Lindegaard better than Romero.
Rafael was good enough for Fergie and better defensively than Valencia plus Darmian is inconsistent.
Blackett should have stayed to relieve injury crisis.
Evans more solid than Rojo.
Evra winning titles with Juve. Shaw injury unlucky though.
Cleverley has been as good or better for Everton than Schweinsteiger has for us so far.
Kagawa rediscovering his form and could have added some cutting edge and urgency in passing.
Welbecks pace and constant threat on the brake. Provides great support for the striker despite his low goal return.
Di Maria back to his best at PSG (is he?) allthough his last season here was not very good.
Nani pace and creativity.
Hernandez' goal scoring abilities. 29 goals this season. Would've relieved some pressure from Martial and Rooney.

I think we'd have been better off keeping at least one from Nani and Kagawa, Hernandez for sure, and Rafael as well.

Lindegaard was probably on par with Romero, or worse.
Blackett wasn't good enough
Evans is not as solid as Rojo at CB, both rubbish at full back.
Evra left of his own volition.
Cleverley is crap and has been dreadful for Everton. Schweinsteiger did ok in the first half of the season.
Welbeck is crap and would have taken opportunities from Rashford
Di Maria doesn't have a spine and couldn't hack it in a competitive league.

I know LVB and Jose are friends or whatever but I can't see him going for that at all, just as much as having Giggs as his assistant, i just can't see it, LVB just needs to feck off altogether and take his expectation lowering and his colouring book with him!

Has the team playing the worst football we've ever seen Manchester United play, has made every single player worse, players he sold have shown plenty of worth elsewhere and none of his signings are playing well. I know, let's make him director of football!

Van gaal as a director of football doesn't worry me at all. I think it's clear it's just a way for the club to allow him to leave with dignity once his contract is over next year, he's getting the money anyway so financially it won't be a problem. I highly doubt he'll have a big say in anything.

But why should the club let him leave with dignity? He had a job and he has failed at it, so badly in fact the fans hate him. He deserves nothing from the club. LvG as a DoF is an awful, awful idea.

Because it's what classy civilised people do?!

As mentioned above, given that the club has to pay his last year's contract, may as well get some value out of it. Just because his efforts did not work out does not mean he has nothing more to offer the club. Many have been asking for more footballing people 'upstairs' at the club - am sure LVG has plenty more to offer, especially on club organisation and youth development.

That would be just idiotic.

Ask Koeman how that goes. And He doesn't even have an ego as big as Mourinhos.

Woodward can't be that stupid . This article is madeup imo.
Yeah, it's total BS. And the suggestion Woodward don't want to sack LVG because of friendship/loyalty, pfft not like LVG's some United legend who will be hanging around the club to bother Woody. He'll back to his Portugal retirement villa, Woody won't hear of him again.

I think the press don't know much so they are just making things as they go.

Why on earth would we give him a place upstairs, once this mug leaves United I never want to hear him or see his face again.

Lindegaard, the current third choice keeper at West Bromich Albion is better than Sergio Romero? Argentina's Number 1?

Na, Romero the second choice keeper at Sampdoria and Monaco was no better than Lindegaard, the second choice keeper at the time at Manchester United.

LOL. No one will make him the DoF, while making Mou the coach. Both will be busy fighting with each other all the time.

This. That arrogant fraud hasn't done one dignified thing in his entire dreadful tenure as manager.

He has humiliated and mismanaged players as well as insulting fans at every turn (expectations are too high?!).

Dignity... That charlatan should be chased out of Old Trafford being pelted with rotten tomatoes & hounded all the way to Portugal where he can disappear off the face of the earth for good. Absolute fraud.

I love his recent comments about fans expectations being 'much too high'. How dare we expect to qualify for the champions league after spending >200 million pounds.

Get this man out of our club.

Martial was mainly a Woodward signing, wasn't he?
I'm pretty sure Van Gaal also sign off the Shaw and Herrera transfers, that's not to say their his but he clearly play a part. So you would have to image he also played a part in the Martial transfer as well.
Oh yes. Martial. The signing that Van Gaal "made for his successor."

Man hasn't got a fecking clue.

But Martial does prove that not all he's signings have been crap. I'm not defending Van Gaal just pointing out that's it's untrue that all of his signings have been shite(Also let's not forget for some of these players it's their first season at United).

That's not really the fans expectations is it. Many on here at the very least would still sack Van Gaal had he got 4th, the expectations were a title challenge and a decent run in the CL, which is perfectly fine. Although with said I don't get the anger over the comments.

Van Gaal recently stated that he wanted a 2 year deal but Woodward insisted on 3 years. Personally I think the club will spin that the third year was always "optional" and Van Gaal has decided not to trigger it. Best for all parties I think. It would allow Van Gaal leave a winner.
I think I read recently that Van Gaal originally only wanted to do 2, but Woodward talked him into taking 3? If that is the case it will be an easy (even if it is bullshit) argument to make: the third year was always about not allowing the manager to be seen to be in his last year because that made him a lame duck, etc etc. So yes I think this is very plausible.

I dint believe the stories about moving Van Gaal upstairs for one moment. But if they did turn out to be true, it would demonstrate a massive, and really worrying, lack of balls on Woodward's part. He really just needs to be ruthless in this situation, as Im sure he will be on the off chance that Van Gaal doesnt offer to go for him.

Van Gaal as a DoF would be an unmitigated disaster. He doesnt have the right skillset for it - he sees himself as a coach, a teacher of football strategy, not a glorified scout. And he has repeatedly said he wants to make good on his promise to his wife and retire, not extend his career indefinitely in Manchester.

Its hard to think of a less credible story to be honest.

You can't throw all his bad signing in his face and then attribute the success of Martial to Woodward, Giggs, his successor or something. Give credit when it's due.

I was thinking when he walks out tomorrow he will probably be aware that he's walking out to manage his last ever game before retiring. At least Wembley in a Cup Final is a decent way to go out.

We should try and break a record for possession as a tribute to him. I think Barca once achieved 90% possession against Celtic in a CL game, we need to see if we can beat that. 93% possession, score with the only shot on goal in the game. Its what he would want for his last ever game.

I actually think LVG would make a good director of football, it's a role he's done before and I do think some of his ideas are good for the club. It won't happen tho as he's already said he will retire so can't see it.

I can see him moving to a "DOF" role which is basically shunted behind the scenes to tidy up any of his infrastructural work that he was doing.

He has done it before and people involved hated it.
Perhaps but if he's well thought of within our club then that must mean behind the scenes he's better than we thought and we know that he gets on with Mounrinho. If he stays within his boundarys that's the sort of DOF we need.
