Manchester United Sign Anthony Martial!

He will be here long after Van Gaal.

Als in fairness to Van Gaal he can be quite good with good young players.

If Martial plays and holds down the role of the #9, I can see the left side being a really productive attacking threat. He has a natural tendency to drift left, allowing Memphis and Rooney to attack the space that he vacates.

It would look so much better with Pedro on the right and Mata as AC, and Ramos instead of Blind....and Carrick instead of Schneiderlin

Martial's initial fee is 36M£ (Negotiated in euro so 50 M euros) :

+ 7,35M£ (10M euros) If he plays more than 25 games (I don't know what means a game, if he plays full games or 1 minute)
+ 7,35M£ (10M euros) The moment he will reach the 10 caps with French National team (He can play twice this week for France)
+ 7,35M£ (10M euros) If he finishes in the top 20 of the Ballon d'or in the next 4 years.

Two things on the fee only.

Euro has dropped very deep recently meaning that the exchange rates are in favor of British when it comes to change. Unfortunately, all has been done in Euro and then converted in £

The initial fee for him was a bit overated to me. I won't throw a sum just to put one, but I guess that for 30M£ I would say ok. The bug here, are the two easy bonuses that will be given at Monaco. This is very reachable by Martial, meaning that the REAL fee paid by United for him would be 50M£

He'll probably cost us the full amount because those bonuses are well with in his reach if he turns out half decent. Crazy monies for a teenager...which ever way you look at it.

Just watched some more recent clips of him on youtube. He's proper strong, isn't he? He's also rapid, with good close control and is pretty good at holding up the ball. He does need to improve his decision making, but I guess that will come with experience. Just feel he keeps the ball for too long, at times, when he can just play a simple pass. Looks really promising, though, and seems he has the physical attributes to settle into the EPL pretty quick.

Can definitely see the Welbeck comparisons, though. I mean, Welbeck, although he didn't have the best goalscoring record for us, almost always was a constant menace for the opposition, especially in the big games i.e. Real Madrid, Bayern. If Martial can replicate those kind of performances added with goals, then he'll be worth every penny, in my opinion. Can't wait to see him get started.

He looks a lot better than Welbeck to me.

It's just boring mate it is honestly boring to read discussion on his fee. But I won't read this thread as that is inevitably going to be your response

I won't bother respond then, as you won't read it.:smirk:

I generally agree, but I can't help but find this fee so bizarre that it's worthy of comment / discussion.

Alright smarty pants! But it isn't going to change the fact. I'm all for discussing the player but the fee is now irrelevant

Fair enough - I'm sure once footy starts again we'll be able to do that. But as soon as he is revealed not to instantly be the new Messi, you can bet that the fee will quickly raise its head again!

He is already married I think. Good old Tony Marshall.

His son's name is Mydadshallbebetterthanney.

If Martial were White would he be compared to Welbeck?
I don't see him falling down due to terrible balance or scoffing shots in his videos

As for Ed Woodward, the French newspaper say the CEO wanted to sign him next year, but was forced to go after him this year because the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea were all interested.

The club has reportedly been following Martial for five years now, and Woodward fell in the love with the striker.
Panic buy, like.
Kebabs are well known and liked in France too.
Manchester kebabs are a breed apart, though.

Was coming to say the same thing. him and Welbeck physically look alike but their playing style is not the same at all.

If he was a white Frenchman then the comparison would be Cantona. That's the pattern I've seen developing.

This Thursdays Football Weekly didn't make for the most reassuring of listens - Philipe Auclair really ramping up just how crazy the deal is.

Also came out with the stat that he's only ever completed 90 minutes for Monaco 5 times...

He's been identified by our scouts as a potential world beater and that's good enough for me.

Call me out on this if you please; but martial will start predominantly on the right instead of Mata.

I think this will happen because our central striker needs to be comfortable drifting to both the left and right hand side of the field whenever one of Memphis or Our future RW cuts in.

Martial needs practice overlapping to the right so, im going to say that for this season at least he will be starting on the right sinse his ability on the left is already superior.

This might be the reason we didnt go for a RW yet; because we have much more problems to solve & players to settle rather than buying a player purely to win the title (like bale or griezmann).

I think alot of our fans have to be patient. You dont hire a manager like van gaal to win a trophy for a year or two and leave; you bring him in to dominate the leagye for 10 years straight.

I don't know if this was posted

He has pace and he can play down the middle. That is very insightful from Henry...Nevertheless, for a player that played only 52 professional game, we really do look ridiculous for paying such amount. However, it is a gamble and if he lives up to expectation, it will obviously be a great move for United.

After what happened to Januzaj, it is not easy to predict a player's future. If Madrid payed £59m for Januzaj after the season he had with Moyes, Madrid will look pretty ignorant right now. After all is said and done, hopefully, Martial career is more consistently good than Januzaj.

I think januzaj's loan to dortmund is a masterstroke. He isnt a winger anymore; he is either an AM or a CF and for alk his positioninf; what he lacks is pace.

Having to go to the fastest footballing club, the arsenal of Germany can only do him good.

Fantastic loan IMO.

I think it is a great loan aswell. If he can follow De Bryune footstep after he left Chelsea, we will have a player to look out for in the future.

I've read better assessments of Martial from caf members (@JPRouve) than what Henry kept repeating. Seriously it is one thing to have had a brilliant footballing career and get paid millions to be a pundit and another to do the job efficiently.

I've just watched the Monaco v Valencia CL qualifier to get an idea of what Martial is like.

From what I can tell, he looks like a strong, pacey, extremely direct and technical target-man. He was also a threat in the air. His most impressive quality is the pace of his close dribbling. He's not a kick and run merchant. He always has the ball under his control even when he's running quickly. I can definitely see where the Henry comparisons come from. Similar quick feet and upper body strength. I didn't see much evidence of creativity, though.

I couldn't really tell much more than that, but he does looks like he could bring a lot of things the side is currently missing.

Looking at the way that LvG originally intended to use Depay as a strong and pacey #10, it wouldn't surprise me if he has the same idea about Martial. I hope not, though. I was quite impressed by what he brought to the striker role.

Can he be a Ballon D'Or winner? No idea, but I didn't see anything to make me think he was a clogger.

For me, depay was used as number 10 not because that is his position but because he wouls most likely end up there when cutting in from the left.

This is why i thibk martial will start on the right; because that is his weakness before slowly movinf tk the centre and becoming a forward who can overlap the cutting in of our wingers.

"Providing Van Gaal's system lets him".. So pretty much, that is a nope.

For me, it isn't just about what the fee was in terms of dollars spent, it is about what it represents. I have no idea how anyone can say that this isn't an incredibly risky transfer, even for the money down right now. This guy is still a very very raw commodity and has just as much chance of not working out as it does working the full fee. I remember watching that game against Arsenal and thinking that he was very raw back then. I am not sure what he is like now.

I think we should all get behind him whatever the circumstance but I honestly don't know how people can just ignore that the weight of expectation on him is huge. Completely needless for a club of our magnitude to put him in a situation like this. Almost dangerous really.
