Let's keep him for now and see if he can bring in some new players in January. If this rot continues into the spring then I would want a new manager such as Ancelotti well in time for the summer.

He won't go anywhere midseason unless it becomes mathematically impossible to get top 4. If that happens at any point he'll be gone.

The club are idiots if they do that, rather than actually save the season while they can.

He's had 3 transfer windows, and hundreds of £ms of pounds. Why do you think he will be able to change it this January (the toughest window to get good/great plauers), when he's failed in the 18 months before that?

Ugh, Giggs. It goes from bad to worse. I'd rather keep Van Gaal for another 3 years.
Well to be fair, the article does say we'd keep Van Gaal for an extra year so you'd get your 3 years as well as Giggs after
Basically a worst case scenario that

Looking at his Wiki page, I think his achievements are blown out of proportion by most, apart from his time at Ajax where he had world class players, since then his career has been pretty underwhelming, especially considering the great teams he was in charge of. And also I dont buy into this whole he leaves a foundation for the next manger which makes that manger be so successful. Its annoying when people repeat the same thing over and over, and than state it in their posts like its a fact

You can't really take what he did at Ajax away from him in fairness. It was 20 years ago mind.

He did do well in his first spell with Barca, and did very well to win the title with AZ. Started well with Bayern, although worryingly faded rather quickly.

So, I officially wanted him sacked after the game... but then I didn't want to say anything, as I figured it may have just been a reaction to the game/heat of the moment kinda thing.

Couple of hours later and I my opinion hasn't changed. The man just does far too many idiotic things then should be acceptable for any football manager... let alone the manager of Manchester United.

Schteve also won one with FC Twente the following season...

Couldn't help feeling a little uneasy by the usual "You only come to see United" chant when we levelled at 1-1.

We've been utter gash to watch for a long time now, if we give him more time, he's just gonna shore up his gash'ness even further and we will be totally down a blind alley with more work for the next manager to do to rebuild.

I just don't think Pep has been tested yet. But this fella's a loon.

Sam allardyce would do a better job of using Fellaini as a target man. feck LVG now I've had enough and I've been a LVG supporter since he joined. Enough is enough and his head has to roll because of how he thinned the squad. He's blaming injuries but he's the one who chose to have a small squad. Buck stops with him.

LVG OUT.

Even though we are in the midst of an injury crisis we still had enough quality to beat fecking Bournemouth today. Van Gaal has had 3 windows to get this club firing and he's failed. We've stupidly gone after the wrong transfer targets with Ramos being the biggest mistake instead of us making a play for someone like Laporte. Our failure to land a taller striker with some presence and ability to score in the air is another failure. These last few games are supposed to be ones that are money in the bank before we play all the bigger sides in the 2nd half of the year. Anything other than a win over Norwich next week and he's gone.

Is anyone actually arguing for LVG to stay another 18 months? I've got a die hard United friend who even thought Moyes should be given more time but thinks LVG should be sacked before he wakes up tomorrow morning.

Don't let the door hit on the way out, your dated tactics and military attitude don't wash in modern day football.

We thank you for having the balls to clear the deadwood but that's that. It's time we both moved on.

His methods are outdated and he genuinely doesn't seem to be able to make a change when it's crying out for one. I think he's become an outdated dinosaur, a spoofer

For those who want LVG out, right away, who do you feel should replace him?
Giggs is the only candidate available and he would be another "Moyes level" appointment.

For me, LVG has every opportunity (once our injury crisis is over), to get back into the top 3.
Already, we are playing attacking football, having made 50 shots at goal in our last 3 games. This is a massive improvement.
It sucks that the injuries kicked in, just as we were becoming an attacking side.

I certainly feel that this should be LVG's last season BUT we must replace him with a quality manager (good CV) and this is our problem.
Sacking LVG now, and putting Giggs in charge means we have given up on top 3 and we are not at that point yet.

