Huge fee, ballsy add ons and the #9. All the best to the lad, he's taking on a huge challenge.

Can he do it on a cold night in Stoke?

So who has the structure of our payment for Martial? Whats the breakdown?

30mil now and 5mil each for the next 4 years. This is the fixed bit.

5mil for every year he finishes as top scorer in the league. Max 15mil.

5mil if he wins the golden boy.

10mil if he wins the ballon d'or.

All in Euros.

Don't believe everything you read, especially from the seller club & its affiliated media partners & journalists as they will prices and clauses to make it seem as though they were forced to sell due to an exceptional offer, and reduce potential fan backlash and also make themselves appear as the stronger negotiators.

For example - almost every German outlet was saying we paid anywhere between £15-20m for Schweiny, and we actually paid £6.7 or so.
Wait what we only paid £7m for Bastian?

Can't wait to see this guy play for us. Huge fee and instantly given number 9. A huge show of faith from the club and our scouts.

Excited to see what he can do now and what he will grow into. Just thought we should have made it a six year deal to ward off potential vultures.

Excellent news - another top young talent with the potential to become world class. If he goes on to fulfill his potential, the size of his fee will become irrelevant.

Ah, that's not too scary. And if we have to pay more, it'll be because of things that are also quite good for the club.

At 36M pounds, the fee is clearly quite ridiculous. I'm not too bothered with the add-ons that could take it up to 58M pounds - if we end end having to pay the additional money, we'll be very happy to do so, as it means Martial will be an elite, world class player (which likely means team success). That said, deal is what it is. The club is clearly comfortable with it. There's absolutely no point focussing on the money at this stage.

Putting that aside, I'm a very big fan of these sorts of transfers. It's obviously a risky deal, but Van Gaal clearly trusts his scouting staff, and his own eye for talent. If he, or a similar player, had signed for one of our domestic rivals (or another big European club), we'd be complaining about not snapping up such talents for ourselves. Well, we've gotten the deal done. He looks to have the makings of a star, and clearly has many of the attributes we are missing. He's got pace, power and seems willing to run at people. Of course he'll need time to adapt, and his performances will ebb and flow while he does - just like Memphis. He's our player now, so we should support him fully, trust the club and maintain belief that he'll prove to be an astute acquisition.

I wonder if he will play LW with Memphis as the 10 or whether Rooney drops to the 10 and he plays 9. Or will he be on the bench.

Man Utd are Kung Fu Fighting
Martial is fast as lightning
In fact, he's a little bit frightening
He scores with expert timing

Lets get it going people.

I suspect it's a case of getting him before the other big clubs show a major interest. Anyway good luck to the lad. Let's be patient with him.

-----------Martial--------
Memphis--Rooney---Mata

I'd imagine

I wonder if Van Gaal or the club will put out a statement regarding the complete ridiculousness of this deal.

We need world class players not squad players, if none are available then it obviously makes sense to buy world class potential. He will have plenty of games to develop, I like the risk, the downside is that we probably aren't strong enough to challenge this season but then with talented young players and a manager who likes to work with youth you never know, the small squad will be an advantage assuming we don't have an injury crisis as more attention can be given to each player.

I would have preferred him to have had a different number before getting the #9 shirt.

2 other clubs were in for him. 1 definitely being Chelsea and the other barca it seems. Monaco were adamant on not selling him though. Things changed when they lost the qualifier and we made an offer they couldn't refuse.

I'm excited. We really needed competition and variety for Rooney.

Don't get the negativity earlier in this thread, and somehow someone managed to bring LVG bashing into this. Those who haven't heard of him clearly haven't played FM in the past three years!

This must have been the striker that LVG referred to a couple of weeks. Surely surprised everyone, surprised at the relatively short contract which has been signed, would have thought a longer term deal. Will he be getting loads of opportunities immediately?

Seems a good player. Always happy when we invest in youth, although slightly worried about the numbers and sincerely hope it doesn't restrict us in future when genuine world class talent is available.

I sincerely doubt it, with the kind of money the Premier League makes these days, and United in particular.

The only thing this will restrict is the moral high ground of some around here. Well, perhaps...

Yeah, but we don't know how serious they were. Judging by folk who know a bit about him, he'll be sensational in a couple seasons, imagine his asking price and the number of clubs queuing up for his signature. But anyway can't wait to see him play despite knowing next to nothing about him!

Has Van Gaal even seen him play?

Can honestly say I've only ever heard of him once or twice before yesterday.

He'll probably make his debut against Liverpool at Old Trafford. Not too shabby.

He's a monster in the last few FIFA games too, used to always sign him in FIFA13 career.

Chelsea had a 40mil bid rejected I read but yeah, agree with you totally.

Football is a universal language and he'll get on just fine. And no, we won't be asking schneiderlin to help out ad it's the responsibility of the whole club.
lmao, the most diplomatic responses in FM, otherwise the signed player gets unhappy
