Well, EAP must have had something or the other figured out. I would have personally taken Van Basten and Redondo with those two Capello picks.

One, I'm a big fan of Maldini. One of my all time favourites. In one of the previous drafts, think even Garrincha could not better him. So I HAD to get him.

Second, if you look at the picks, most of the front lines are frighteningly superb. Don't think the defences would be that great. So if I had a great spine, thought I can get away with a slightly less spectacular forward..at least for the first round.

Might backfire spectacularly too!

Even if I don't pick up another CB, I consider them both to be "complete" centre backs which i prefer to the standard Stopper/Ball player dynamic.

Sometimes "ball playing" centre backs come with the assumption that they can't do the rock solid job of defending as well, that accusation can't really be levelled at either. They weren't exactly blood and thunder types but they had the whole game in their heads.
