My biggest gripe with this so called possession team is how we fail to keep possession when under any kind of pressure. This game kind of reminded of the Wolfsburg game, and actually many others, where we failed to keep the ball and blunt the opposition when we needed it the most. West Ham were able to pressure us into losing possession and attack us almost at will, while we failed to get into their box.

We had a good thing going for a month last season when we were maintaining dominant possession, transitioning from defense to attack in lightning quick speed, players making runs off the ball and actually looked good enough to be sitting out a world class player like Di Maria. I had a ton of positive expectations from seeing LvG's philosophy actually translating into something good on the pitch.

It still beats me why we completely shunned that personnel and formation and started this season with two holding midfielders, Blind in defense and that utter nonce Memphis on the wing. Like he worked all season cycling through formations until he struck gold and abandoned it as soon as he faced the first sign of trouble instead of buying and building upon it and we haven't been the same since.

It really hurts. We had the lead and could not protect it. The game was never under our control. It felt like we were outmanned at both ends of the pitch.

At this point we have proven that Van Gaal's methods do not work. Not in this league, not in Europe. The fundamentals of his philosophy are nowhere to be found in the football we play. Both our goals today scored from long passes into a stretched defense.

It's been the biggest gripe for ages. And when you think about it, it's not really restricted to some games. We're generally good at keep ball but that's something that's easy to be good at. Think of what happens when we start crossing the half way line; how long it takes for us to play a forward pass and what happens when we play a forward pass. Instantly surrounded by crowds of defenders we struggle. I've never seen a team this incapable of moving the ball in between the lines in opposition half. How often do we see this team take touches inside the box and work a chance out of that?

The exact same logic comes to fore when teams press us high up.

Yup. It's flabbergasting that this team seems to have made no progress. It is a bunch of individuals who have been trained to pass the ball around under no pressure but have no idea what to do with it to hurt the opposition or to keep it under control when the opposition presses us. I would genuinely like to know what we do in training and what is our actual game plan going into each game. Because we look clueless on the pitch attacking and depend on one player to do all the work for us.

It is, because they need to listen to their fans. The arrogant pricks.

The thing is, we all bitch and moan on here but the match going fans etc don't show much dissent which means that the board members are in a relatively comfortable position regarding LvG.

I'm struggling to think of another team I've seen like this. Even Swansea zip it about better than us ffs. It's blatantly obvious that this team needs a new manager and some different coaching.

Thats the big problem. I think our board should feel some of the fire. Only possibility to be heard is social media at this stage. Our match going fans will not give them hell.

Maybe its for the best, only two more to go.

He should be sacked now, since we have a chance now at a top 4 finish (not with LVG though).

Of course this won't happen, and he won't be sacked until he makes in impossible again (mathematically this time) to finish in the top 4, but we really should sack him now and hire Mourinho for the remaining games.
Too late now I guess.

So when is the earliest we might (realistically) sack him? I can't wait. So sick of this. Never been so saddened by a loss in a long time.

This team that LvG has built honestly reminds me of a bad save game on FM when you just make constant catastrophic mistakes in the transfer market along with grossly mismanaging the team and end up in a dire mess. The thing is, you can just quit and start again. Do we have a delete button for this team and manager? We really need to start from scratch.

LvG is the main problem, obviously; but feck me, this squad of players is piss poor in comparison to other teams in the league, never mind the European heavyweights as we are light-years behind them.

It won't happen until after the FA Cup and after tonight's performance Pardew will be planning massively to aggressively put our players under pressure....I don't have much confidence in us taking that to be honest.

I'd love to know what votes haven't changed at all following that

Let's hear from those who are still backing him, what's your reasoning?

"But nothing ever happens...nothing happens at all...the needle returns to the start of the song and we all sing along like before"

"and we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow"

Yeah I can see us losing the final.

If they only had to cater to the "match-going" fans then they wouldn't be one of the richest clubs in the world. All these huge endorsement and sponsorship deals are not made because of 75k match-day fans they are made because of the huge worldwide profile and fan-base that LvG and Woody seem to be doing their level best to ignore and piss off currently.

Still think that he'll go but only after the FA Cup final is probably lost

Yeah I can see us losing the final.
No !!! forget LVG for a minute, West Ham have played well this season and Upton Park is a hard ground to get a result at, but Crystal Palace FFS they are crap, even on last nights performance we would of beat them.
For the Final we will have Side Show Bob back and love him or hate him , he was what was missing last night

Yeah, I mean if there had been widespread dissent that was evident at Old Trafford, then the board would have been in an awkward position. But, unfortunately everything looks just rosy when looking at the reception at Old Trafford, the majority of the time, anyway.

I still think the clown will stay. All logic absolutely says he has to go, but I have an awful feeling he will be in the dugout come August.

He will not be sacked until our very last game, which is the FA Cup Final. People who believe he'd leave before that game are delusional.

Did you not see us against Villa and Norwich. Swansea battered West Ham last week and if Spurs for instance had played West Ham last night they would not have left empty handed. We have no bottle and I don't expect it to turn up in the final. Once again we had 10mins to try and get a goal and we took zero risks!!

I really do wonder what Giggs was saying to LVG when they were discussing tactics on the bench after we went ahead 2-1. Probably what everyone else was thinking. Take Herrara off!!!!

If we lose the FA cup then I can't see how on earth Woody and Co can keep him. I would imagine a mass fan backlash. However, if we win it it could be hard for the board to fire him. One would hope LVG would feel happy with getting us a trophy and leave in a dignified manner. However, his arrogance suggests that probably wouldn't happen,.

I did and yes all valid points but FFS even LVG must be able to motivate a team for a FA Cup Final.

We lost at home against a worse Norwich team and failed to beat Newcastle at all this season, anything is possible in the final.

I haven't had one of those for a while but your analogy summed up the season for me mate.

It just feels like we're limping through games right now waiting for him/it to all be over. I know I am.

I pray to god the matchgoers finally show their discontent. How hard is it to show some emotion for your own club? I want a storm of boos when he enters the freaking pitch. It at least some chants towards him.

To be honest, the importance of last nights match was immense, not just for the club but for the players whose raison d'etre seems to be these days playing in the Champions League. If that wasn't motivation enough I don't know what is!

He should have gone at Christmas. Pointless exercise keeping him to the end of the season and accepting no European football for another year.

Also this rubbish about having trees planted so there is no wind on the training pitches. Funny thing Louis you will find it is windy in stadiums. They should have been learning to pass under the worst conditions not the best.

Those transfers he and Moyes made. Jesus Christ we threw Money out of the window....
I think they are good players individually, but it was a complete scattergun approach with no view as to whether they will actually compliment each other and be able to form a team. This isn't a team, it is a bunch of individuals.

LVG lacks motivation, passion and drive, and it is certainly reflecting onto the players that for sure. United had the lead and at that point they should of slow the tempo of the game and quiet the crowd, but LVG was sitting on his arse writing on his notepad doing nothing. He's just an average work boss who dictates but never motivates.

Would you sack him today? Let Giggs - or if he doesnt want to do it on an interim basis, Joyce or even Carrick - manage us for the final two games? Just for the feel-good factor of it?

I was never confident we would get 4th anyway, but I think we'll win the cup. I see no reason to act now, I dont see there's anything to gain from it. He'll be gone within a week of the season ending.
