They own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL, and that team has been a complete mess for years under their ownership.

They are consistently one of the worst teams in the league.

Careful with these comparisons, the Buccaneers were QBless which was their main problem, they have been decent this season.

Winston will most likely come good eventually and he will play a large role in them improving, but the myriad of poor personnel decisions for many years is hard to ignore.

For example, firing Lovie Smith this past season when it was clear that they were improving under him, was widely regarded as a dumb move. Whether that came directly from the Glazers, who knows.

To be fair, their main problem wasn't being QB-less - so much as the Glazer family's lack of sporting knowledge and acumen to monitor the direction in which the franchise was headed. I mean yes, GMs make the moves, but you gotta observe how they're performing instead of giving them the carte blanche to do whatever the hell they want - that right should only be reserved for personnel managers who have proven themselves to be successful at their job. They thought trading 2 First Round Picks and 2 Second Round picks for Gruden was a good idea, I mean fair enough - in the short term, they won a SuperBowl, but that handicapped him once the defense declined. Then, they didn't put quality GMs + scouts or coaches in place. Passing on Rodgers (worked him out with Jerry Rice) for Cadillac Williams, drafting for needs - Gaines Adams in a class with Peterson, Revis, Willis, Lynch; appointing their DB coach as the HC, appointing a coach from Rutgers as the HC, appointing a rubbish GM in Dominik, bringing in players with character issues and not monitoring them properly, then proceeding to let players walk just because the GM was more stringent with character issues - ref. Bennett, Blount, Talib; restricting free agent spending in the mid to late 2000s, blackouts due to fan disenchantment. The troubles ran very, very deep - and a lot of it was down to poor leadership/ perception on their part. A hands off approach works best only when you put the proper infrastructure in - something they failed to do for about a decade - and you're kind of seeing shades of that with United too.

They fired him because their defense wasn't good despite the fact that Lovie Smith is a defensive minded coach, on top of that they rate Koetter and it was a way of keeping him in the organization. I probably wouldn't have made the moves they made but they are both understandable, also Smith love for Tampa 2...

That I can agree with, they have a problem with letting to much freedom to the wrong people.

I've defended him for the longest time, but the Europa League game was the first time I wondered if it would be best if he left. He's clearly going nowhere with this. I read that he quoted Murphy's Law after the game, it would explain his tenure here actually.

This thread has been coasting along, hasn't it? We're talking about a different sport!

Fair points, especially the Tampa 2

Feels like after boxing day again.... I hope we don't end up with the same result...

Watch him ''save'' his job again with a 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury in spite of all these reports.

oh dear fecklord, gimme more leaks. I need a happy United-feel again.

You got any more news?

Just from yesterday when a former United player liked a status with a suggestion that Mourinho could be or new manager. He is kind of private, so was a strange like. Made my day when I saw that.

If LVG generally thinks that the club aren't going behind his back out of some respect then this news could be a game changer. If he believed that he would be still in with a job next year and now there is an agreement with Jose then he could walk. Doubt it, but food for thought.

This was happening when Gaurdiola was joining MCFC. He wasn't admitting anything, but other people "in the know" were already announcing that Guardiola to MCFC was a done deal.
Anyway, the same is happening with Jose (to MUFC), right now.
