I think he'll become a great player for us. New Henry, new Bellion, why not the new Saha without the injuries(hopefully) and higher potential?

There's no way to see this except as a very expensive gamble..

Still, if anything can apply a cattle prod to the arse of Louis Van Gaal's United, it's the purchase of a great, young player. Let's hope he energizes the entire team, or at least gives bored fans something to be excited about.

Looking forward to watching him.

Welcome to OT.The expectations will be high .Hope he can live up to it.

We paid a bit more than I'd like (though I know it's not my money so who cares) but there's nothing better than buying youngsters with massive potential and hopefully watching them flourish. Our scouts, notably David Friio I think, must see something fantastic in this kid to part with so much money so early in his career.

or else we just panicked and bought some random guy with a lot of pace

FYI: Jorge Mendes had no involvement in the transfer.

I'd rather sign nobody, than sing a nobody.

Is he going to help us win the title this season or next? Probably not.

I'm sceptical.

He isn't a nobody at all and yes, he will play a part both seasons. Whether that results in us winning the league is another thing.

He's clearly not a nobody though, he's been playing regularly for Monaco and he's been called up to the French squad. He's a rising star, not some lower league unknown.

Whether he 'wins' us the league this year or not is irrelevant. We've got him for the long term.

AS Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev admits they can't believe their luck over the price Manchester United paid for Anthony Martial.

Martial will sign for United today for a fee rising to €80 million.

"It's a unique proposition. This kind of price is normally reserved for players like Luis Suárez and Neymar, two of the best players in the world. But English football is clearly on a different level than the French and United wants to tap its financial power," said Vasilyev.

"It is true that it is eighty million, but that's including bonuses. I will not tell you the exact figures, because he has not yet officially sold. Manchester United began last week to make proposals, but we have refused constantly. Thirty million when forty million, fifty million and then another seventy million including bonuses.

"Yes, Martial is one of the greatest talents in European football, has great potential and has recently been called up for the national team of France. But the deal can not be confirmed yet, so have a little patience please. The policy of our club is that if a player wants to leave and we receive a unique offer, we will cooperate. It was in this transfer case, like when Geoffrey Kondogbia went to Inter Milan."

Monaco Vice President reacts to Anthony Martial departure

Speaking on Monaco’s official website, Monaco Vice President Vadim Vasilyev had the following to say on Anthony Martial’s departure to Manchester United.

“We wished to keep him this season but Manchester United made an incredible offer that neither Anthony, nor AS Monaco, could refuse. Our project showcases many players and Anthony has proven his worth and potential on the pitch. Though this move was not planned, it shows the quality of the work undertaken by the technical staff but also that we were right to recruit him two years ago. We wish Anthony the best for the next chapter in his career.”

Interesting we didn't negotiate but seem to have just slapped a figure on the table.

Can the lad speak English?

Football is a universal language and he'll get on just fine. And no, we won't be asking schneiderlin to help out ad it's the responsibility of the whole club.