I'll be dramatic and say I reckon he will be gone within the next two weeks.

I genuinely think that momentum and morale is as low as the end of the Moyes reign right now and the feeling amongst us fans is very reminiscent of how it was then.

Could we not get Ancelotti in now?

The reality is that he won't get sacked until it is mathematically certain we won't be getting top 4, as was the case with Moyes.

Can't see it happening any other way, unfortunately.

We surely won't make that mistake again. It's clear the players have stopped playing for him. Just put us all out of our misery.

Aside from the lack of scoring punch (a problem that has obviously been a major factor for the entire campaign), can we really blame LvG for today's loss? Yeah sure you could say Young should have been on the pitch, but I would rather see what we have in the youngsters rather than plug him in as a full back. I really can't blame him for the loss, as we have so many injuries to our back line that it is ridiculous. Yea sure we can say Smalling, Shaw and Jones have all been injury prone and therefore it is necessary to have additional reinforcements, but it would have been impossible to predict that Rojo and Darmian would also be out at the same time. For today, at least, I'll give him a pass, but I still do think he should see out the end of this season, thanked for his services, and then have Pep come in (hopefully).

Regardless, heavy investment needs to be made on players who are already in their prime (Griezz, Neymar, etc.) or about to, rather than continuously buying youth after youth (however well they may perform). Only after we have shored up these positions can we focus on buying players like Tielemans, who I think at this point should be a luxury signing rather than a focal point. Otherwise we will keep going in circles I think, regardless of who the manager is.

Regardless of the injuries and the team that we put out, at the end of the day we lost to fecking Bournemouth.

That is beyond inexcusable, in my opinion, and doesn't warrant a pass.

Whoever enjoys LVG's football needs to see doctors.

DOCTOR: "I'm sorry to inform you that you're suffering from Louis van Gaal's Philosophy.
But don't worry - the attacks are extremely rare."

For me the straw that broke the camel's back was the home PSV match. Up to that point I wasn't fully behind him but was in the "evaluate at the end of the season" camp. My own questions began about him after that utter farce at Arsenal but naively put that down to a bad day at the office.

Like at Chelsea at the moment I think there are more factors at play behind the scenes. I get the distinct sense Ryan Giggs and him don't get along. Don't have concrete proof but it's just the feeling I get when I watch them both in the dugout.

All the points regarding LVG have been covered in people's posts in this thread up to now but I feel he has to go before he is allowed to spend any more money in January. I also reckon on Monday we will be out of the top four.

Bournemouth had just as many players on the sidelines. It's not as if our play is better when we have all of our first team players fit. The ''philosophy'' is the main problem, though the players need to take some responsibility as well.

We just had to press them more in their own half. We did it a few times and every time they made silly mistakes yet we didn't expose their weaknesses enough for some reason. They were there for the taking, especially in the first half when our play was decent.

The less said about the second half the better, but it pretty much sums up our season so far.

Van Gaal needs to go before our season is fecked up beyond repair. The last thing we need is another season without Champions League football. Thinking about the title is pointless, regardless of our position in the league.

I'm not sure they necessarily don't get along, but I'm not sure they're exactly an ideal pairing either: they were essentially just thrown together, because we wanted LVG as manager, but wanted to keep Giggs in an important coaching role.

It's probably not a particularly massive issue, but there's definitely a sense that they've just kind of been mashed together for the sake of it. LVG's very much his own man anyway, and comes across as quite stubborn, so I expect that while Giggs has plenty of football knowledge, it's unlikely to particularly matter because LVG is ultimately going to persevere with his own decisions anyway.

And while we don't know what Giggs' exact plans are, if he is aiming for the job when LVG leaves and aims to be here long-term, I doubt he'd be the type to openly challenge LVG, or kick up much of a fuss.

I don't think they dislike each other, but if they weren't to particularly be in contact again once LVG leaves, or Giggs potentially leaves, then I wouldn't be overly surprised either, essentially.
