Maguire | NOT McGuire or MacGuire

All those articles that just emerged, I can bet my arse that it's his agent either fighting for a move after a '''''''''''''''good'''''''''''' WC or a new contract at Leicester.

Definite tip-off on us going all out for Maguire, great call, he's going to be one of the best in the league.

We really need a left back though...

He's Leicester's biggest star coming off this world cup. He isnt Sergio Ramos plying the puppet master game. He holds all the cards and doesnt need to go leaking shit for a new contract at Leicester of all clubs. He could probably shag the Leicester chairman's wife with the reputation he's earned this summer.

Well I’m surprised. I thought this link was a result of lazy journalism, like some hack in Fleet Street sat down and put 2 and 2 together and thought “Hey! Utd were after Alderweireld but that’s gone quiet. Maguire scored against Sweden and he’s a centre back too! Let’s link Maguire and Utd!”

I remember him looking good against us when we played against Hull in the LeaguenCup semi final. I’m skeptical as to whether he’s actually that good (that he could play for a title challenging team). It could be another Schneiderlin moment.

I wouldn’t be particularly against it. He seems to have good aerial presence on when attacking corners, which is hard to find more and more seemingly.

Genuinely don't see how this lad improves us that much. Don't get the hype. At all.
I'd love to see Milan Škriniar here, or De Lift for the future. But we should be looking at selling Jones and Rojo.
Right back, left back and right wing need strengthening before we even think about splashing out on Joses third big money centre half singing in as many years.

It seems like a tip off but quite often when the articles flood on a player likes this it turns out to be a smokescreen for someone else.

I like him. Thought he was good at Hull and he's had another good season for Leicester this year. Add in the World Cup and I can see why top sides would at least be looking at him.

Whether he's good enough to actually succeed at Manchester United, I have no idea.

Mind you I don't particularly trust the English journalists even when they've clearly been tipped off by someone.

He's a cracking player. Would be an upgrade on what we have.

Interesting how everyone wanted him when he had a good season for Leicester, then he has a good WC, and now he's overrated. I don't get the logic on this forum at all....

What's this bs that we need to sell before we can buy him?
Sure, i agree we need to get rid of some players, but we can easily afford him and two other at the same price.

We have Jones, Smalling, Bailly, Lindelof and Rojo as centrebacks already. Only natural to sell one of them before we buy.

I’d love to see us sign this lad up. £65 million is a lot of fecking money though.

Never wanted him, he’s so far away from what we need it’s not even funny. Honestly, we’re run by a bunch of amateurs.

Which is exactly what i wrote.
My point was that the tweet that said it, made it sound like we had to sell to afford him.

The reality check when people watch him regularly is going to be hilarious. Aerial dominance aside, he’s a worse defender than Jones or Smalling. Much worse.

We were linked with Harry Maguire in the very early Moyes days.

Sir Alex was said to have been scouting him before he retired. If he was still manager we’d probably have signed him from Hull. He’s an immense talent.

Like Jones? Sir Alex thought he'd be an all time great

I see more sense in this than signing yet another 29/30 year old like Alderweireld

People are actually happy about this? People think he's actually a great defender? Huh, okay. Hyped up after a half decent World Cup and we're gonna spend 65mill on him? Mind boggling if true.

Gonna be fun following this thread, I can guarantee people hyped up about this transfer didn’t watch even 10% of Leicester games last season.

And I suppose the critics are all season ticket holders?

I see no reason to hype or hate this deal

I must admit to only watching the odd game of Leicester on Sky or watching highlights on MOTD but Maguire impressed me most of the time, even at Hull he was the standout player by a million miles.

I’m not saying he’s worth £65m but he’s a good defender.

It’s the complete opposite. Anyone saying he’s shite just assume he’s a lump as he’s a big English lad. Anyone who watched Leicester would have been seriously impressed. Funny that he won their player of the year isn’t it?

Good defender but nothing special on the ball. Around the same technical ability as Phil Jones.

He plays for Leicester, not some obscure side in the Italian second division. A lot of people will have seen a fair bit of him.

Well Jose doesn’t mind that, when does he expect his CB’s to have technical ability? They hoof the ball upfield at every opportunity.

Not sure about the others but I watched a fair share of their games with almost every single game involving an episode where Maguire looks like a right tit, his defending can be abysmal when he doesn’t have another two CBs next to him.

He looks flashy with the ball (unusual for an English CB, hence only his good moves get stuck with English media and maybe even Leicester fans as they have zero expectations) and sometimes he can actually set up an attack really well but his defending is seriously bad I’m sorry.

Actually, people should rewatch our game against them away from home - guy was all over the shop all game and we should have had something like 5-6 goals in all honesty, his positioning was laughable at times. However, what stayed with people Leicester fans included is his last minute goal and passes.

I actually think he's really good as a defender. Maybe I don't really understand the sport :nervous:

He's obviously not better than Toby A. but he's what 4-5 years younger? For the same price its not bizzare that Jose would opt for Harry.
