Maguire | NOT McGuire or MacGuire

Would we be interested if not for his World Cup displays? I like Maguire I think he’s decent but I get the feeling he wouldn’t be top of our CB list if not for those England games which is concerning.

I think he was always on the list but a deal for Toby is just too expensive with his age and recent injury record.

I'm sure that's part of it but it may also be that other targets like Alderweired proved harder to get than we thought. In other words he still might not be top of our lists, just a more attractive alternative choice.

Centrebacks, we need centrebacks. Hundreds and hundreds of centrebacks....

Maguire, Alderweireld, Bonucci, Vermaelen, Godin, Varane...let's get them all in. We'll never concede a goal ever again.

Mourinho loves a center back. Sometimes he strings 6 of them across the back line.

Not at all embarrassing for Manchester United, that.

I think Bailly is and will be a good signing. Not so sure about Lindelof.

Maguire, Bailly, Lindelof as a three and make them permanent and hope that Bailly stays fit and both of the other two improve massively.

No more Smalling or Jones, for the love of god please no more Smalling or Jones.

Sign him up.. he will be a very good signing and maybe we will be more potent in set pieces now ..

It's the perfect age to buy him. Almost fully developed and will be heading into his peak years soon but old enough to get 8 years out of him.

Peak years but at what level of peak? We let Pique leave on a free, allow Varane to go to Madrid because we would not pay €10 million and now we will pay £65 million for this, mad.

If this is happening, Jose HAS to sell 1-2 of them. Jones and Rojo, please. Promote Tuanzebe and Maguire in, to replace them.

Than why do we go for him just after 12 months for 3 times more money?

Did he magically got his qualities in 12 months? What are they thinking now? The manager, Woodward, the board?

Do they think, wow what a smart decision did we make one year ago, because the guy was playing for Hull? And now he plays for Leicester and they are the best defense in the league, we can spend 3 times what he might have cost just last year? I bet they think like that.

There’s a reason why Liverpool got their LB for peanuts and we will pay 65m for a guy that went for 15-20m last summer.
Have you considered that maybe he isn't our first choice, but our first choice isn't possible to get?

I think it's fecking ludicrous to go spending 60 mil on Maguire when the two centrebacks Mourinho has already signed for 30 mil a piece only played twice together in the league last season.
We can’t play 3 at the back without hard working, versatile wing backs. We’d be way too open out wide with Valencia, Shaw, Young etc. playing out there.

Mourinho is an absolute muppet for CBs isn't he? How many times did his big money CBs Baily and Lindelof play together last season?

Leicester would be stark raving mad to turn our bid down. He'll never be worth as much as he is now.
Hardly, having a player as good for them as Maguire is wouldn't be worth the £65m to be without him. Who would they get to replace him? If I were Leicester I'd turn the bid down as well, to them Maguire may as well be priceless because there isn't an alternative anywhere near as good for Leicester.

Maguire is a massive threat in the air at set pieces, something Jose likes. He's also a pretty vocal player.

In terms of playing style, he's not a million miles from John Terry and you must understand why Jose would want someone like that.
But do you think that he is or can be world class? I am strongly against this signing( i can't remember when i was so against some signing like in this case) because we are here where we are just because of that kind of transfer policy. We spent over 500mil last 5 years mainly on players who are either average/solid or on players who have "potential". Now we need finished product. Players who will make impact now. Not next year. If we are buying defender it must be bonucci or toby.

I like this signing; there's a reason he's won player of the season for his club 3 out of the last 4 seasons (correct me if I'm wrong); its just there are a fair few more pressing concerns with our starting XI that need addressing first.

That would be my choice at the back too but we need proper attacking wing backs if you're going to play 3 at the back.

Bailly Maguire Lindelof
Dalot Fred Matic New LB

We still need a LB.

No idea. Not every player needs to be world class though.

I do know that Jose Mourinho knows more about what makes a good centre back than I do.

I think that for winning titles you need to have one world class player in every line. Player who will make other players better. In defence we don't have him.

Would love to see Maguire at Utd. Would help us in corners too, hopefully no Lukaku defending corners from next season.
I don't really care about the transfer fee nowadays. Its all mental amounts and with everyone spending so much you either step up or step out. And at the end of the day if the player contributes to us winning some silverware then its all worth it.
With so many CB's at the club I reckon Mou might be going for a back 3. Bailly, Maguire and Lindelof/Smalling/Jones might work.

Maguire's set-piece threat is pointless anyway, we dont have a single player capable of putting in a good dead ball. Young at a push, I suppose.

Rojo is as good as gone. Hope we sell Jones too

Who to, man? He's recently signed a new fecking deal - nobody is gonna buy him! Another one rotting in our reserves earning way more than he should be until this new contract runs down, I reckon.

People moan when we do not sign players, now that we want a really good cb people start to moan about the price. Have a break.!

I'm so underwhelmed by basically every bit of business we do.

I think the Alexis transfer was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Have seen so many highly touted signings flop the last couple of seasons I'm convinced it's not the players themselves, it's how we utilize them.

Can't see it improving until The Miserable One packs his bag, either, but even then we'll probably hire another manager with another completely different strategy and the cycle repeats itself. Arghh.

Leicester really can't afford to let this player go at any price. He is the cornerstone of their defence and the starting point for a lot of their attacks.
65-70 mil at this stage of the window does not do them a lot of good. I think it is more likely to be Toby rather than Harry who comes in.

Not long ago we were laughing at City for buying Stones for 50m and now we are getting Harry fecking Maguire for 65m. Madness.

It's been exaggerated following the World Cup where teams were tactical messes in their box.

He's a threat in the air, no doubt. He's just really not that good at it. No better than Smalling, who got double the goals Maguire did this season gone.

Maguire got 6 goals and assists. I think most if not all were in the box. It’s a high total for a defender. So is 4 goals mind.
