Manchester City under Pep Guardiola | Pep on City v Liverpool ref: "He likes to be special"

Can't be right. I was assured by so many that Pep and City were 'scary' and 'frightening'. That was before a ball had even been kicked.

10 wins out of 10 at the start of the season and things escalated to a whole new level.

Thing is, all it will take is some new summer signings in 2017 and those words 'scary' and 'frightening' will be right back in again.

Savage said a moment ago that if Mourinho had overseen that first half performance he'd be getting absolutely torn apart, and he's right.

Pep is good but can he do on a rainy day in Lei...

Apparently no!

Not sure what's more shocking, how poor City have been this year, especially at home, but also isolated appalling away performances like today.

Or that we're 9 points off them!!

Amazing in hindsight the importance given to that Derby at Old Trafford. Winning feck all (both sides) at this rate.

This Yaya sub is peak Pep. Taking off a goalscorer with pace to slow down the attack with a player who plays his best when arriving late into the box

They would be about the same level considering their form in the beginning.
I'm not sure if I got you right but if you mean that they would be around "bottom top 4" level in these two leagues as well I agree.

Claudio Bravo is so fecking hilarious. Worst regular goalkeeper in the Prem. This one is completely on Pep.

Starting to think Mourinho has improved United more than Guardiola's improved City.

Before Guardiola City were good going forward and weak at the back, and still are. Before Mourinho United were dull and reactive, and that has definitely been resolved.

We can still be pretty reactive.

Coming into the season I did not think they had too many holes in their squad to win the title. But, I thought we would win the title and that Chelsea will not make CL places. So I obviously know nothing.

From when I heard about him playing Clichy and Sagna as hybrid fullbacks/central midfielders I did start to question him. Just sounded like madness that waited to bite him back. I've always rated Pep, but he does seem to have a tendency to overcomplicate things.

I can't wait to see Pep's post match interview, he will be even more condescending and bitchy than normal.

First time we've seen him in a competitive league without a world-class team. Not looking so food is it..

Is he really?

(Because I personally believe he is unproven).
Are you serious? Unproven? He won 14 trophies in his first 4 years alone in management and he didn't exactly take over a Barcelona team that was sweeping all before them, they were in turmoil. If Pep is unproven then who in Gods name is proven?

I think he means in a competitive league like the PL where there are no clear top teams like the Bundesliga and La Liga.

Barcelona did sweep all before them though. It's like saying Conte took a side who finished 7th to first when, in reality, it was a top side suffering an indifferent season.
This City side are in much worse shape than the Barca side Pep took over

Hopefully the press really get stuck into them, just as they would if United were in this situation.

La Liga was highly competitive before he took over Barcelona, he turned them into the clear top dogs. They had finished 18 points behind Madrid the year before Pep. It's typical of modern football these days, players and managers written off after months at a new club/league. I hope to feck he fails spectacularly but I doubt it. He knows now he has to adjust his style.

Pep's style is outdated. Been shown up in an embarrassing fashion several times with Bayern against the Spanish teams. Said it before he even managed a game for City, he's going to struggle in the EPL.

Nah, we've seen in in two competitive leagues. It's just both times his teams had like 11 of the 30 best players in the world. This time, he doesn't

Does he though? He was shown up in the CL by a Spanish team then made the same mistake a second and third year in a row. He himself said he wouldn't change his style.

Oh absolutely. I'm intrigued to see how he changes his style.

Well if he doesn't know now he will never know. I feel he always imagined his style would work in any league, any environment, total confidence in his ability. But now he surely realises you need a different way for the Premier League.

Pep post match vs Leicester: I am not here to change your football.

Or something similar.

Will be an epically odd interview, for sure.

If any league is going to give you a rude awakening about probably being too smart for your own good it's this one, players feed off the emotion of the crowd and play with so much adrenaline here that momentum changes things very quickly. The physicality of the league also makes those who rest a week and play no midweek games thrive more. Look at Leicester last year and now Chelsea and Liverpool.

He's made a huge mistake with the Hart/Bravo situation and doesn't seem to have improved Stones at all, it's a test for his coaching and man management and probably one he will rise to eventually. So far I don't think there's ever been a single manager who hasn't been found out at one time or another in this league. The key is adapting.

You just looked at wikipedia and conpletely ignored the circumstances. Pep took over barcelona when the spine of the team had just won the Euros, and had one of the greatest generations in history wither entering or in the middle of their prime, including the 3rd greatest player of all time. The year before they were a mess, with a manager that had lost the plot and the locker room, and a locker room in shambles. Incidentally, that same stuff happened to real madrid that season, too.
