He still has to go when the season is up, think we need a new manager. But? with 11 games to go and seeing the table, if we some how make the top 4, woodward will probably keep him and extend his contract. It was one hell of a win, but still should not change the fact he needs to move on when the season is up. Looking at city, they look like there is not much life left in them at this rate

Everyone should change their vote to "evaluate at end of season"

It's already come down a bit since full time

Both these things are very true, I feel.

If these couple of games do turn out to be a change of form, rather than just another break in our being shite, and we get the Champions League qualification, I would hope we stick with him.

Think we have already signed Mourinho. We could have won the title if we had simply played to our strength instead of all the possession BS.

Why? I haven't bothered changing my vote off of it, but I'm struggling to see why one league win warrants a change of opinion. Of course, I'm hoping we can now replicate that and we've shown some massively promising signs, but it's far from a game changer.

My guess would be we have 'an agreement in principle'... meaning if LVG doesn't produce a miracle then we send Jose the already agreed terms and he signs.

I think he needs to go if we don't make top 4, HOWEVER, anyone who thinks he was holding the players back is, simply put, slow. Our senior players have been shite all season with the exception of a few. They've shown no desire. They were not challenging for 50/50 balls until recently. They were not chasing play. They were not completing passes and they weren't doing much of anything but suck.

Suddenly we start fielding 15 year olds, and they are playing their heart out, and all of a sudden everyone is chasing every ball, even Mata is getting stuck into 50/50's. JUAN "I RUN FROM CONTACT 99.9% OF THE TIME" MATA. The "philosophy" whatever that is, hasn't changed. The players are just playing now, and it's taken a bunch of kids to light a fire under everyones asses. They see their opportunity and they are running away with it.

Lingard got his chance early, and he's been consistently our most positive attacking player aside from Martial. Taking huge risks and playing wildly aggressively (and pretty wastefully on top of that).

Maybe LvG hasn't motivated them properly, and it's taken the enthusiasm and the threat of kids taking their jobs that has gotten some of our senior players in gear. Then again, these are professionals getting paid millions of dollars. If you need a crazy old dude who barely speaks English to get you fired up to go play a kids game and make millions doing it, you're a thundercnut.

Before we get our panties in a twist over our last two games let's wait a bit longer, we had some false dawns before.

Still this time seems a bit different, we play with much more purpose and directness now without totally giving up control of the game.

Let's wait and see. Mou won't be coming before next season anyways.

do you still think the philosophy is something else
Arent their reports of him asking players not to shoot first time and always take a touch.
We play a lot of keepball too. Try and control the game way too much... and it slows us down.

That is what I was talking about..

It didnt work out too badly when that is what we needed to do ( end of the match)

As I said before LVG doesn't get off his seat because it is the players duty to read the game & not his.

In we win our next three league games playing like that and we perform well against Liverpool in the EL then I'll definitely do it, but I'm holding off at the moment because we've been here before. It personally took me a while to say "sack him" and it'll take me time before I will change from that - but the last couple of games have been fantastic and I'm glad the players are still behind him.

He should still go, but last two games have been good.

Only scenario where he stays is if United can't get someone (that's not Giggs) in.

I don't care about him getting off his seat.
Our attacking play has been really poor for most of the season. There is almost no pace to our game.
When that changes and we play faster, we usually look good.

We dont need 65% possession to play good football.
That is something Van Gaal likes.. and in an ideal world, a team can control the game and have that attacking edge to open teams up.. Barca do it brilliantly.
But it wasnt working for us.. And he stuck to his way of playing for way too long. Still probably does..
The kids just dont know it yet.

That is the one. We've had a good few supposed changes in our fortunes. I would suggest this is the most believable yet but I still remain rather sceptical.

Those results against Norwich, Bournemouth, Sunderlamd etc. were awful, and the performances were shit for months. We were pitiful in the CL too. That's too recent a memory for me to change my mind yet.

What are you talking about? Barcelona relied on possesion more than anyone.

Anyway even if possesion football is not the best football to play - it is the best football to teach with.

Yep, spot on. I'd say I was quite late on for jumping onto the sacking bandwagon, but I really don't think one league win is enough to completely change my opinion on that. He's been notoriously terrible against smaller teams in the league, so we need to see him get us on a consistent run of form.

Watford at home will be interesting. The pressure will be on the kids and LVG now, so we'd see how they deal with that. Those type of games we been struggling in this season. We'd be going into that game expected to win.

feck your mind. Hopefully the big boys at United see that LVG will make something phenomenal even if he isnt the best manager to take them to titles.

He did it at barca, bayern and now your seeing something here.

For the people who say LVG wasn't such a big deal & just gave debuts to iniesta, muller, xavi & alaba.. Just think. Is it actually just a coincidence.

Yup, dead right. Same for me on the bolded part.

In fact, given how things have gone before, we need to play like this in just about every much every match untio the end of the season to make me confident that keeping him would be the right choice.

He's certainly salvaged the "amazing with youngsters" part of his reputation, but I'm still worried that when we get £200m worth of talent back fit they'll all be shit again.

What ever happens now, I think many will remember LvG as the manager who gave many of our young players the chance. He is really good with the young players tbf.

Where was this LVG in the last 20 months?
These kids are the ones that gets LVG. They are willing to be shaped. This is what he has been trying to do since he got here. Get the academy and youth players playing in such a way that when he calls them, they will know what he wants. The kids are responding, there will be down times, but the team and the fans have to give LVG TIME!. This is the longest it has taken him to shape his team. The challenge was bigger than he anticipated. He did not know he had so many weak players. The kids are showing up and the question should not be where was this, but why the so called older player were not willing to pass forward.

Yeah those two thunderous wins against Shrewsbury and Midtylland had me teetering over the edge but one win against Arsenal and some hilarious antics on the touchline have really got me swayed, contract extension for sure.

Anybody being 'won over' by that clearly had no real intention of wanting him sacked in the first place and are usually the first to post some 'told ya so' nonsense the minute we do anything that isn't utterly rubbish. The long game for LVG was lost a long time ago for me and nothing will change that fact, but hey another 'upswing in form' really changes everything. Remember how we revived our title challenge after beating Liverpool? What a turnaround that was.

Until we lose pathetically to another bottom feeder of course.

I'm worried about that too.

We have, my love. This is what sport can do to our adorable souls.
I'm just going to start watching darts. That way if someone asks who I support I can just say "the fat one" and I'll have covered all bases.

I agree with this. The kids today were just hungry, getting after the Arsenal player and played with no fear. Rashford just trying to bust the Arsenal CBs, Depay running hard to the by line and Varela settling Sanchez down. We just showed more passion and commitment than the Gooners, who were just puss*es today.

Play with that kind of passion and commitment and there will/would be no need for this thread, even if results aren't always positive.

It's been lacking until now, hence the negativity.

He has earned some brownie points with me today. Beat Arsenal, had faith in the kids and showed some passion on the touchline.

Is he the right man to be charge? No

Call me a cynic but I don't believe there was a big plan behind this. Injuries have forced him to play the kids and we've been very lucky that they've responded this well to the challenge. But we're playing well at the moment, so LVG deserves credit for that. The next few months will tell us if this group of youngsters is the real deal. If he can get them playing like this more often than not, he can take a lot of pride in that.

If we keep playing like this for most of what's left while continuously playing youth I'd reconsider my vote, but it might already be too late for better or worse. I just hope, if Mourinho comes, that the youth still have a proper chance. It's wonderful.

There will be lows, but this is how he motivates young people, it is just about them that their careers are on the line and they are tied with his fate. After that, they hungry and horny will rise to the top.
