Mafia ii

74% on Metacritic, based on 23 reviews. The consensus is that it is above average, but deeply flawed. Pass.

What do you mean by deeply flawed Lance? What's the problems.

Have you checked out any of the reviews? Pretty much all of them cite the same things. Cover system is iffy, the melee combat sections are ricockulously simple, and the city is a ghost town. By that, I mean outside of the main storyline, there is nothing to do. Kind of defeating the purpose of utilising such a large map.

I was forwarded a torrent by an anonymous user, I checked it's quality to make sure it was real before reporting it to the authorities so that the evil torrent makers can be shut down, from what I saw it was an awesome game and I'll be sure to purchase it when it is released.

All the slightly negative reviews. People have this misconception that the game is like GTA. It isn't. You make the action in this game, and its based mostly on the campaign which most have said it absolutely fantastic. People need to realize that the Mafia is not all bang bang and shoot them up. There is alot of the little things in between like selling cigarettes and the like.

Yeah i've read the reviews, they say the story is good but you don't wander off the path much. I didn't really do a lot of the the non story mission stuff in GTA IV, now Red Dead was another thing completely i did everything there, as long as the story is good i'll enjoy it. Not heard many complaints from the reviews i've read about the cover system, although i have heard the combat is easy but it can't be any easier than in uncharted!

I think i'll still grab it though, i've kinda had a change of heart.

Post your thoughts, please. Are you getting the PS3 version?

I trust gamespot. When it gives a game 8.5, it's worth it.

Everyone missing this game based on reviews should stick to boring GTA, this game is simply brilliant, I am at chapter 14 and it is mind blowing really.
I expected from this game something that GTA does not have, brilliant story and I got it

And what can you do in GTA IV outside main storyline that is so interesting? Because, obviosly, everyone is comparing this game to GTA IV...
Come on people, that is child's argument, Mafia 2 is supposed to be linear because it has great story. I got bored halfway through GTA IV main story, let alone doing something outside of it.

The only person comparing it to GTA4 in this thread, is you.

You had also decided that this game was going to be brilliant two months ago. Forgive me if I don't take your opinion seriously.

If you read the reviews you could see that almost everyone is comparing this game to GTA, believe deluded reviewers if you want, only you will be on the loss by missing this gem with prejudice like that.

But then again, maybe you are this type of player:

Yeah, they probably would give it good reviews if Vito could jump around from building to building, throwing cars at everyone and makes rampage like Hulk, drives Ferrari and Porshe at 300 km/h breaking everything and everyone in front of him and going around corners without letting off the gas button, and listening to techno-trance-crap music instead of this "boring" one.

I tried it yesterday for the first time and found it to be great. It's more immersive than any GTA game I've played before and less predictable, less cheesy and a lot more fun.

Also, this is not so impossible too

notice that the last 3 games ign reviewed (shank, mafia 2, kane and lynch 2) got shity reviews because halo reach is coming out in 19 days and the're trying to make halo reach look awsome. F u c k ign

I never trust reviewers, that is stupid thing to do, believing blindly what one person says about the game, that is just one persons view and shouldn't be reason for not trying a game, try it yourself and then decide...

How long does it take to finish the game ? It's a big "make or break" for me.

It depends on you really, if you rush it, you can probably finish it in 10 hours or a little more, but if you actualy enjoy the game while playing it, there is much more of gameplay, there is so much little things in the game that contributes so much to it, I am in my 4th day of playing and haven't finished it yet.

It depends wether you want to go mission mission mission mission mission mission mission game over going from A to Z to do objective and ignoring the massive sandbox city and its quirks and features, or wether you actually want to play the game how it is supposed to be played.

Good stuff, I'm not the type that hurries in general (I tend to explore and complete games as much as possible now).I'm waiting for one last review I personally trust before acquiring this game probably tomorrow.
I love the "mafia" world in general (movies, games). Thanks for the answers btw

I have already played the demo. I also don't put my trust in one person's view, which is why I use Metacritic.

Oh, and whoever wrote that nonsense, is a wackjob.

Really. How did you come to that conclusion?

Because a great many things that masses regard to be good/great and personally a lot of stuff I and many others find to be great comes with a poor rating on Metacritic/Rotten Tomatoes.

