Because the last 2 managers started late and it would be foolish to repeat the same and not look for ways to start preparing for next season early.

That's fair enough, but if Jose has a non-compete with Chelsea till June/July? He won't be able to start work anyway. Besides, how do we know if he isn't already making plans of his own? They can announce it but the amount of pro-active work that Jose can do essentially is the same as if we didn't. I might be terribly wrong.

I am a Rooney fan am I? How do you work that out?

I am pretty sure if you did a world wide poll an in form Rooney would come out on top over in form Berahino, Benteke and Rashford.

Are you really arguing otherwise??

PS by not understanding the "red up" terminology you already lost my universal football respect. Google is your friend!

This was the first result on my google search for " red up"

red up
Pittsburghese for "clean up".
"Hey yinz guys, I have to red up the house before heading dahntahn."

I'm curious? what does "red up" actually mean?

I bet he's planning next season already and scouting players he wants.

It's all about who will fit into the team and complement Fellaini's swinging elbows, somebody who can come on late and put in a two-footed lunge with studs up to regain a bit of pride when it's blatantly obvious that the team is exiting a cup.

Anything else just isn't the United Way.

Eagerly awaiting the meltdown

Course they will enjoy the kids, means they don't have to spend any money and we can finally turn into Arsenal. Keep saying how much money we have without actually spending much. Of course if the kids turn to crap next season he might not be so happy. We have seen this before where kids have a good spell, then go to rubbish. TFM it is far too early, CBJ will need to see how he comes back, also remember Shaw will be back next season we hope. Rashford is the one I have big hopes for. Januzaj and Pereira look like they are being phased out.

Nice to know Arnold lives up to the same standard of misguided ignorance as the rest of the people influencing our club. At least we're consistent in our idiocy at every level

I wouldn't worry about it - he doesn't even mention the manager.

I tried searching for it but couldn't find one above 17 pages which was then shut, but does anyone know how long the biggest moyes out thread got to? 545 pages and counting in this one for LVG, its one of the biggest threads on here and at this point there is not a lot of counter arguments. Are we at the point where we want him out more than we did Moyes?

Read the article and he didn't mention Van Gaal once. He praised the young players and said it was a credit to the academy.

He's right.

How did you come up with that? The article didn't indicate that at all.

The late, great Johan Cruyff on van Gaal:

Cruyff understood that part of my task was to steer him in the direction of addressing the position of Louis van Gaal, his old enemy who had been working as Manchester United’s manager for only a few months. He was reluctant to start another spat with the “militaristic” Van Gaal and so I asked Cruyff to expand on their contrasting perceptions of football.

“Now this is more interesting than me just saying Van Gaal is going to do a bad job,” Cruyff said. “I don’t care too much about that. We’re both Dutch but there is a big difference between us. I always think of being in charge of the speed and of the ball. Maybe he knows more than me but I always want control. When I don’t have control of the ball what do I do? I press to get it back. It’s a way of defending. But more important is that I like to have the ball. That’s why I believe in individual coaching sessions to prepare players properly. You have to take care of the individual for the benefit of the team – as our work with Pep Guardiola showed.”

FFS even dead people think he's shit.
I think they both like possession of the ball, however LvG it is all about keeping the ball, which then becomes a problem if you don't keep the ball, it is sacrilege to him. Cruyff it wasn't a disaster if you lost it, but that you had to hunt the ball down and press to get it back straight away. He wanted his team to have the opposition under constant pressure, that they couldn't settle into any rhythm and impose their game. That his side sets the pace of the game. Moving the ball quickly and with purpose.

They both insist on possession; difference is LvG hasn't a clue what to do with the ball in the final third. From the sound of Cruyff's comment, he seemed to favor a more pressing style to get the ball back, whereas LvG's teams don't appear to press nearly as much.

Well I think if memory serves, Cruyff had a big issue with LvG favouring team uniformity at all times over individuality and allowance for a player to express themself also.

I think we can presume that LvG wouldn't have had a Cruyff in his team. I have more and more respect for Cruyff the more I hear about him.

Ya.. assuming they didn't fall out immediately you could see LvG trying to strip Cruyff of his identity, turn him into a LvG Robot, You must not take someone on, you may lose the ball!, You may not try an incisive pass, you may lose the bal!l, You must pass to Antonio Valencia in a timely and efficient manner!

Don't you dare do that bloody turn again. Do you hear me?

The Dutch FA want him back apparently...

(MODS - not sure if this warranted its own thread or not so put it in here)

My hunch is that if LVG takes the job at the Dutch FA and the players know that we'll get a new manager in the summer, that performances will improve instantly. Top 4 could even be doable.

I'm very frustrated after seeing the Di Maria interview.

I will quote myself from the Di Maria thread:

He was our most prolific attacker (goals + assists).
If he was shit, then our entire team is shit (last year and this year).

The main points he made in the interview:
1. his position was changed constantly
2. he was not to blame and also other players were not to blame, for the average performances last season (ie. the manager is to blame)
3. MUFC sucked last season and they are sucking this season (with or without Di Maria in the team). Out of Europe. Can't compete for the title.
4. now at PSG, he is competing for trophies, playing in a fixed starting position and doing well.
5. he did not mention anything about a robbery.

I would love to hear interviews about our other attackers who are currently playing for us, of how they feel about LVG and his tactics.
This is the first interview we have seen, from a player who has played for us and LVG. And he happens to blame the LVG system.

Lets look at some facts.
Martial is our most prolific attacker, with 7 league goals. For comparison, Kane is on 19.
Memphis is struggling.
Rooney's goal tally is low (as are all of our attackers).
The 1-0 and 1-1 score lines.
We are one of the most boring teams in Europe.
And before someone says that LVG is improving and we can move up the table (and win the FA Cup): we have won, 1 game from our last 5, scoring a total of 3 goals. Average: 0.6 goals/game.

How is LVG still in a job?

DAMN YOU LVG!!! :o

he wont take the job , he has already told his wife this will be his last job.
My thoughts have been increasing that he will see out the last year of his contract. :(

Although Di Maria never really wanted to play for us that much it reflects badly on LVG that he didn't get the best out of him or help him settle. We shouldn't be flipping a player of that quality after 1 year.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I'm really struggling to get motivated for our remaining games, yes we could still get top 4, but if we do there is a good chance it'll save LvG his job, which is just a joyless feeling to have.

I remember this time last season I was watching our last few games with sweaty palms and a real anxiety, this time around its just not there, I want him gone, and if that means us finishing fifth to guarantee its done then so be it.

The detachment I feel atm is not right, but I'm just not excited for our games right now.

Same, beating City was slightly overshadowed by the fact that making 4th may mean another season of LVG. :nervous:

He's been in the press today, saying he's in danger if he doesn't make top four. Still seems completely convinced that top 4 is the only target he has to worry about.

My thoughts haven't changed, top four and he's finishing his contract here. A near miss and it'll be touch and go if there are other options still.
