Class of 63
Sourness
If I hear we've appointed Larry White as DOF it would be music to my ears
If it was up to Gary, we'd still have David Moyes in charge. He's not got the mindset to have an important role such as DOF at the club, he's far too emotionally invested for it to work.
This mythical, mystery DOF who's going to make a lot of great signings and everything will be fine.
We need someone like Gary Neville who understands the ethos of the club and has a vision going forward. Some random wanker from Southampton will be overwhelmed by it all.
And then GNev helps pick the coach. If he doesn't think Mourinho is right then fair enough but he'd get rid of the circus and back the coach until the time was right.
Neville would want Pochettino in my opinion. I'm not a massive fan but I'd back it because there would be more of a long term vision about what was needed to be achieved.
Mitchell's from Manchester. This mythical, mystery DOF who's going to make a lot of great signings and everything will be fine.

Also, why would Mitchell, someone who's performed well in this job for years, be overwhelmed but Neville, who's never done the job before, wouldn't be?
The next time we shall hear about this DOF hiring, will be when we have another disastrous transfer window or if he is forced to fire Jose before the season ends (ie. he got another managerial appointment wrong, in quick succession).
The DOF statement is issued by the club, when things go wrong and to keep the press/fans quiet.
Woodward is not going to give up the power without being forced into it. And by "forced", I mean when things go disastrously wrong. There is absolutely no reason for Woodward to give up power/authority to a DOF.
This.Feel sorry for anyone who actually believes we're going to hire a DOF. Will be in for a surprise.
This.
"Here's the new manager everyone..."
Leonardo Jardim sat there, biggest job of his life and it dawns on him he has to manage the whole football operation with that b(w)anker Woodward sticking his ore in. His only experience being coaching players at a club who average about 15k a week.
Disasterous. Going to be so harsh on the next manager. Mourinho has done a solid job.

Neville knows better than any outside candidate the type of player, personality and vision that United want. He understand the youth and has great links within the game.
He runs a football club. He knows the business side of things excllently.
He has great contacts in the game who would aid with scouting and recruitment.
He's very intelligent about football and has good principles.
He's better than any other candidate in my opinion.
On a United forum? All your posts are either about Woodward or Mourinho. It's a bit odd
Gary Neville is absurd choice for DOF. The man who believes that Moyes shouldn't never have been sacked.
Ed, is that you? Blindly defending Jose and now suggesting the worst possible option for DoF Neville. With this guy as DoF we would still have Moyes and probably be in League 1 by now.Neville knows better than any outside candidate the type of player, personality and vision that United want. Not sure why you bring it up, I have no idea who Paul Mitchell is and I never said I did. However listening to Neville's constant BS on how Moyes deserved more time or that we should have swapped Martial for Willian makes me convinced he would be shocking option as DOF.The DOF you want is a figment of your imagination.
Nobody on here knows who Paul Mitchell is. They're just trying to convince themselves he's some genius who will sign loads of great players.

The reason Neville won't happen is because he hates Woodward and rightly slags him off all the time. Neville is still a supporter.
Sometimes the accusations will be false.Funny enough, that's the only reason you want Neville as a DoF even though he has zero experience in that role and show no interest in it.
Sometimes the accusations will be false.
I want Gary Neville as I agree with most he says, he has my principles which is United's principles.
He also owns and runs a football club, that is pretty good experience.
He has loads of connections in the game ffs. What does he have in the way of connections within the game or experience in a high profile role, at one of the biggest clubs on the planet, that leads you to place him above all other potential candidates?
Or is it that he simply shares an irrational hatred of Ed Woodward and the United board of Directors in general (according to you)?

If you agree with Neville then you think Moyes should have been given more time?
I do. He is a famous hairstylist. I dont know about his recruitment policy but he is badly needed at this club if only to sort out Pogba and Smallings hair. The DOF you want is a figment of your imagination.
Nobody on here knows who Paul Mitchell is. They're just trying to convince themselves he's some genius who will sign loads of great players.
He's hired and fired a few managers at Salford.Saying that Moyes should stay when you're a pundit (when your brother is on the coaching team) and having to make the decision to sack him when you're an actual stakeholder are two pretty different things.

It's so silly people seeing people saying Woodward would give up power. Regardless of us bringing in a DoF he would still have the authority over them.I've read this multiple times about the DOF being given full authority and it's absolute nonsense. Woodward is the boss and as such will be ultimately accountable. It's not about him "giving up power". It's about appointing someone who knows what they are doing to drive the football direction of the club.
The aim should be to appoint the right expertise to the right positions within the club to assist Woodward and the Glazers who aren't going anywhere.
