This is a massive risk..and for the fee involved, this will either be regarded as a big disaster or brillaint coup..dont think they can be any middle ground...The pressure the kid will be under..If Rooney gets injured, say for example in October, then he has to lead the line against those massive teams...Lets hope for ur sakes that the roll of the dice favours us for once..but Im very cautious about this one.

Agree but I'd rather roll the dice on this one than bring in the cast offs from Real or Barca that they don't want, with the player equally not wanting to be here. Lessons learnt from ADM.....
Significant risk..its the pressure that the kid will be under that scares me..even if the talent is there, will he be able to cope with that?
The fact that this transfer seems so knee jerk worries me - he'll do very well to live up to his price tag.
He may well be better than Welbeck, but the have a similar style of play, in my opinion.

Doesn't seem to be anything knee jerk about it. Club have tracked him for five years, and when it became apparent that other big clubs would be moving for him in the next 12 months, we made sure we got a deal done. Seem decisive more than anything.
Watched him for over a year, and bid four times to secure him as we knew other clubs were circling, much as the timing suggests knee jerk I don't think it actually was.
Video of his performance against PSG from the other week. Really worth a watch. He really does seems to have all the raw materials needed to be a top top striker. Very fast, incredibly strong, good touch, can dribble, can hold the ball up, the more I watch of him the more I see why we wanted him to badly. What I like most about his performance here is he looks very strong against Luiz/Silva, he doesn't get physically out muscled at all. I also like the way he's immediately looking to turn and run at the defence the minuet he gets the ball. We've really missed that from our strikers for a number of years.
@Sam Yep, saw that yesterday. Without getting into a discussion of what we needed in terms of proven quality, he looks from the few clips I've seen to have a lot of the attributes we really need from a striker even if he's just a kid. Of course he has to translate that into real quality performances for us over the years. But I find what he seems to bring to the table exciting.
This has been planned meticulously, there's a decent chance this kid will be brilliant, but we've seen it so many times where potentials go unfulfilled. Seems like we wouldn't have got him without this sort of offer though, and in hindsight I'd rather have him than Pedro, more exciting at least.
True, we could potentially have got Greizmann, Cavani or someone like that for a little bit more money is my gripe with it.
I still really dont get the Cavanni hype. I ask myself all the time, how is this guy considered a big name?
Never heard of him before United signed him. Just saw the clip, he seems to be strong for a young player but i felt he gave away the ball almost everytime, picked the wrong passes and was dispossessed quite easily. Not complaining but the video doesn't show his best side to feel so confident about him
He's not a 19 year old with 50 senior appearances to his name all the same! Cavani or not there are a lot of proven players we could have got around the £40m range

I watched that game and notice that aswell. It is very Suarez-esque. Even though it seems he gets many turn overs, that selfishness is what greatly separate him from his selfless counterpart in Welbeck. It would definetly benefit his game if he continues to be rapacious, but also have a better judgement towards when to lay the ball off to his teammate. Considering that Van Gaal did not like that attribute with Di Maria(who was outstanding against Monaco), hopefully Van Gaal does not try to alter his game too much, that Martial will lose self belief in his footballing ability.

Why knee jerk? LvG has already said he had been watching him for a year, but like Depay, other top clubs were after him and made a move, so we went for it. Maybe earlier than expected, but probably worth a risk.

Didn't see much action at all, felt like less than 10 touches. The game was very scrappy when he came on. Valbuena scored a freekick but even before that France were content just to try to pass it around in midfield.
He didn't really do much. Got the ball a few times, passed it on a few times, lost it a few times. Nothing really remarkable. Initially played upfront but then Giroud came on for the last 5-10 min which is when he went to the left wing. The one thing I feel about his game is that there is a maturity to it. He doesn't seem the flashy guy who wants to take on everybody with tricks and what not. More sensible in his play I feel. Haven't seen him all that much though. Long way to go.
There is something about growing your own than buying ready made. Despite where CR7 now plays his football, I loved watching him grow into something special in a Utd shirt. This is historically the Utd way.....

Yeah I know, its satisfying buying a young player and watching their performances inflate their "value"... We've already paid massively over the odds for his current status, so he'll have to do a lot to even justify the fee so this isn't quite the same as Ronaldo, who was bought for a far more modest fee.
Trouble is, he's constantly trying to run at and beat defenders and, due to the high risk nature of that, more often than not it ends in him losing possession. Is LVG really going to allow him to play like that, or will he be coached into playing safe passes back to Shaw?

In this video he looks like a raw prospect you shell out 10m pounds for and grow for two or three years and then unleash. Sorry, but all I see is a very raw young player, I have seen nothing on youtube so far that tells me this guy is a 30m pound signing to go into the first team.

He does look raw (going by clips I've seen) without a doubt despite seeming an existing talent. Hopefully over the next 3-4 years he proves his worth.
