Man Utd set to appoint Director of Football (when hell freezes over)

Why would Beckham even consider being a DOF when he’s the owner of a club in America??Doesnt make any sense at all...
And as much as I liked him as a United player, I've got no idea he could be a DoF, never mind a good one. Get the impression he's the front man in Miami (has some money, some football experience, attracts investors).

If we are having Mou for the long term here, then Campos is the best choice.

On the other hand, if we are looking to revive Fergie’s attacking style, which combined atletism, long passes, pressing and verticality, then the choice is between Van Der Saar and Becks. Luring Edwin may be easier, considering Becks is building his franchise in Miami.

Didn’t Campos create an attacking team with Jardim at Monaco? Don’t see any problem with him coming in. Think it’ll take the sting out of the Jose situation and set us up well for the future.

I said it before. Leonardo would be an excellent choice imo. He has a lot of experience as DoF and did a great job at PSG. He has a huge network around the world. He's good not just for signing good players (great at convincing them), but also for knowing scouts who often offer him good players to develop with great potential.
He has an excellent communication and can very quickly get a grip on the fiber of the club.

I still say Ralf Rangnick would be perfect, he likes the entertaining football we crave and has helped RB Leipzig become a known force in the Bundesliga and helped them sign players such as Timo Werner, Naby Keita and Emil Forsberg etc. He's gone back to managing them this season but I think if we offered him the position he would take it.

‘Roma’s transfer chief Monchi and Juventus’ Fabio Paratici are currently viewed as the most desired options for the position‘

More papers running with it. Mourinho's quotes make it sound like he know it will happen.

What guarantee do we have that a DoF will make astute signings? What if he fecks up?

Be great to have Edwin back. Can anyone say, what exactly has his role been at Ajax, and has he been successful?

It's an old article but this can give people some perspective.

And about Monchi, if I remember correctly he said last year that being the DOF of a big club is a different job and it seemed that he was insinuating that it wasn't for him.

The DOF will still work with the glazers set budgets. Just another fall guy to take pressure of the leeches in charge. Well at least Woodward wont get the chance to piss about with transfers. People advocating Monchi? Roma have a completely different team and style to us. I personally want Van der sar. Someone who knows and understands the United way and the type of footballers we should be after.

A director of football would work closely with United’s already vast recruitment team, with executive vice chairman Ed Woodward and Mourinho maintaining key roles. They would ensure that a long-term plan is in place and potentially avoid last-minute scrambles for new faces.
Found this bit fairly interesting from the Keegan article, perhaps Mourinho and Woodward both took responsibility for the CB fiasco, I'd hope so because a strong working relationship between them is very important.

If we do actually put this (finally) into practice then I cant see Jose sticking around much longer.
I think one of the major draws Jose was all giddy about when joining us was the huge amount of freedom the club would offer him interms of who he wanted to bring in,playing plus coaching personal. And now with the possibility of a DOF on-board,who would likely align with the clubs offensive traditions rather than Jose's more cautious approach, I think it will eventually make his role seem almost redundant in his eyes.

Christian Heidel from Schalke04 would be a smart acquisition. Spotted two brilliant coaches in Tuchel and Klopp. Has brilliant negotiation skills. Just needs a functioning scouting department to work in tandem.

Who has Monchi signed for Roma? I know he had a big rep at Sevilla. But I remember seeing on here that some people weren’t impressed with the work he has done at Roma so far.

From what I've seen he's brought in alot promising talent, the most notable name being Justin Kluivert from AJAX.
Must be said though AS Roma's expectations (similiar to Mochi's last role at Sevilla) cant necessarily be aligned with United's, though that is depandant on what future route United want to take. Do we want to go through a phase of transition where, not only trophies, but a top 4 placement is in doubt even if we are progressing in the style fans want ? Certainly debatable.

I think you're right about Monchi. He is used to working with a smaller budget, and he probably enjoys unearthing gems for small fees. At Utd, the profile will be big money signings and all will be required to have an instant impact most of the time.

He's selling players as soon as they get good or are already good and buys young player, good or not.

Funny, 2 things --
1. It's like someone yelled "squirrel" and everyone jumps and goes running after the next new thing.
2. When did VDS become an expert in player acquisition? When did he become an expert on admirable players? Will he do press conferences? Will there be any more visibility into players?

2. By all accounts he’s done a very good job at Ajax, in a similar role. I doubt he would do any pressers.
