Maguire | he stays!

Asked if Maguire would turn United into title challengers, Guardiola said: "Yeah. Maguire is an excellent, top-class player.

"We were interested, but we could not afford it. United afford it. He's an excellent player, national team too, he had an incredible World Cup.

"He's strong in the air, good with the ball, the build-up, he drives with the ball, he's fast, so fast. He has all the qualities. Congratulations to United for this signature."

Just how incompetent are the management at our club?

That is a second time he's done that to Utd, maybe 3rd with Fred..
Pep got lucky with losing out in a few players to us. No need to pretend it’s some master plan.
Look at Akanji, find me posts ore signing that he was perfect for Peps side

Would take 25m in a heartbeat
And we should be willing to pay half of his wages. Who is going to pay £237k per week for his wages?
At most, his valuation is £15m transfer fee + £125k per week, especially that he is over 30 with zero resale value.

Akanji who they got for €17 a season after Dortmund signed him for €20.

The fast, so fast comment just was like a ha ha. Do you think he didn't know he was slow?

Imagine being a fan of a different club and your club announces the signing of major internet meme Harry Maguire. That is not a fun moment.

I wonder if Maguire being a worldwide joke is also a reason for other clubs to not be interested in him. He is an England international but there are hardly any stories of interested clubs.

The lack of rumours are concerning and surprising. He is England’s starting CB.

Football clubs don’t give a flying feck about football memes and internet analysts. They’re not interested because he’s 30 years old on 190k a week and Manchester United want to recoup as much money as they can for a player they signed for 80m.

At least half a dozen "viral" videos of Maguire's incessant goof-ups haven't helped either.

I don't see him leaving. We can't really buy a replacement even if we sell him as we have other priorities, so he'll still be stinking up the club next season along with Martial, Fred and probably McTom too.

we literally don’t need a replacement for him if he leaves. He’s currently our 5th choice CB.

Isn't he due back in court soon? Maybe they're waiting to see how that pans out...

I read it’s purely an attempt to overturn the actual conviction, not for any potential change in punishment.

I think we’re just generally struggling for takers because of the whole financial package. Think he’ll end up staying as there doesn’t seem any willingness on his part to push for a way out.

You would think there would be a little more concrete rumours around a departure but it's all very quiet. You'd think both parties would want it sorted before pre-season but unfortunately looks as though it's going to drag out which suits no one.

Still have a gut feeling he will be proactive in finding a new club behind the scenes.

They’re all on holiday now. I’d say when they return and get in the same room is when we’ll see movement.

Anyone serious about their career and wanting to keep their place in the England team, doesn’t accept 4th place.
Are you saying Maguire's too good to be 4th choice? Because if he's willing to stay despite that, that would be a good thing for the club to have somebody on the bench who's better than that.

If it makes you feel better, imagine Woodward only spent £40m on him. Not that that's Maguire's fault.

Who said it's Maguire's fault?

The reality is players with that profile don't remain as 4th or 5th choice when they are still in their prime and don't have any injury problems. I don't think any club would want them to stay and usually, the player would be eager to leave and play.

He’s not the biggest issue one bit. If he stays it’s not that bad at all if we get a sweeper keeper finally. He’s 4th choice and has more qualities than McTomminay or VDB for example. He’s a far better footballer than either of those.

Hell I would argue he’s a better footballer than Antony and Sancho as well considering they’ve done absolutely nothing so far in a United shirt from the wing.

De Gea put so much pressure on his game given he doesn’t help Maguire’s lack of pace staying in net all the time.

Never mind the distribution from De Gea was shocking too. Maguire I feel can do a decent job with a more pro active keeper.

Not my main issue with the squad at all. As far as backups go he did just fine last season. Kept many clean sheets.

I cant bring myself to insult one of our players, or even any player for that matter, unless I knew them personally and they deserved it.

The amount of shit he gets from football fans is ruthless but I'm sure he has good people around him and doesn't pay too much attention to it.

Personally I do not think he is suited to our style of play under ETH but I do think he is good enough to play for at least half the teams in the league.

Hopefully he leaves gracefully and I wish him all the best.

Don't bring him on US Tour, that send him a message.

Drop him to the reserves, don't take him on the tour - You lot are ridiculous.

Look he ain't good enough for Manchester United, that is clear. But you can't punish him for nothing, he has to have done something WRONG to be banged in the reserves or left from the squad tour - In doing so I reckon the club could be up for some form of punishment themselves, he has employment rights such as the rest of us. Could you imagine your place of work sticking you on toilet duties and not offering you the same opportunities, you'd have a field day.

Maguire from Leicester to United. Did United get worse with his arrival, or did Leicester get worse with his departure? In that sense Utd at least got one (dare I say 'really'?) good season out of him.

Completely agree.

The guy got hate from day 1 because of how much Woodward spent on him. For some reason, a contingent of our fans never forgave Maguire for what somebody else did, and have taken pleasure in him failing to prove that it was bad business to begin with.

I think Maguire should leave because his confidence is shot and he's on a hiding to nothing at United. But he's obviously good enough to be our 4th choice, so I wouldn't mind too much if he stays because of other budgetary constraints.

Wanting to punish him for having a contract is childish at best.

I'd say two good seasons as a starter, One more utterly sh*t season as a starter. And this last season as a sub was unimpressive but okay overall.

The dropping him to the reserves bit is ridiculously OTT I agree.

But if it reaches a point where there are concrete offers for him and he doesn't want to go, it should be made clear to him that there are no plans for him to get gametime here. If it involves dropping him from match day squads to really propel him to leave, then so be it. The club needs to generate funds from sales in order to fund signings we desperately need, and I'll be damned if Maguire compromises that with his delusional desire to stay and fight for his place as 5th choice CB. There's admirable, then there's being full on delusional to the point of costing the club - Maguire firmly sits in the latter category.

They did win an FA cup without him, but apart from that I would definitely say they didn’t truly “replace” him.

It's probably something like Spurs, West Ham or he stays. Really we'd need a replacement anyway if he was to leave so no big deal if he stays.
