Maguire | he stays!

Southgate makes an exception for Maguire though, he loves him.

Colwill will take his place if he's not playing by the time the Euros come around. Possibly even Dunk if he and Brighton Excel in Europe.

It should have happened already but like you say, Southgate loves him.

Needs to reduce his wage demands and someone in the PL would cough up a decent amount. We are just not good at selling and overpay wage wise.

Smalling was/is the better defender though.

This is real captain hindsight stuff.
There were constant moans about Smalling for years before he was shipped off, and his star season was playing in a deep Jose block. The sort Maguire would have excelled in.

Smalling had some great strengths, pace, heading etc, but something never tied up.

Not from me, his best season was playing alongside Blind under LVG.

I think his star season was probably under LVG. Ironically, he bloomed under passing-to-death manager, as long as he's with a right partner.

Drop him to the reserves, don't take him on the tour - You lot are ridiculous.

Look he ain't good enough for Manchester United, that is clear. But you can't punish him for nothing, he has to have done something WRONG to be banged in the reserves or left from the squad tour - In doing so I reckon the club could be up for some form of punishment themselves, he has employment rights such as the rest of us. Could you imagine your place of work sticking you on toilet duties and not offering you the same opportunities, you'd have a field day.
That is not punishment. Club must pay player's wages and give him chance to train. And that is it.
Manager has right to play him, bench him, not register him or send him in reserves. Sometimes you just need to be ruthless. Whole summer is in front of him. It is ok to say to him that he is not in first team plans and that he needs to go. That will give him a push to find a new club.

With our approach (stay as backup if you want to), of course that players whos alternative is midtable club will stay. Who wouldn't? United or West Ham? Hm...tough choice.

The simple truth is his wages are probably in the region of 100k too high for any club who is willing to take him on.

He is good enough for West Ham in the right system im sure, but no way in hell are we spending 200k on wages. Maybe 125k at most, he isn't good enough to smash our current wage stricture.

I'm sure the same is true for other clubs that are at the standard that Maguire might be useful still.

He will leave, probably on loan, late on in the window

We will pay a % of his wage as well.

It’s what we do.

Everyone knows he’s on big wages and we want rid. The vultures will circle later when we are truly desperate.

Then for once the club NEEDS to be fecking ruthless and tell them all outright that they have no future so can either leave or they’re cut from all first team games outside of a worst case scenario injury crisis, if we’re realistic with transfer fees based on the ridiculous wages we’ve given players over the years we’ll surely find a buyer for them all or we’d have to subsidise the wages til end of contracts.

None of them care apart from McTomminay. Martial gave it billy big bollocks until he was humbled over in Sevilla, now he's too scared to leave, and Maguire's too thick to get the message. These lads won the lottery and won't give up on the dream that easily. They'll say they want to fight for their place but the reality is they know they're finished once they leave United, the only way is down.

As much as Southgate loves Maguire I don’t see him picking him if he isn’t playing at all for United as Southgate has options now at centre back with Stones, Tomori, Guehi, Colwill, White, Gomez, Chalobah and then there’s even Walker and Shaw who plays ahead of him already for us so maybe not playing for England could be the thing that gets Maguire to see he’s not wanted or needed at the club.

With Martial isn’t he out of contract next summer ? No one is young to go in for him this summer when he’s on £250K a week and out of contract in 12 months, thing with Martial is he’s basically another Phil Jones that’s going to be at the club until he’s no longer under contract.

No sarcasm, I actually think he would be a really good signing for West ham, hopefully he drops his wage demands.

I disagree with McT thing if he leaves he will do very well in a mid to bottom team, shame home grown player who got so far then stagnated, would also do well north of the border

Asked if Maguire would turn United into title challengers, Guardiola said: "Yeah. Maguire is an excellent, top-class player.

"We were interested, but we could not afford it. United afford it. He's an excellent player, national team too, he had an incredible World Cup.

"He's strong in the air, good with the ball, the build-up, he drives with the ball, he's fast, so fast. He has all the qualities. Congratulations to United for this signature."

Just how incompetent are the management at our club?

That is a second time he's done that to Utd, maybe 3rd with Fred..

Radio silence.

Nobody wants him.
If you're a buying club you wait until the dying embers of the transfer window to eke out the absolute best deal for yourself knowing how desperate we are to sell and get him off our books. Probably lead to us agreeing to partially subsidise his wages, too.

The question clubs have to ask is whether the better financial deal is more important than getting the player in earlier in the window, giving him more time to settle and for the system to integrate him.

We should have just signed Kim, that would have sent a strong message him and Southgate his father.

Just banish all unwanted players to reserves. If they have any shame, they will lower their wage demands to force a move.

Wonder if our fans constantly making fun of him & turning him to a Meme has reduced interest & potential fees for us. He had a good season for us & been good for England, dont think he is bad not to play for Pl teams under the top 8.

Very much this. Though Roma fans adore him. Being a success under such different managers as LvG and Jose is no mean feat.

As far as I can tell, the only body of United fans that didn’t like him was on here.

It's not only our fans though. It's worldwide fans, even Ghanaian parliament.

Doubt the Ghanaian Parliament started it though - seemed like it was a joke we started and then grew by the world.

Yeah. There was a consensus that Smalling was the one preventing us to score more goals because he couldn't "pass" from the back. Which was just silly. Since we now have 2 ball playing centerbacks, the excuse swift then to DDG.

There were whispers he wanted to stay and fight for his place, and I reckon that will be the case.
It's pure delusion from his part - he's essentially 5th choice. Barring a freak scenario where we have a catastrophic injury crisis in defence, or the odd game he's brought on in the last 10 minutes or so to shore up, I just don't see where he thinks he's getting games.

He wants to stay because of his wages, the fact he can call himself a United player, and the fact that twit Southgate seems to perpetually pick him.

Let him go on a free I say. We took a gamble, didn't pay off, cut the losses.

If Maguire had any sense he would sign a four year contract at West Ham for £125k. Guaranteed football, guaranteed England place plus probably a signing on bonus. If he doesn't make a move like this then he is just another greedy idiot like Lingard was.

Need West Ham to fleece the arse for Rice then they can buy Maguire and McTom hopefully.
