Man United appoint Moyes | Round, Woods, Lumsden, P Neville in; Giggs player/coach; Albert stays

I'm sure I read something once that said that Berbatov was always the first back from runs or could run for the longest or something to that effect when he was here, yet everyone thought he walked and was slow.

Back in the summer of 2009, Berbatov was quoted in the papers as saying he was running six miles every day in preparation for the new season.

Moyes in Manchester getting acquainted with reds

I'm not sure what I think of this appointment.

In one way I guess it's the United way of doing things, the "right" way, so to speak. As a manager Moyes is young, ambitious, PL proven and, errh, Scottish. I think he's a winner.

At the other hand, I've always imagined a huge, huge name coming in when SAF retires. Someone like Mourinho or Guardiola. But I guess I'd feel empty inside whoever came in.

It still hasn't sunk in. The great man, gone. This is the chance of David Moyes' life.

Moyes is a tough one, he doesn't suffer fools gladly. We'll be fine with him.

The 1st goal yesterday was wonderful. The 'he only know's hoof football' brigade have been quiet since then.

David Moyes has promised to uphold Manchester United's traditions of bringing young players into the first team.

The Everton manager is replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at the Old Trafford helm on 1 July and will be paying close attention to the Academy and the younger players below the senior squad.

It is clear that the Scot is aware of the need to develop English talent and this is an area where United currently excel. The likes of Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck and Chris Smalling are already established internationals but there are plenty more with potential further down the production line.

Wilfried Zaha is joining the club in the summer from Crystal Palace while Nick Powell was personally scouted by Moyes, according to reports at the time, during his stay at Crewe Alexandra. Warren Joyce's Under-21 side, in action against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, also includes a number of bright Englishmen with Tom Thorpe, Larnell Cole, Ryan Tunnicliffe and Jesse Lingard all mainstays of the successful team.

Everton's youngsters were unlucky to lose out to a late goal at Tottenham in the other semi-final of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League this week and the Merseysiders edged United out of a last-four spot in the Under-18 competition by virtue of a superior goal difference.

"Manchester United have always relied hugely on young players and my priority will always be to promote these talents," Moyes is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail during his address to the Cambridge Union on Monday night.

"It is the right way to go. We need to be producing better English players and we are working to find the solutions. My aim would be to develop these young English players and get more and more coming through.

"[However] There are issues to resolve. How do we get them more games at a competitive level? I like the Spanish model where there is a B team playing in the lower divisions. Could we implement the same here? That would be a starting point.

"Three years ago, I wanted to get the young Everton team into the Conference, as it would be a good place to compete. The FA told us we would have to start from the bottom - in division 27 or something!"

Moyes makes youth promise

Fergie calls for our support on the new man, he will have all my support.

This is the kind of man Verheijen is:

Two weeks after the death of Wales' national team manager Gary Speed, Verheijen said that he would like to become the new Wales manager and continue Speed's legacy (he described it as "Gary's wish"). His comments courted controversy, Speed had been buried two days earlier and the comments were considered by some to be inappropriate. They were described as "selfish" by former Wales international Iwan Roberts.

Among other things, he says Duncan Ferguson is a changed man. That's a shame, part of me wanted the old Big Dunc to become Moyes' right-hand man.

Many moons ago, there was one game when Everton were reduced to 10 men (need for anyone remember which). And Duncan displayed one of the best performance I had seen. He was just amazing. He wasn't just a 'big guy good on air' center forward. There were these drive and belief. Wanted him in red shirt since then.

Regarding putting teams down through the divisions, I'm not a fan at all. It would thoroughly kill off the chances of far to many smaller teams. It'd make a mockery of the league, what would happen when the youth team is successful, gets promoted and loses 4 or 5 players to first team football?

The loan system works just fine.

So Moyes has started work at United today apparently. How come he is allowed to join before July 1st?

Anyway, do we expect to hear some news over the coming week RE the backroom staff (Come home, P.Neville) and potential transfers?

No surprises there at all. Infact, I expected it.

Sky Sports suggest also that Steve Round,Jimmy Lumsden, and Phil Neville are to follow him to United.

Just seen in this thread about the horseshoe thing.

I have a feeling Hernandez wont collapse, continue for hours and Moyes' will be stunned.
