Man Utd set to appoint Director of Football (when hell freezes over)

Ed Woodward didn’t think Toby A would improve our defence.

This guy only cares about getting top 4.

If we do he isn’t arsed what happens.

Look at the two CB signings José made. I can't blame Ed for not giving José more money to squander even though I agreed with José that a CB was just as urgent as a RW.

You're on another planet if you think a CB is this teams only problem. We've been outplayed by fecking Brighton.

This is the person you put the blame on?

Really?!

To be fair, there's enough wrong with the club at the moment that blame could be distributed any number of ways. Between the players, Jose, coaching staff, Ed...nobody's really absolved from fault. What's wrong IMO is blaming Ed because of the specific problem with the CB purchase.

One CB is not going to have any sort of tangible effect on a team that looks as disjointed at this. How is one CB going to change attacking play devoid of ideas, lack of movement, the opponents' ability to essentially ignore one side of the pitch, etc. etc.

This. It's flipping Brighton. Do we need half a billion spend to not get outplayed here?

Might have avoided conceding 3 times to Brighton though.

That's my point really.

We need new full-backs, we could probably do with another midfielder (or right side player) and (back-up) striker. But none of those should mean we play like fecking Stoke!

He's playing his two centre-back buys isn't he?

Yep. And he got them wrong and wanted to try correct it.

From Woodward’s point of view either correct it, or if you don’t trust the manger, get rid and give the players to somebody you think is good enough. In either case Woodward has done badly and has made his decisions based on how much money goes in his pals pockets. Posh British schoolboy ruining us from top down

Ay. We're losing because we have rubbish centre backs (who Mourinho bought). And Woodward, of course. Just, well, because...

Pity the fools that don't value coaching.

I'd say Woodward's decision not to throw unlimited funds at Mourinho is justified. Like the rest of us, Woodward must watch our shocking performances and wonder why Jose isn't getting more out of what he's got. He doesn't deserve another penny after coaching our team to play such an appalling style of football.

So he doesn’t think the manger is up to it but our players are? So why is the manager still here? No matter what side of the fence you’re on this man shouldn’t be running the club we’ve been in freefall since he has.

Then he should have been fired. If Woodward doesn't want to support the manager, hire someone he will support. It's not rocket science.

Mourinho should have been sacked at the end of last season. It's only inevitable given our trajectory.

Anyone that pops in and says we finished second can sod off. Anybody with eyes could see where this was going. Our football was enough.

Then fire Jose and get a manager in who you do trust. Doing nothing was just ridiculous and is a huge mistake that Woodward must accept the blame for.

I don't know what he thinks. I personally think another CB wouldn't have solved our problems. As poor as LibdelLi and Bailey have been, it's not like we are facing a top team.

Said it before, will say it again: do the right thing Ed.

Yes guys, we really needed Ed to make £200 million worth of new 'investment' to beat Brighton and Hove Albion. We didn't stand a chance otherwise.

Give me a break.

We've also bought a midfielder who is significantly worse than Herrera in Fred. Our board must look at the bloke in charge and wince at his signings.

Yep. Too early to say as he may yet deliver but I had my doubts about him at the start of the season.

The "100 mil for Varane" leak was so infuriating. Ed should either walk the talk or shut his trap.

Exactly!! People think signings will make everything better. I bet if Pogba was still at Juve and we were playing like this he’d be brought up on conversation as someone who can save us. Yet there he is after a World Cup win looking awful.

Off we had Maguire, Toby or Varane they’d look awful in this team right now. It’s a coaching issue.

Agreed. We should just be able to send out any old team and roll over the likes of Brighton. No need to invest in the squad. No need to buy better players.

Okay. So he should get rid of the manager? Doing nothing and expecting it to change is the definition of bad management

He should have got rid of him based off the amount of shite performances last season but it's understandable that he didn't given we finished 2nd in the league.

There shouldn't be a need to invest in the squad to beat Brighton. It's fecking Brighton.

Making good signings does effect the whole dynamic of the team tactics, confidence and competition for places.

Woodward should have backed the manager this window. We don't need an ex investment banker making footballing decisions and overruling the manager.

No, he shouldn't. We'd be doing nothing more than wasting more money. What Woodward should be doing is actively looking for someone to replace Mourinho.

Even with this squad, we should be beating fecking Brighton. It's Brighton, not Barcelona.

Even if you put the blame on Mourinho, Woodward is the man who hired him (along with Moyes and LvG). His time at the club has been shambolic and even if the current manager goes I do not trust Woodward to get the right man in.

Fred has been one of the worst players on the pitch. Effecting the dynamic, or something.

He’s been giving it large that we can spend and he has delivered since the disaster of Moyes summer to be fair.

But hasn’t really this summer which is find odd in hindsight, especially with the increasing competition around us in the league and the fact that City finished way ahead of us last season. Those facts are pretty good reasons to spend for me.

Those stories of the board being further down the line on the DoF structure than people think, Jose saying hes a head coach not a manager and the relatively low spending makes me think they’re preparing for the next man to come in. Pogba allegedly saying he’s unhappy has probably forced their hand since he has more than football ability to give to the club such as marketability...it’d be interesting to see how many others are unhappy if all this is true.

Because it all leads towards he’s lost confidence in Mourinho.

The buck stops with the manager in any football team.

But seeing that all three managerial appointments has turned out bad, someone upstairs has surely go to be responsible.

Yes, we don’t need players to beat Brighton. But if you are not going to back the manager nor sack him and do feck all in hope he does better, you surely are responsible.

Eddie has to go, and irrespective of your stance on players or Jose, this is a must.
