This is the problem for LvG now, it only takes one loss for people to be right back on him again, a loss that people would have been more forgiving over if he has hadn't already put us through so much crap already this season.

On a side note I see Santiago is conspicuous by his absence tonight.

We were lucky to win the last game, too.

Then who do you think will take over and make us forget about this terrible time under LvG or were you just focusing on he'll be gone soon and all is well again.
Just said that it'll be over soon, meaning LVG's tenure. I don't know about the rest and frankly I don't care at the moment, we'll see what happens.

Typical LvG today, we go behind and he has no recourse, we just keep running into the electric fence like a retarded mutt, and when he does make subs they are often about as illogical as you can get.

But we fecking hoped we can at least salvage a top 4 finish this season (by appointing Mourinho) before he's gone! I'm afraid it will be already too late in the Summer. Another season with no CL because of some stupid stubborn management who is still looking to create the second SAF which doesn't exist!

The gamble is about to explode in our faces. There was a perfect time to sack in December and the club bottled that decision.

It's sad that I'm getting excited about the season nearly being over, I normally hate the last few games because I'm in for a boring summer. Twat.

Well 11 days from now we should all know whether we are still in the FA Cup and Europa, I have a strong feeling we'll be out of both and that was before today's shit show. Having our season in the shitter just before facing City away will be fecking awful and LvG will have nowhere to hide if we lose that game too.

I know this is all worse case scenario but could you imagine our season being finished mid March. LvG will have no more excuses then.

No way, if there's one thing LVG can do it's find a way to beat Liverpool, usually inspired by De Gea saving everything and us taking our 1 shot on target:lol:

It's sad that, after we lose our 8th PL game of the season (Same number as Everton and Liverpool, one less then Chelsea - though weirdly, also the same as City) away against West Brom after an insipid performance, I am 100% certain he will be our manager on Monday.

We were lucky to win the last game, too.

Agreed, if anything this was more encouraging because it was 10 v 11 for so long.

Could barely comprehend what I saw at OT during the week. Watford could honestly have had 5 or 6 goals on our patch if not for De Gea, and the officials missing 2 penalties.

He can lose the next 5 games and still be Manchester United manager.

Well he (LVG) took us from 7th to 4th. Unremarkable but still progress at that time.
It's extremely depressing when 7th to 4th is progress for United. Especially when we go out after the group stage the following year. It just feels all 3 years have been pretty much wasted.

It's infuriating how incapable we are of getting a result away from home. We have lost more away games in the league than we have won and have a negative goal difference as well. More often than not we're shit at home as well, but at least we're one of the best home teams in the league , results-wise. City have won 31 points at home in 15 games and we have amassed 28 points from 14. In Europe things are the same - only one win against Brugges, 1 draw and 3 defeats.

It's clearly down to Van Gaal. He makes idiotic decisions time and time again and even though they always backfire, he keeps repeating them. He's the definition of stubborness and cluelessness yet he's a smug fecker every time we manage to win a game as if he's proved everyone wrong and expects an apology.

I'm sure he'll use the Mata red card as protection from criticism, but our play was shit before the dismissal and even shitter afterwards. Liverpool are shit, but at least they showed some spirit today and managed to turn the game vs Palace around with 10 men. We didn't even create a cleal goalscoring chance against a worse side that had no intention to attack all game, let alone score 2 goals. Arsenal also managed to get back into the game against Spurs with a man down. We can't we do the same thing teams that aren't really better than us do?

Why take Herrera off instead of Carrick when we're chasing a goal? Why making us endure Darmian and Blind for the majority of the game despite them being an absolute embarrassment? Why not even put Varela on for the final 10 minutes to add some energy and attacking quality on the wing if we assume he was too tired to start?

We just need a better manager. It's that simple.

