Manchester United - January Ins and Outs

I bet a lot of peoples opinions have changed about getting rid of Rojo now? Apart from that horrendous tackle on Sunday he has been brilliant lately in the absence of Smalling and Bailly.

No shortage of quality CBs available it seems. Would love to have Alderverald but it doesn't seem likely.

Out of realistic options, van Dijk would be my first choice, followed by Fonte.

Seen something on twitter last night about Alderweireld. A few people were checking a report that he might have a release clause of 25 or 30 mil. Doesn't seem to make sense with Levy being at Spurs as he isn't a tube. If theres one CB I would want from the premiership it would be him 100%.

I've always been a big fan of Rojo at CB, but... even I would need to see him keep on this upward curve for a while before I'd consider him capable of being first choice for a title winning team.

If Alderweireld is available for £30m we should be all over that.

Him and Bailly together would be brilliant.

We'll see about this so called clause, I'd imagine if he was available for £30m it might because Spurs didn't make the top 4.

Well, its being reported

Ah I hadn't read it anywhere and was picturing you sitting in a TV studio with you mobile phone a la:

There is no such clause, not for Alderweireld nor any Spurs player. Levy doesn't accept such clauses, so if a player insists on having one then they won't be signing for Spurs in the first place.

IMO any club that does accept this type of clause is foolish ... not least because it's an immediate sign that the player concerned will be looking to move on asap.

You can't guarantee that but I do think its highly unlikely there is a clause.

Didn't know that Southampton have been leaving Fonte out of Europa League fixtures to prevent him being cup tied. With Mendes his agent then you'd think that if Mourinho wants him in January it will be a very straightforward deal.

We need to loan put a couple of players. TFM is basically between the first team and reserves and he doesn't play for either, he pretty much lost half of season for nothing. Same goes for Depay, he needs to play, but he's not going to make the team with the options available for his position.

Who we need to get rid of this January:
Memphis, schneiderlin, Fellaini, Schweinsteiger
Tfm on loan.

Next summer: Rojo, young.

Possibly Darmian, though he can be a decent squad player. Jones and smalling can stay as squad players too.

Then to bring in (by the end of next summer)
Center back to start next to bbailly(Gimenez?)
Holding midfielder to start in front of carrick (Paredes?)
Griezmann (since it looks like he'll be the main target so might as well include him)

Gives us:
Martial Griezmann Mkhitaryan
Pogba Mata
Paredes
Shaw Gimenez Bailly Valencia
De Gea

Rashford Ibrahimovic Lingard
Herrera Rooney
Carrick
Blind Jones Smalling Darmian
Romero

Pereira and TFM to rotate in there too and complete the squad. Dont think I'm missing anyone?

Schneids was one of the best midfielders in the prem for years I honestly believe that. Seemed destined for a top club. Really disappointed in that. Hope we make some of the money back

Schneiderlin strikes me as the sort of player who will thrive playing under less pressure and Depay too if he knuckles down can be a huge hit at a slightly smaller club where manager puts arm around him. He strikes me as a Shaqiri/Arnautovic type player at a smaller club once he loses weight.

Problem with these type of players is that they lack the mentality to play for a big club, do poor and then thrive at a smaller club and everyone starts blaming United for letting a talented player go and not giving them a chance.

These players are better at being a big fish in a small pond. They're not made for the cut throat business of elite football.

Compare their impact to someone like Bailly who just has that aura of I am made to play for a club like United. You either have it or you don't. They don't and Mourinho isn't the type of manager who can cultivate that mentality and turn weaklings into champions, it just isn't his style as a manager to do that.

You're not far short of what I think in regards to selling/buying but I think Rooney still goes and we will not use Griezmann as the striker, he'll be in behind Ibra. I also think there might be more of a fullback shake up. That first line-up has zero chance of happening under Jose IMO, maybe under Klopp or Pep but it's so devoid of size and defensive quality for Jose to ever consider.

Yeah the size is definitely an issue there. I guess if you put ibra top, griezmann in the hole you can put rooney top in the second lineup and mata in midfield. Mata would obviously still get loads of games and would rotate in and around the starters, same as herrera, just not be automatic picks. Also that holding midfielder obviously wont be Paredes but someone like that. If mourinho finds someone with more size in that position then all the better for him.

You just know he will go for N'Zonzi.

With Rooney I think he goes and is replaced by Griezmann or there's no Griezmann, we can't keep piling up 250k players with no CL, even Real Madrid don't do that, I also think Rooney is past it regardless of a couple of decent performances, and he is best now playing off the left where he gets more time, he's pointless as a #9 IMO. I'd say Mata competes for the RW spot mostly as things progress and that's fine as he benefits from the extra space in the channel rather than as a #10. Herrera will find game time more limited if Jose continues with 4-2-3-1 in the bulk of games and I do think the lack of quality back-up on the WF positions is a problem in that secondary line-up. We also should be thinking of the fact a 36 year old leading the line is kinda daft, especially since Jose clearly doesn't care for any of the other strikers to share the role.

We shouldn't be loaning him. Some desperate club like Sunderland would probably pay us 15 million.

I'd love it if we signed Matuidi and Fonte.

Or do a swap deal... Smalling for Van Dijk.

How much do they want to take him off our hands, whatever it is just pay it! I will personally gift wrap him and take him to london!
Good luck wrapping around that hair of his. I find it hard enough wrapping round sharp edges

I do believe that a few of the players will be sold or loaned out in January, but I don't think that we will buy a lot, maybe one defender.

It is obviously that Mourinho don't believe in some of the lads. Young, Memphis and Schneiderlin, and Schweinsteiger won't get a lot of playing time. I guess that Memphis won't be sold, probably loaned out. He is young, with good loan he can at least increase price, or if we are lucky he can find form and confidence and come back next year.

Young will probably be sold, and it would be OK to let him go. He gave us what he had, he is not young, and he certainly have quality for a couple of seasons in a team like Watford.

I am not sure on the other hand, that we will sell both Schweini and Schneiderlin. If we do, we would be short in numbers if something happens with Carrick, Pogba or Hererra. One of them will go probably, but I doubt both.

Not sure what is going on with Fosu. He was not part of the squad even when we have been short in numbers at the back. Also, his last few subs have been in the midfield, although for a minute or two, and on the right. Maybe loaning him out in January is not out of question, as he certainly lost this couple of months by not playing any football.

If we will buy anyone, I think we will buy central defender. Lindelof maybe, but I am not sure, as all those rumors about players based in Portugal finish the same. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about some new Bailly on January 2nd and see him in our shirt on 3rd.

If there's truth in those rumours regarding Van Dijk's release clause being just £26 million, than we can't miss out on that opportunity.

My problem is that we'd still lack leadership at the back. Same if we sign that Lindlof guy. Bailly is our best CB and natural partner for whoever we sign. I think it needs to be somebody reliable with experience and leadership.
