we aren't playing that fecking good just better than the shit served up earlier

Very good point.
Some fans believe that we are playing league winning football right now. We aren't.
For 2 games (that's all), we played above average...not great, but good.
The truth is that after winning/losing every game in December, some fans think that getting a 1-1 draw with Chelsea or beating Derby, puts us in league winning form..

LVG is a top 4-5 manager and the rate at which we are gaining points, is exactly that of a top 4-5 team.
Fans need to ask themselves - do they accept 4th/5th place. If so, then they should stick by LVG, because he should be able to achieve those positions.

Let's see, we beat Stoke 3-0, satisfying, but Everton also managed that, on a cold night away from home.

We drew with Chelsea, Watford managed the same a few days ago.

Didn't the stories originate abroad, if yes our reporters are only repeating them. They didn't make them up. The BBC are usually very particular what they say, so the sources were likely reputable. If it is the club leaking the stories then that is a different matter and LvG does not have the support he thinks he does.
I believe the support for him will change just like they changed for SAF 1899 and 1990 by wining the FA Cup. LVG is old, but what he is doing is very similar to what SAF did back then. I guess this is LVG's fate, he rebuild Ajax, Barca, Bayern. It has always been the same everywhere he goes, when he went to Bayern and embedded the youth into the team, they struggled at the beginning.
We must be patient. Get replacement from the youth for Mata, Fellaini and this team will shock people.
Regardless of where the story originated from, it is embarrassing for our club to put our manager in this position. If not true, I would like the club to make a statement call this nonsense. Mourihno is a just a hot girl friend, with a bad attitude, you know you are just knocking boobs with. You don't married that.

He is not. The speculations and the story is so disrespectful. If we are doing this, then we are losing our way and I don't want to believe SAF is ok with this.
You make some good points @championo - I'm a little uneasy with this whole thing tbh. But I'm not sure what we do. I thought I saw the beginnings of something earlier in the season when everyone said we were boring - this caused I think the player's to lose confidence and start questioning the manager's methods. Unfortunately, the manager couldn't control this at the time and we end up 6 points off the Champs League spots now. The club has a lot of sponsors they need to keep happy, so it's difficult to balance this with giving someone time to implement what LVG is trying to do. I think we could eventually have something very good - but you simply don't get time for that in football now.

As for the speculations being disrespectful - 100% with you there. Unfortunately I don't believe most in the club ever had his back tbh - SAF included. But you're right, he's dealt with all pressure admirably. I really don't want us to treat him like shit. Best let him leave with some dignity.

Agreed. At this moment, sacking him will do more harm. The team is playing better, they seem more galvanized, etc. Still in Europa, still in FA Cup and with the way the season is going, fourth place is still within a shout. The current top 4 all play against each other next week and United have to win against Sunderland.
That's not really my reasoning.

A new manager without a transfer window and just 15 games wont change anything.

For me, its not really about how the season is going, rathers its how we've performed ourselves.

If we dont make top 4, then i'll accept that. If we do, its a bonus.

Louis van Gaal responded angrily to questions about his job after his Manchester United side drew 1-1 with Chelsea.

Jesse Lingard’s goal looked to have earned United a first win over Chelsea since October 2012, but Costa capitalised on Daley Blind’s stoppage-time error to tuck in his seventh goal in nine games.

Jose Mourinho has been repeatedly linked with succeeding Louis van Gaal at Manchester United and the visitors’ Dutch boss would have been disappointed to see the lead lost. The Dutchman reacted angrily when those links were mentioned after the game.

“Why do the club have to deny when you’re inventing stories? I can say you are getting the sack tomorrow,” Van Gaal said. “What about your wife? Your children?”

“It was not a boring match. For the third time in a row, it was sparkling. So I hope to get the support of the media this week.”

“You write what you like. Maybe you remember the [difficult] first years of Fergie. You have to study the stats. You must do your research.”

“It is deep frustration for me because we were the better team. Again, we did not win and we had the chances but we did not win.

“I think we played a superb game until the last quarter,” Van Gaal continued. “We did not keep the ball and we did not play the attack in the way I think we have to do. We were unlucky that we got the goal against us, it was unbelievable. We did not reward ourselves.

“It is deep frustration for me because we were the better team. Again, we did not win and we had the chances but we did not win.

“When your aim is to be third, second or first then you need to win because the gap is already big and the gap is now bigger than before and that is not good.

“I know that we have to play a very nasty away duel and match against Chelsea. Of course, I shall say to my players that it was a fantastic performance until the last quarter, I have said that already, but we have to reward ourselves because it is not the first time this has overcome us.”