I would rather find out for myself than trust somebody else who has a different opinion to me and likes different things to me. I don't believe that because somebody else says so that it is so.

Incidently, they have given Mafia II 79/100 which is a decent review. I still would rather find out for myself which I did do and loved it.

Nail on the head.

So, in your opinion, a site that takes reviews from numerous different sources and comes up with an average score, is "the biggest bag of wank ever." Holds absolutely no merit. Is utterly pointless. Of no benefit whatsoever for someone who is interested in gauging the quality of a particular game, having already played the demo.

Stop talking to me now.

No, in my opinion a site that gives poor ratings to numerous different things that everybody else considers to be great is utterly pointless.

Also what is utterly pointless is trusting somebody you don't know on the quality of a game who has different tastes to you. I went on JustEat yesterday to order a takeaway and they also have a review system like Metacritic where multiple users score the product, one review said 'The delivery was early and I was on the toilet' therefore giving it a bad review for it's delivery and affecting it's score. I do not believe idiots such as this give any merit at all to review sites such as Metacritic/Rotten Tomatoes therefore stand by what I said.

lol at your demand also.

So why should I listen to you?

hoping to get tomorrow. i prefer story related games so looking forward to it

So why should I listen to you?

I didn't say you had to. I'm using it to show you how unreliable it is to listen to others. We say it's good, they say it's bad. I'm not sure how many people Metacritic review but I bet it's a damn sight less than will buy the game and enjoy it therefore you will have more positive reviews outweighing the negative... how do you choose who you believe? You buy the game yourself and play it rather than taking somebody elses word for it that a.) you don't know and b.) could be some idiot with half a brain cell who likes to run into the cafe and shoot someone to get mowed down by 5 guys and denounce the game as rubbish which I have seen plenty of times.

So really, the reason you should listen to me is that I am showing you the pointlessness of using review sites to make up your own mind. Listen to my moral of the story and not to my opinion of the game or Metacritics opinion of the game. Play it yourself and make up your own mind.

Well this thead went wildly off course somehow.

Anyway mines arrived, it's got 3 dlc's but 2 just look like a car and some clothes rather than anything mission wise.

Heh, it's a totally nonsensical argument isn't it? I can't understand why people get so pissy when something they like gets a bad review, are they that insecure?

Make up your own mind, after you have purchased it? Easy for some than others.

No, you aren't. You aren't "showing me anything." You are tediously blathering while ignoring the fact that I have ALREADY played the game.

You also don't seem at all familiar with Metacritic. If you were, then you would know what reviews they use, and that they also have a fan rating. So if I choose to, I can read what people like you think about the game.

I am not sure why you give a shit, either way. You have it, you enjoy it. Is that not enough for you?

I'm with you. I really don't get it.

Ah right, oh and i looked at metacritic to see what games with low scores i thought were good, fun games. The first one i found was White Knight Chronicles with a 64, also the game i think is quite possibly one of the worst ever made considering the other games around is rated last with 17. Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust, just saying the name makes me remember the sheer terribleness of it.

Have you played the game? Or have you played the demo which is not inclduded in the game therefore you haven't sampled the game if this is the case.

I have blatantly just demonstrated to you how listening to others on reviews serves no purpose as it is made up of factors that affect judgement not to mention the fact that a lot say it's good, a lot say it's bad and you just choose one to believe. If you want to say I haven't then that's fine but it's pretty clear I have.

I don't actually give a shit either to be honest, it's not a major thing in my life but something to talk about in the thread. I just don't understand it when someone basically says 'You say it's good having played it, somebody else says it is bad having played it so I shall believe them' when both sources are equally as credible as each other therefore it makes no sense to side with any of them. It's about making your own mind up.

You haven't done anything other than bore the piss out of me.

"Make your own mind up, blah, blah, blah." We get it. Will you shut up now?

To be honest I couldn't care less any more if I've bored you, your attitude towards others has fast started to bore me even more.

No I won't shut up, I'm here to post. If that offends you I suggest you pass over any posts I might make if it affects you so greatly. I promise not to lose sleep over it.

Xander how are you finding it?
