Manchester United - January transfer window 2015 (twitter blacklist applies)

Apparently LVG said he doesn't need any more defenders.

I like his comments, fills the team and the players with belief. Belief they can succeed and belief that the manager believe in them.

There isn't really any details on how LvG convinced him, just the handshake mentioned again. I didn't know Roma fans had been booing him though.

That Strootman thing is a rehash from articles printed a few weeks ago.

Clyne would solve our full back problems so we should make a big effort to sign him in January, a CB would be great but will probably have to wait until the summer as will the inevitable move for Strootman.

We desperately lack pace in the final third as well so maybe we could try a loan with option to buy for someone like Shaqiri or Lucas Moura but both would probably only be available on permanent deals. Would really like to see us sign some top young talent as well but it's probably going to be a quiet window I would imagine.

I'd rather Vidic didn't come back tbh. Need a clean break and all that.

Don't think Strootman is likely to sign in January. He' only back from a serious knee injury and hasn't played well in his return performances. Would make sense to monitor his performances in the second half of the season to see if he can regain fitness and to assess whether he can still play in his preferred way. Cruciate injuries can radically alter the way a player performs.

Hope it's true.
He's been dog awful in Italy, he's finished as a top player and in case you have forgotten he abandoned us last season. We may be having issues, but he will make it worse. We need to move forwards and aim higher, not bring back an ex captain who is past it.

LVG really is baffling at times.
Anyway defenders, just defenders ffs.

We're not going to sign a top defender in January, but we do need to add three things to our defence before the end of the season: 1- experience 2- leadership 3- extra cover, and Vidic fits on all three accounts to try and help keep the momentum going for this season.

Our defenders are too young right now. I don't care a bit about how Vidic is playing right now with Inter, because most players struggle when they switch teams. Style of play, league, ... could all affect the player's performance, but we've had Vidic for quite some time and we know he fits us.

As for Vidic is past it I'd say he still has a lot to give, try not to make the Moyes' disaster of a season cloud your judgement.

Oh, and in case you have forgotten, Vidic didn't "abandon us", he just didn't want to spend the rest of his career trying to emulate Phil Jagielka.

Vidic on loan until end of season maybe?

I'm trying to think of decent cover we could bring in short-term, and there's not a lot. Will be summer before we can buy big

I'm curious to know, who we are going to try to offload. Maybe some surprises.

Not to beat a dead horse, but do I hope Tom does us a favor and lowers his wage demands so that some club (Everton ?) can make a decent offer to buy him in January for £4-5 million. Otherwise we'll lose him for free in the summer. Maybe Zaha for £10-12 million too ? He doesn't seem to be an LVG type of player, good luck to the lad and let him continue with his career at a club where he'll be an important player while he still had some transfer value. Vermijl ? Ben Amos ? Those two are stagnating at United and would do look elsewhere for the sake of their careers and first team opportunities. Other than that, I don't suppose anyone else will be let go. Young and Valencia have done well in limited squad roles, so it wouldn't make much sense to offload them just yet. A couple of the young ones might leave on loan, but that'll probably be it.

I think Cleverley's loan to Villa is for the whole season so there is no way for us to get any money for him now, same with Zaha, and I doubt Palace could commit to £10M without securing PL football.

The main one we'll be trying to get off the books in January will be Anderson to save on his wages for the last six months of his contract.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Michael Keane go permanently either as his loan at Burnley expires in Jan.

If Leicester do terminate the loan of Nick Powell as well, I'm not sure where that will leave his future.

I'm just hoping Villa are willing to stump up some cash in January to beat off any potential interest in the summer and make the loan permanent.

Has he done anything to convince Villa that they should part with cash to sign him? I confess, I hardly watch Villa.

Its a 6 month loan with a right to purchase for 8M. Cleverley with be back if they dont pay.

It's a season long loan, where did you see that it was a 6 months loan ?

It's a season long loan, the option to buy just becomes active in January.
According to the wisdom of wikipedia, they bid £8 but were put off by his wage demands. Then came back in with the loan. Either Tom will have to lower his demands or he will be hoping someone like Everton come in and can afford his wages.

They must have been some mental wage demands if they weren't even prepared to pay £8 for him!
