Manchester United - January transfer window 2015 (twitter blacklist applies)

All of the papers seem to be going with us planning to spend massively again and following the Real Madrid model of having a star name in every position. Hummels, Clyne, Strootman, Dani Alves, Godin and Robben the names mentioned more than once as well as De Gea and Carrick getting new contracts and Valdes replacing Lindegaard.

Most of the papers running with this story.Looks like there may have been a briefing.

They've apparently been informally briefing for a few weeks that that's the case. I presume they've set the story free this evening, so to speak.

Maybe Strootman and Godin with winter ?

No chance we're getting Godin, I can see him staying at Atletico.

He has a release clause of £28.5 million, for a world class CB that's never injured I'm sure we can part with that money to activate the clause.

He's a good player, but he's not world class.

Hmmm those 4 would improve us a lot. Though if we sign Godin and Hummels, what does that mean for Smalling/Rojo/Jones and Evans. At least 2 would have to leave.

I can only see us getting 1 CB and a RB.

Would be good. Article mentions Robben too, which would obviously be a lot harder but I wouldn't rule it out. I think Van Gaal is determined to win the champions league one last time before he retires, and so that's why he is willing to spend so much to accelerate the process of getting to the top. Robben, Godin would all be relatively short term signings, but would improve us immensely and give us a much better chance at winning the champions league. Wouldn't just be those, as we'd have other long term signings that he already made and is looking to make, like Herrera, Blind, Shaw, Rojo, Strootman, Clyne... Imagine this pretty much, either next season or the year after (ignoring all the squad options we'd have as well):

De Gea
Rafael/Clyne Godin Rojo Shaw
Blind
Herrera Strootman
Robben Rooney Di Maria

I hope 1, maybe 2 leave anyways. Evans I don't think will be here next season, whereas the question mark is very much there over Jones and Smalling. Smalling has done well in recent weeks but all it takes is one injury to put him back where he started. Don't think we'll sign both Hummels and Godin though. More likely just the one.

All of the journos are running with the story, but bar Strootman I reckon they are mostly guessing as each writer sprinkles a slightly different list. I think it will only be 1 CB as LvG will get more out of at least a couple of our injury plagued defenders over the rest of the season, and I also think at least one fast attacking player will be added but not Robben or Bale.

Would settle for Bale Strootman and a right back (Coleman) would be my choice. I know Clyne can cove both sides but usually we'd have Shaw, Blind and Rojo who can cover left back area.

Cover for the fullback positions is essentially all were desperate for.

A player like Strootman doesn't make any sense at all to me, we would have to change the system again and be very reliant on his fitness for that system to work. As it stands we're very adaptable, we're starting a flat back four usually but watch against Stoke, there are moments we switch to a back 3 as Carrick dropped in the centre and Young and Valencia take up wing back roles, then before you know it were back into a clear diamond, it's crazy to watch.

An upgrade on Rojo and Blackett for left side of the central defense.
Right back position - either a starter or a capable deputy to Rafael.
A top quality winger/wide player.
A striker in the class and of similar age as Lewandoski.

An upgrade on Fellaini would be prefered, though not an immediate need. I feel in Carrick, Blind, Fellani, Mata, Herrera, Lingard and Periera - we have enough options for a 3 or 4 man midfield that LVG likes.

Not sure we will do much business in this upcoming window, regarding players coming in. More likely to see players going out and waiting till the summer.

This

We'll probably splash another 150m in the summer but we've our targets and will only sign one of them if they're available in January (I think Woodward has said that)

And that's the best plan because we all know the January transfer window is a tricky case and a big club pays another 10m for Player X on his actually price tag.....because the other clubs know Club X is desperate........if a club would have done his homework in the summer then you don't need to buy five months later

Be nice to have the first 11 reinforced with some top quality.
Its not going to happen though.

The article metions the summer. We'll dip in January if any of the said players becomes available.

I would bet on no signing in January.LVG certain not the type of manager that want to disrupt his squad mid-season.

Obviously we'll sign new players in the summer but I doubt we even finalised the list of targets let alone let the journalists know. There might be certain elements of truth but a lot of things will change from now until summer.

And also couldn't do better than being our joint top scorer. Sell him, he's stinking the place out.

Eww what a loser. Send him packing.

4 signings in January window? Are somebody having a laugh?
Festive muppetness is upon is.
I very much doubt we can prize any CL playing players away from third respective clubs, release clause or not. Our injury list will have recovered by then

Nah, tis obvious why we have briefed the papers with this info. It is to keep the fans quiet when we buy no-one in the winter window. They key to all the articles is.....summer.

Surprise no winger is mentioned anywhere so far.

Reus was mentioned speculatively in the Times article.

"United could also join the race for Marco Reus, the Germany attacking midfielder and Hummels’ Dortmund team-mate, whose €25 million (£19.8 million) release clause kicks in next year. Dortmund’s shock position at the bottom of the Bundesliga may increase United’s prospects of prising Hummels and/or Reus away from the German club."

I agree, also out of the players mentioned I think Clyne would be the only one close to available in January, the rest will still be involved in the CL knock-out stages and I don't think they'll be too eager to leave.
