If LVG generally thinks that the club aren't going behind his back out of some respect then this news could be a game changer. If he believed that he would be still in with a job next year and now there is an agreement with Jose then he could walk. Doubt it, but food for thought.

LVG is not an idiot.
He knows that the results are absolutely terrible - akin to a team fighting relegation.
And as such, he knows what the consequences of this are.

He got fired from Bayern and Barca, for exactly the same reason - poor results - so, this is not a new situation to him. He knows what's what.

...Moyes on the other hand, had never been in this situation, so when he got canned, he was genuinely surprised.

I'd rather we became a sacking club than a mediocre one, Dave.

If we are finally getting rid I hope it's done in the best way possible.

By firing a t-shirt out of a cannon from the top of the North Stand at LVG, whilst he's sat in the dugout overseeing a 0-0 draw with Midgetland, with "you're fired" printed on it?

That's a pretty cool way to go.

Ahh, the Maude Flanders way of doing things. I like it!

Not one word from the club, not one.

What is there to say?

We denied meeting Guardiola a few weeks ago, people still assumed it happened.
If we support LVG, people will say it's the dreaded vote of confidence.

You can't win. Unless it's a sacking or an appointment, there's no point in saying anything.

They own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL, and that team has been a complete mess for years under their ownership.

They are consistently one of the worst teams in the league.

They did have a couple of good years under Tony Dungy and Gruden.

Yes Rio. Studs up tackle on Van Garbage. Had to be said. Legend.

I think that studs up tackle did nothing to LVG at all, unfortunately. It's like playing an off form Rooney week in and out and doesn't get dropped. Wait, sorry, that has happened.

He's ekeing out as much money from his contract as he can. As it stands he can lose and draw the next 50 matches and stay in a job so you can't blame him. The board are a bunch of imbecilic morons

According to Steve Bates the board are penny pinching, they won't move until Champions League qualification is out of reach. If Mou came in now I wouldn't bet against us to win the Europa League. To save some cash though the board are happy to let our season go up in smoke. Its crazy.

That is exactly what we will be if managers start coming and going through a revolving door.We are not Madrid .

No - we should just get a manager worthy of keeping. Sacking clubs, imo, are clubs like City who have binned Pellegrini and Mancini for no good reason. There's nothing wrong with sacking someone who isn't capable of doing the job.

That is exactly what is happening, just like David Moyes, when it's teqhnically impossible they will. Which makes this entire board a shambles

Been scratching my head about what they're waiting for. Frankly, I doubt anyone can be such a massive imbecile, know-nothing or just stubborn as we're seeing the Board of United being. These are intelligent people and so there's got to be some reasoning somewhere. Let's face it, just not agreeing on whether to give it to Giggs or Mourinho can't be it. If that were so major, they'd be better off sacking LvG and asking Giggs to take over - with an eval at season's end and this would have been done in December itself. So, there's something more. Also, surely after the run of results since December (2+ months now), the two sides could have reached a compromise or reached an agreement or had the top guy applying his veto?

The argument on ESPN a couple of days ago was interesting where some of the panelists seemed to believe that the Board had indeed agreed on Mourinho, but he's demanded changes to be shown in terms of bringing in seniors to lead the scouting team, potentially a DoF etc. and show commitment to invest in these areas before he takes over.

Still doesn't explain the lack of sacking in favour of a caretaker of course, but seems more plausible than a Board that just has no clue about what to do. Also, the very even and consistent leaks to the Press about Mou seem to be coordinated by the Club. It's similar to what preceded the Moyes sacking.

Ok another potential spin:

Maybe we don't want to 'sack' LVG - rather mutual agreement etc.
LVG wants time (i.e. till the summer) so we have agreed to hold on - so technically we haven't 'sacked' him.

how can moneymen believe that we save money by waiting until something is impossible to achieve, rather that try to achieve said goal by being proactive?

The whole idea of we wont sack VG until it is impossible to qualify for CL is not only flawed, but idiotic from the board. Why? there is no way we could keep VG after this, and to keep VG on if he some how got the top 4 is just not possible to keep him on, but its a case of we were beyond lucky and its time to change before things really go terrible in finding the right manager when they are hard to come by, and I think VG would agree to depart if we some how got that top 4, one way or another VG is gone this summer. We factor in performance levels are at an all time low, we are a joke on the pitch. There is blips in form, like what we see under Ferguson in the 2001/02 season, where united went on that catastrophic run of games between October and December, which was our all time low was losing to west ham at OT after losing to chelsea 3-0 in the previous game at OT, but Ferguson really told some hard truth's and the run we went on was sensational, that is what great managers do when you are stuck in a bad run of games, certain managers change to improve results or he motivates them, which Fergie questioned the teams hunger to keep going, but? then there is what VG and then Moyes before him showed, its at a point of no return where they cant or refuse to change to get back on track, because they are incapable of evolving, or not or have lost the dressing room. There is a lack of character and spine from this team, to get on that pitch and show any potential in games to win, we are guaranteed we will fail to win atleast one game in 3

I refuse to believe we not sacking him due to compensation. We stand to lose more next season from not being in the champions league.

Bates' story is believable in part if you're of the opinion that the boardroom members at United are incredibly daft, but - the cost of removing Van Gaal, and paying his residual wages is dwarfed by the revenues we'll lose out on by virtue of being out of the Champions League (broadcasting, match-day, losing faith among the sponsors after underachieving in terms of the most basic sporting target for an elite club, and so forth). Maybe a difference of £7.3-£10 million vs £50 million (extremely conservative estimate even if we end up playing in the Europa League - could be a bit higher this time around to boot). Surely they're not that dim/ desperate chancers?

It was clear to anyone that wasn't deluded as early as mid January that we weren't going to qualify to the CL during Moyes tenure. Yet we stuck with him for four more months.

I dont think we kept him simply to save on compensation.

I think in their own twisted mind, the board members really did believe that Van Gaal could turn things around. It's also likely that they wasnt any contingency plan , which kinda reinforced the idea to stick by him. He'd gotten 4th place the previous season, after a wobble , so perhaps in their minds, we'd shake this off and they would look great by sticking with their manager in tough times.

Things have gone pear shaped since then and the board now look like mugs. The plan now appears to just let him see out the season with a dignified exit. Sadly, Van Gaal is not going out with any dignity whatsoever.

Why? It has happened before. We are run by people who clearly defy logic.

I mean they are painted like money whore trio first, then its said how they rather lose more money by not achieving a goal then to make a decision before so they could achieve their goal.

Either they have no faith in giggs to take over until the season is over, or they do not want to pay for VG's compensation, so they see it has we know we are not going to get CL football so they counting down the days when its impossible they can sack him then. They probably have agreed to Mourinho one way or another, they are just going for cost effectiveness and sacking VG when there is no hope getting CL football, which at this rate I can see us finishing 8th or 9th

The most logical reason LVG hasn't been sacked is that Giggs doesn't want an interim role but won't get the full-time job and the board are after a manager that won't be free until the summer (Pochettino, Simeone, Allegri). Not sure if it is likely but it is the most likely reason as to why LVG hasn't been sacked yet.
