Manager draft

Matthäus will be a happy chap when he learns about being reunited with Klinsmann.
Well exactly. Klinsi was a big reason why Matthaus was able to rattle in the goal so heavily both in Serie A and internationally.

Yeah exactly, that's what I meant ;). Excellent pick, I also love you for posting the goal celebration against Holland in '90, my favourite Klinsmann goal of all time.

At the age of 17 young José Augusto Pinto de Almeida burst onto the scene after scoring a hat-trick in his first season against Sporting. While still playing for Barreirense, he made himself a name as one of the most dangerous forwards in the league. Despite being sought after by many big clubs, he remained loyal for another 4 years until Barreirense got relegated.
In 1959 Benfica convinced him to join the club with a blank cheque - money that he desperately needed to support his sick father. Overwhelmed by this support, SLB became a affair of his heart and soon he convinced the fans that this investment would be worthwhile. Just 20 days after the transfer, in his second game, he scored for the first time and many goals would follow. "O Garrincha português" (L´Equipe) became one of the best winger in the world and scored 174 times in 369 games till he retired after 11 seasons in 1970.

Mine as well, probably his best performance too.

Should have. What better way to upgrade later than screw up your twin manager's plans?
I'll be ok. I don't think that Klinsmann is a good pick for them though, I don't like Batistuta-Klinsmann pairing. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I reckon Klinsmann would be a great partner for almost anybody. Especially a goalsmith like Batistuta.

I thought you were referring to Matthaus's bid that Klinsmann wouldn't score 15 goals and their excellent relationships at the time

Roth was a big game player and had a knack of scoring important goals in massive games for Bayern Munich. He scored the only goal of the 1967 European Cup Winners' Cup Finalagainst Rangers in extra time, which was enough to give Bayern victory, and their first triumph in European competition. He opened the scoring in the 1975 European Cup Final win over Leeds United, a game in which Roth won the midfield battle against Billy Bremner. Roth scored for the third time in the final of a European competition, with his 57th minute strike against AS Saint-Étienne 1976 European Cup Final enough to give Bayern a 1–0 victory, and retain the European Cup for the third straight season.

Roth is one of the most decorated players inBayern Munich history and has been voted into their Hall of Fame.

Oh FFS. Great pick mate :(

Really looking forward to how you are going to line-up.

Great interview with the Bulle

http://www.merkur-online.de/sport/fc-bayern/franz-bulle-roth-kraft-muss-geburt-haben-1219525.html

(Poor Google English translation)

-A Bull-Roth myth is: have you ever shot up a goal net.

That's right. In Rapid Vienna was. The ball was in the angles above it, but the referee gave a goal. From the side you have not seen it, but we, who had a straight line to the ball, have recognized it clearly. It is then down to the gate and saw that the net was torn. Then the referee has the goal also recognized. I always say: It was a smooth penetration.

-And In Grünwalder You once shot down the stadium clock?

Brought down not. The clock still hangs there when the amateurs play there, I look on it. I had hit the table at which they had hung with a rod the game city, it was the clock. It has a little gescheppert.

-Uli Hoeness says: "I've always been attracted earlier Greaves in training me, because I knew that if, Bull 'is mad at me, then sweeps of me on the cinder track. The training was for me the struggle for survival. "Truth or exaggeration?

I think the Uli exaggerating a bit. Clear: It was important to train competitively. I can not pull the Fußerl five days and on the other hand hold on the sixth. And the training has certainly arrived executed more times, if you were irritated or was evil - and there was no yellow cards. But I never did the Uli hurt, and he has always played.

Still German at its core, aside from Dane Johnny Hansen, Bayern faced St Etienne at Hampden Park, as Maier, Beckenbauer, Hoeness and Muller remained. Industry triumphed over artistry as Roth scored. “Before every game, I ate two pieces of cake, although it was forbidden,” he said, of a dynasty built on teamwork and cake, the likes of which we are unlikely to see again.

Such a rebel

Thank you :) ive had more fun this draft than any other thanks to annah with the creativity, and joga with half my pool. Have to do more research and pick players I havent looked at before.

You are doing a great job man. Roth, Lerby in the midfield with that front trio, it really ticks every box.

@Jayvin

Has he? Another forward left for harms to get.. better one perhaps

D'oh! Hadn't even checked who had what or which manager they are meant to be. You are right, particularly with a clear Juve 80s theme.

I'm actually surprised at how many have gone the fantasy route here, trying to form new sides out of mangling various teams together. The teams these managers had were pretty fecking awesome, some of the all-time best (if not all of them) so the notion of breaking them up and playing cut and paste is mind-boggling to me. Stick to one and upgrade here and there, surely?

I'll be ok. I don't think that Klinsmann is a good pick for them though, I don't like Batistuta-Klinsmann pairing. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Sounds deadly to me. I was actually more worried about those two against Boris than Romario-Kalle against Viva.

I thought somebody would be upset with the Dida pick, was the only reason I picked him. :(

I've no idea why anyone would have picked him tbh and I'm pretty sure Luxemburgo managed better keepers. I assumed there was some fabulous (literally, as in fable-ous) story on how Milan sent him on loan to Corinthians and he suddenly turned into the second coming of Peter Schmeichel, single-handedly taking them to the CL final before making good use of a Luxemburgo top tip to stray off his line at penos.

It's actually a less creative theory than expecting someone to be upset to miss out on him.

Second coming of Schmeichel, ffs!

Come on posters here are going to exaggerate their player's level but it is nice to read more about the context of the player's performance and their relationship with a specific manager. You just have to take their supposed performance levels with a pinch of salt and read more into the interesting stories and anecdotes.

Exactly, instead we got "I hoped to upset someone". Poor form from Annah, I'm sure he can do better, even if it's Dida. Sorry, Dida (GK)

On topic re: write-ups, these have been remarkably good here and it may well be an upside from all those long boring hours waiting for yet another uncontested pick

@Rees blatantly must have stolen all that Tony Stark comparison with Lucho. Not that they all have to be penned by the managers themselves, since you do the research you may as well share! Brilliant, loved it.

And going back to Annah... Flavio Conceicao, who he admits he had never heard of. He wasn't a bad player, don't get me wrong, but I just never got the point with him, nor did I understand how he was a regular starter for Brazil, let alone Real. You know those players who are decent/good at a lot of things but nothing in particular stands out? He probably was far more important than you perceived when watching him, but there wasn't a single remarkable thing about him. Not one. In fact, he was the first player on the transfer list whenever I played CM2 as Real Madrid. I just didn't get him and probably never will.

Haha, same. Except it was CM 00/01 for me I think. Savio and Albert Celades were also shown the door ASAP.

Speaking of Conceicao's, anyone remember Sergio the Portuguese winger? I remember him being rated ridiculously highly in one early 2000's version of FIFA, I think he played well at the Euro's or something and moved to Inter. Then like so many players who moved to Inter around that time, he turned to crap.

Anyone gonna be around for a while? heading to bed now..not sure how quickly the next few picks will go. Don't think any of them can take who I want, but i dont want to post him up anyway. trying to keep some order here

if not, i'll be around in about 8 hours when i wake up.
