Maguire | NOT McGuire or MacGuire

I would actually like to see us move one of our 6 CBs (counting Blind) before even thinking about getting another. We seem to be heading towards creating an entire starting 11 of centre backs.

Can't we make up our mind about who is good and who needs to go. Also, we already have a great back up in Axel Tuanzebe so I just don't understand why we can't move at least one of them.

To my surprise, yeah. I still think he is nothing special, just a good ball playing CB who isn't good at defending.

He's not a Vidic or a Rio but who is these days? We need to embrace the fact that there aren't many talented defenders around. A 3 men CB seems the way to go especially since our flank men are hardly talented enough to justify their place either

A 3-5-2 system with Maguire-Bailly-Lindelof at the back, Dalot and Sandro at the rear flanks, Matic, Fred and Pogba in midfield and Sanchez & Lukaku upfront is the way to go.

I think he would prove a hell of a lot of his doubters wrong if he were to come here. Utd are crying out more than anything for a leader and a presence at the back, Maguire is that player.

Rojo and possibly Jones will be on the way out. Smalling would join them if next season we go for Toby

Maybe but honestly you don't see teams win anything seriously big with a formation like that. I honestly truly hate, it puts too much emphasis on the wingbacks for width and since ours are basically trash at attacking, it wouldn't as well as you may hope.

In a 3-5-2 with a deep midfielder there is extra cover for when mistakes happen. Thats how England dealt with it. If we sign Maguire i can see the 352 being used alot more.

Which is all well and good but we create an other problem as we don’t have the wingbacks to make that system work.

The balance in this squad is quite frankly shocking when you think about it.

Edit. Snap @kouroux !

Long term contract at Leicester + Excellent performance + Premier League proven + English + World Cup performance + Inflation = 65 million.

Seems fair to me.

I'm surprised it's not more than that to be honest.

Must be consistent if he has got player of the year 5 times out of 7 with each club he was with. He is also strong and do not get injured as much as what we have here now, or Alderweireld for that matter.

Have to hand it to Southampton, getting £75 million for VVD has made a mess of things for everyone else. Without that figure as a benchmark I strongly believe we probably would have signed Alderweirald already for about £50 million and we would be still looking at getting grief over how much it cost.

Instead we are looking at probably a similar outlay on Maguire (I like him and would be happy with him btw) and facing a real struggle to get Leicester to even consider the idea.

He won fan's player of the year and player's player of the year at both Leicester and Hull so it isn't just the fans that rate him, its his teammates too.

At least he's tall as feck, 1.94 wiki says

Can't completely get used to us maybe buying him. Maybe I'll be surprised, but if he's not 20% better than what we've got already, the money would be way better to throw at a world class player elsewhere

Pro is, we probably wont have to play Lindelöf again, who cost us points a few times last year.

Looks like we’ll end up getting Machoire, given that Leicester are looking at Ben Gibson again. I think he’ll be a solid upgrade on all our other CB options, and hopefully that mainstay in the heart of our back line that we’ve lacked since the Rio / Vidic days.

Even if we do get him, we’re still at least a right winger away from posing any threat for the title.

And a CB with passing ability. How many times last season did United just pass the ball between themselves at the back?

I agree with you. If United don't sign him, I can see McGee turning up at Chelsea/Spurs in a years time and being a revelation

Everywhere seems to be running with the story so looks very genuine now, hoping it means Jones and Rojo 100% being moved on which should bring in £40 million which added to Darmian when he goes (£10-£12 million) and Blind (£16 million) is a good income for deadwood and frees up about £400K in weekly wages too.

Blind already left?

Won't comment much, I really didn't see enough of him to make a proper judgment. Looked solid on WC and in few games I saw him at Leicester last season.

Do feel we have more pressing concerns in the squad than spending 65 million on another solid CB, so it all depends will we solve them by the end of the window.

It's only a gut feeling, but we aren't really after him.

luckily I left myself that out, Eriksen and Suarez in what 10 years? not a great record

From a Spurs prospective I'd along with Eriksen would add Vertonghen and our Sanchez (both from Ajax) who at a very young age looked very good in PL last season.

I was impressed with Maglev's performances at the world cup and if he can bring some balance to our defence then he is worth the money.

However I just hope he is not another case of English over-promotion like Jones and ends up hovering around the place on the injury list.

Lets be honest, he would walk into our starting 11.. So who cares how much he costs, just get the deal done

If we sign him, he will have to iron out a lot of small mistakes to become a top class CB. He's got all the tools though, and I think a big positive is that Megure complements Bailly very well.

I think he is over-priced for his age and we should not do this deal for Midge Ure. I think his earlier work with Ultravox was way batter than his solo stuff, and I'm sure we could get a better price.

I paid £35 quid for a ticket to a "best of the 80's" gig that had Nick Heyward, Limahl from Kajagoogoo and that deaf bloke with the chains that used to dance with Howard Jones. Now THATS good value!

I don't think we'll win anything seriously big with this team and attitude. The team is very poor. We lack quality covers for Matic and Lukaku, our full backs are very poor and if Martial leaves then all is left in terms of quality on the flanks is Sanchez. I've been saying it for years now. Its time that our club stops saying its the biggest club in the world and start acting like one.

The 3-5-2 formation might not win us the EPL title but it plays on our strengths. With 3 CBs we'll tackle our deficiencies at the back, 2 quality wing backs should provide us with the width we need, in a 3 men CM, Pogba and Matic will find themselves playing in their strengths

Leicester are in such a strong position here that they'd probably only let him go for more than VVD did. I think it would be madness, really.

Lindelof and Bailly need to be given a proper chance by Jose. He spent £70m on them and he needs to at least give it a go. Him still prioritizing a CB over a RW or FB is pure madness.

Honestly our deficiencies at the back are a bit overrated. Defending wasn't a major issue IMHO.

Problem is that kind of mindless spending isn't really sustainable.

Wouldn't call it mindless if he instantly walks into the starting line up though, but yeah we should be selling Rojo and one of Jones/Smalling possibly
