Manchester United Sign Anthony Martial!

I think half of the fee was payment for our link up with Sporting. It was high but I don't recall fans thinking we went mental. In fact fans saw his potential therfore they were chuffed regardless...
It was huge money regardless at the time. There was less scrutiny as well then.

Either way, we know we've overpaid as of now. But if he turns out to be a great player noone will care.

I still expect a misfiring Rooney to be more potent than anything Martial can do this season.

What the feck? Rooney is so useless he should be playing in the lower leagues. If we've just paid potentially up to £50M for a guy that isn't better than Rooney immediately we really are an absolute joke of a club.

By then we'll be able to smash Real(financially speaking...)

I'd rather do that on the pitch but we're along way from that point now. I don't mind us signing up and coming continental players but there's always the risk that they'll be up and off when the Spanish giants show any interest, money or not.

There has always been scrutiny. Had Ronaldo not played against us in that friendly and cost us more than Cassano, folk would've been very skeptical. And rightly so.

Everyone's slightly skeptical. That's natural. But there's a difference between that and rolling your eyes at anything but a big name, which is pretty prevalent here.

I think with the DDG saga it will make Madrid think twice about going for our players again. It was a power play from Woody stalling the paperwork knowing the transfer wouldn't go through and the blame could be placed on Madrid.

Yeah, we have to hope that Real won't be able to compete with English clubs financially, apparently it may become a possibility. At the moment they'll go there for less money, but it's not as if there's a huge gap in what Real are willing to pay.

You realize that it's not what happened?

Are you guys trying to make Citys deals look shrewd?

Overall im happy we are signing some of the best young talent available, even if:
a) we are probably overpaying
b) ive never heard of the bloke

Signing talented youngsters is more sustainable than getting ageing stars in the long run, in my view. Aslong aa the squad is relatively balanced.

Yeah they caught the bug last summer. Blame our Messiah Woody, ADM and Falcao.

It's as if Homer Simpson has been put in charge of Manchester United.

It's the pull of Real/Barca have over continental players that worries me. It doesn't seem to affect British and Irish players-and there have been plenty good enough to play for either. I'm tired of selling players to Real in what seems like one-way traffic. Heinze, Ruud, Beckham, Ronaldo, and now De Gea (almost). But there again, I'm sure there are teams in England that see us in a similar light. Everton for one.

No other way of looking at it. This was a ridiculous deal.

Any player we want is going to be expensive purely because we want them.

1) We have the financial clout to match any team in the world.

2) Selling teams know we are doing an overhaul and under a lot of pressure to improve so they have a greater position of power with us.

I fully expect the crazy fees to die down once we get to the point where we are under less pressure.

Yeah but it's a recent thing, well since Real's Galactico policy. It could change, though. They've marketed themselves very well, to be fair.

He's not gonna bench Rooney if that's what you think.

Any chance Romero could have influenced this signing with a recommendation? One would imagine he had a lot of picking balls out of the net in training to do.

I'm officially excited, the last vid which was posted in this thread was actually rather brilliant.. looks a talent

Surely it's prudent to see how he settles before we pass judgement on the deal
No, this will obviously always be a ridiculous deal, even if he wins the Ballon D'or and is top scorer in the league multiple times!

Looks like he'll have a big first season ahead of him, since he's effectively our second main striker. If Rooney gets injured, is forced to change position, or we end up playing with two up top, Martial will be right into the team. Let's hope he can deliver. Certainly will have a lot of expectations considering his fee.

€30million up front
€5million per year for 4 years
Potential €5 million for PL top scorer (up to 3 times whilst playing for Man Utd)
€10 million if he wins Ballon d'or

that adds up to 65 million euro....

pedantic I know

€5m per season he finishes top scorer (so up to €15m).
And then also €5m if he wins Golden Boy, which I didn't know existed until this deal and it sounds a bit rapey.

Jesus, Anderson won the golden boy! It is usually based on hype. Really unprofessional if that is written in, it is chosen by journalists too!

The deal in terms of how much we've paid, especially up front. Not necessarily the player quality/potential

Money is no object to us now. £36mill is pocket change to us, we could easily afford a £120mill transfer every summer now. We decided we wanted the kid, we asked how much? And we paid. End of. Reus is 26 and dortmund asked for almost double what we paid for this guy.

We like buying young talent and i think anything around £35m for a world class potential player is probably the maximum that should be payed if they are unproven. Im sure we have done our homework.

Anderson was really good that first season in fairness, shat on Fabregas and everything.