I think your post says everything. We always say that we shouldn't take football personally, but this was a game where I was personally offended by the sheer stupidity our manager displayed when it should've been an easy 3 points going in. By stupidity, I mean making idiotic decisions while he thinks he's clever. Even with our shortcomings, WBA can't shine our shoes in terms of player quality and Pulis's crew did literally nothing - not a thing - to win this game, even with one of our players off. LVG's planning and in-game decisions are so beyond awful that he kills any impetus we have and sets things up for the opponent to win.

No exaggeration, I am seriously amazed how a person who is paid this amount of money can keep making the same idiotic decisions over and over and over and over again, stay employed, and then act like a smug bastard when his team manages to win a game for him against Shrewsbury Town and Watford. His arrogance at this stage truly makes me sick. He should watch Ranieri a little bit on how to act with modesty. He can use getting brought down a couple of notches.

Mourinho might only want to start in the summer and reports have suggested Guggs don't want an interim role.
Frustrating as it is perhaps we didn't have many options?
Chances could be bigger if we were determined enough to offer him a contract just after his Chelsea departure, a sort of polite ultimatum that the job is now for the taking or perhaps never.

I'm speculating as hell but I don't think he would reject us after so many kind words he addressed at the club and SAF during the last five years... which kinda brings me back to 'we've done that to ourselves'... at least partially. Chelsea managed to get such experienced guy like Hiddink and they were in way more complicated situation. The giant must awaken someday but so far it's waiting for something miraculous to happen.

agreed.

The league is currently topped by Leicester. Sure, having better players helps and I do agree that we lack quality, but there's more to it than just that.
Absolutely. The difference between us and Leicester however, sad as it may sound, is that they have more players than us capable of influencing the outcome of a match. Mahrez, Vardy and Kante have all performed far and above any of our players have this season. Having players like that, match winners, as I pointed out that we're lacking, in turn elevates the rest of the pack to perform near their absolute ceiling.

If we had three players performing anywhere near their levels, we would have top four shored up at this point.

The key word is performance. The Leicester team is not better than ours on paper. But what they lack in quality they have more than compensated for in spirit and performances. The absolute lack of it is what's going to cost us this season.

He lays the blame for the loss entirely on the red card, conveniently forgetting how utterly dreadful we were prior to the sending off.

Nothing on how he broke up a winning team in order to rest players for... wait for it... the Europa League (shows his lack of ambition by putting that mickey mouse cup ahead of the premier league) or how reverted to playing possesion based football with little to no attacking intent for 90 minutes - which is precisely the opposite to how we won our last 3 games.

I would be amazed if there were still people among us who feel LVG can still turn it around. Even my brother (a pro LVG spaz) has finally lost faith.

I'm guessing that if we had those three, we still wouldn't look as good as Leicester.

I can't believe I just said we can't match Leicester. Oh well.

Talked about how organized we were and how we didn't let them create any more chances other than the goal, completely ignoring the fact that they didn't have any intention to attack and also, as you said, didn't mention how fecking dreadful we were. Too predictable.

Over the last 5 games we've been happier than we have been in months. During those games, we played Shrewsbury, Watford, Midtjylland and Arsenal (who were in a big game so they count as a crap team).

It's pretty obvious that the recent optimism here was temporary due to an easier run of games and the shock of a youth product making an impact like Rashford has but in the long term, we're not going to achieve anything of note as long as LVG is here.

I agree, we're performing far from what we should. That said, can you honestly say that we have any players in our team who, at this moment, have it in them to perform the way those three Leicester players I mentioned have been doing consistently throughout the season?

Rooney had it in him at one point, but he's been a busted flush for years. Mata is a decent player, but if his time with us has shown us anything, he's a piece that works best in a functioning machine, and not a catalyst. In midfield we've had high hopes for Schneiderlin and Herrera, who have looked incapable of performing at the highest level this season, for whatever reason, while both Carrick and Schweinsteiger's peaks are in the rear view mirror.

In defense we have a Smalling who's been as good as we could have hoped, or even better, this season, while Blind is quite clearly a liability at centre back at this level, while Shaw's injury has been a blow, and Darmian possibly could be a decent player long term, but I doubt he'll be another Evra (who was of that potential match winner level).

