking at his age. at least latter is somewhat proven in the league.

It needed to be done. Obviously the transfer fee is just ridiculous but if it gets Rooney out of the team, I'll be more than satisfied.

Has to be :

---------Schweinstegier--------Schniederlin------------
-------------------------Mata-----------------------------
Martial----------------Rooney-------------------Memphis

Or when Rooney out:

---------Schweinstegier--------Schniederlin------------
------------------------Herrera-------------------------
Mata-------------------Martial-------------------Memphis

He looks quite clumsy on the ball, but you can tell he has ability and potential.

I watched a video of Henry at Monaco and they resemble each other a lot. Henry didn't join Arsenal until he was 22y/o - 3 years later than Martial to us.

If given the right guidance and game time he can become a very lethal player to have in our ranks. His pace will be very difficult for defenders to cope with, he just needs to know when and how to use it. There are a lot of very fast players who look very average, lets hope he doesn't turn into that.

Those stats being used (for any players) are an absolute joke. Just a way for clueless Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime like Merson to pretend they know anything about a player they've never heard of.

Why? We're obviously expecting martial to be the much better player down the line. Once we couldn't get an existing tier 1 player, we went for someone who can get there rather than getting a tier 3 player who will stay that way.

30m for Pedro or 55m for Anthony Martial?
Offcourse 55m for Anthony, the guy has loads of potential.

I can't see him making any sort of instant impact, which is completely understandable for a 19 year old. I still think we needed an established attacker along with this purchase.

Way more proven. Nearly 100 Premier league games and 16 International Caps.

The signing of Martial makes the Sterling deal look very conservative.

Feel sorry for this kid. No one actually cares because the Madrid De Gea saga is way more entertaining.

Also, what the actual feck are Sky Sports doing using Football Manager stats to compare players. Seriously? fecking desperate.

I assume you're joking but I'm probably more excited by Martial. Pedro was definitely the more sensible option though.

My next door neighbor is French, hes a big footy fan and watches La Liga. He follows Lyon.

Was talking to him last night - he was flabbergasted at the signing and the money paid. I asked him who Martial compared to and he said Welbeck when he first broke though as you can see he has talent, but you just know that there is a cap. He said he could be a good player and a decent Prem striker, but never a difference maker for United.

Amazing how he gone on from a relative nobody, who was hardly ever mentioned on his forum, to one of the brightest young talents in world football.

Hope, he lives up to his new billing. Too much pressure on a young kid with that fee. There will be an immense burden on him to hit the ground running in a different league, for one of the "biggest" clubs in world football. There is no room to ease him in with the departures we have allowed, he pretty much has to do it from day one.

Hope the fans are patient with him.