In summary, I think it's fair to say that even at the start of the season, we were putting all our chips on Rooney to rediscover the form of years gone by, and Memphis to become an instant hit. At that point, we would have been at the bare minimum in terms of match winners in our squad. As it stands, both of those bets failed, miserably, and Martial has stepped up more than anyone could have expected and saved us from absolute disaster.

I'm guessing that if we had those three, we still wouldn't look as good as Leicester.

If we had those three, they probably wouldn't be performing anywhere near the level they're currently doing at Leicester, so I'm inclined to agree with you :(

Exactly I think our luck may run out. I fancy us beating them at OT, losing at their shed and going out on away goals. It would sum up our season.

Could you imagine this season if De Gea had left, I think we'd be about 15th.

His three substitutions today included an attempt to hold out for a 0-0 tie, a like for like offensive change, and an attempt to hold on to a 0-1 defeat ? I really can't fathom what he thought the point of bringing Fosu-Mensah on was.

Not to mention Memphis finally gains some form and he benches him, Rashford scores some goals so he pushes him to the wing, Schneiderlin and Herrera have been doing well so he benches Morgan. I really just have no idea what LVG is doing. I'm fairly certain his next effort to fix this will be to start Fellaini.

Almost his entire time here has been a clusterfeck. Even with some of the things he's done well like the brilliant run last season, the blooding of young players etc., have either been forced on him or have come about due to inadvertence. He suddenly landed on Fellaini playing in that outside left position. He's now rewriting history on how many young players he's brought through and why when, for most of his time here, he's preferred underperforming older players. He's had the best keeper - who, by some reports, he wasn't even keen on when he arrived - in the world keeping him in a job even though he was basically gone on deadline day to be replaced by a significant downgrade.

He consistently makes players worse than their ability and the team is less than the sum of its parts. He'll leave the club worse than when he arrived with another rebuilding job needed, even though that was apparently what we brought him in for. His eye for a player looks to have deserted him. He seems incapable of inspiring the players. He's a big part of the rot that has set in at the club. He's no longer a great manager. If we are to live up to our constant grandstanding it might not be a bad idea to actually a manager who adds more than he takes.

We would have signed Navas and he is pretty good goalkeeper.

This is true to a degree but I'd put Chinny, Mahrez, Kante and Huth in our first 11 for sure as some of our players lack a whole lot more than spirit.

-----------De Gea
Varela Smalling Huth BoJack
-----Schneiderlin Kante
----Mahrez Mata Martial
------------Vardy

We'd win the league with this team and no van Gaal of course.

The Arsenal win was what gave the fans (myself included) hope. Arsenal were dreadful in that game and Rashford was brilliant. Watford should have scored about 5 against us if Ighalo had his shooting boots on. Our good wins were against Shrewsbury and Midtillyand (enough said). The only positive of LVG's reign is some youngsters (Varela, Fosu-Mensah, Borthwick-Jackson, Rashford) may end up being top first team players.

With José Mourinho twiddling his thumbs in the background, could the club seriously countenance Louis van Gaal still being in charge if Liverpool were to dump us out of the Europa League and leapfrog us in the Premier League?

After Arsenal, fans lauded a real Utd performance. LVG saw it as "too risky" and promptly sucks the life out of them again.

Therein lies the problem. It's never going to work. Has been obvious for a long time.

Yeah but he is no De Gea. It's like losing Messi and getting Di Maria, good but not outstanding.

Maybe but he is good enough to make most of the saves made by De Gea, it would have been as catastrophic as people pretend.

Almost as bad as the Moyes season for me. Just a completely wasted season. Can't wait til he's replaced.

Would the team need a detox from van Gaalism if he got the sack or it that overstating his impact?

I think it's overstating. We've had good performances under him, even if they have been few and far between. We need a manager who plays to their strengths and allows them to build from one game to the next. Everything has been abortive under LVG.

and... back to square one.