You know that millions of guys marry those hot girls and are happy with them?;)

Need to get behind the manager, if he's to go in the summer so be it. But until then it all needs to be solid, we need to make sure we're in those CL places come the end of the season.
City made this big song and dance about pep during the week and look what happened yesterday. I'd not be surprised to see their season derailed as the players know they don't have to play for this guy anymore.
Don't want that happening to us.

Yeah but only the loaded flash cnuts, us normals dont do well with the hotties, always looking over your shoulder for the flash cnut.

You're right Mo. Whatever is happening to LVG at the end of the season - we don't need this distraction now. I sure hope Ed speaks to Louis about this or tries to shut the mouths of whomever leaked the information in the first place.

United and all the teams who finish in CL places have earned it. If Leicester win the league, they've earned it through 38 matches in ten months. You can't complain about it. United haven't earned a CL place to date and the table doesn't lie.

If you're given a task with a definitive timeline, you'll do anything and everything to succeed in that task. Nothing of significance happened during the winter window. If a new manager comes in during the new season, you hope they recognize the current players and quality United have and can build upon that and try not to revamp the entire squad. United are only a couple of new players away and with the hopefully progression of current players like Darmian, Shaw, CBJ, Blind, Memphis, Martial, Lingard, Januzaj, etc. United should be better next year.

It's not some kind of unrealistic expectation for United to be secure in the top 4 whilst some rebuilding takes places at the same time.

Quite right.

At least not unless one can point to specific factors which make said rebuilding particularly difficult - and which may explain how it's possible (and understandable) that we go from struggling in LVG's initial season to struggling even worse in his second.

if it's over for him why wait , still have europa lea........... feck it who cares. we win feckall with him

I like LvG and he is a good manager with a great career, but, he just cant turn things around and be a success here. This happen to everyone. Mourinho at Chelsea this season is only one recent example. There are plenty more examples to go. The solution for me is 1. Give time or 2. Move on. I think maybe solution 2 is right for LvG.

I know.

If Leicester or Spurs make it, then you have to give them all the plaudits. It'll be sad though being away from the UCL for a 2nd time in 3rd seasons, if it does happen.

Its just been a rough couple of years, and this wont make it any easier.

On a serious note and team managed by Mourinho or Simeone and with De Gea as a goalkeeper must be a nightmare for the opponents.

Don't agree with bumping this thread today. His tactics were spot on, as well as his starting eleven.

It's easy to blame the subs, but this is entirely correct:

No, the subs were poor. He didn't instruct Depay to mis-place passes and give the ball away.

We could qualify for CL if we win the Europe League?

Yes the team that wins the EL automatically qualifies for the group stage of the CL.

It is better than the ticket you get when finishing 4th, then you still have play offs to do (like we did in the summer versus Brugge) and in case an english team that isn't in the top 4 would win the CL (Chelsea) we would actually lose out on CL football.

Our first and foremost priority this season should be the EL. I swear to god if we field a B-team or give priority to the FA-cup we will be the dumbest feckers in history of football. I'd even say the EL has priority over the league from now on, because lets face it we won't get 4th place, simple as that. We were still within a shot if we won but not anymore.

We are the flash cnut lol

Yeah, and Maureen isn't that hot.

He's borderline damaged goods.

We're borderline damaged goods too, I suppose.

Formerly flash cnut who's now a bit desperate - with Maureen a former hottie who's a bit desperate herself. Seems like a decent match to me.

He's more deluded than any Scouser.

We didn't draw the match cause we were unlucky, but cause we were shit since the moment we scored the goal. And our best player, by 12 parsecs was our keeper, which puts the unlucky argument in the bin.

Chelsea had better chances than us during the entire course of the game, and the draw was the correct result.

I agree with you. We need to have a real focus to win the EL. I dont think we stand a chance on the top 4. I hope I am wrong though.

It's easy to blame the subs, but this is entirely correct:

He should know how shit Memphis is and not bring him in the game. He should also see that Fellaini was having a good game and could be important for us to defend set pieces ( we conceded alot of free kicks and corners).

You go 1-0 up, you shut up shop, espeically if you see how much Chelsea were pressuring us. The subs were all wrong in that regard.

EL winner getting an extra spot, but UCL winner not is the most stupid rule in the existence of football.

Agree that EL should be our top priority, but I think that the likes of BVB and Napoli would easily defeat us there. Still, there is no harm on trying.

Spot on

The way I see it, the game had two parts:

First part Chelsea was sitting deep and defending, letting us have the ball because they were playing for a point. We dominated posession (obviously) and were in control. We didn't create alot of chances because lacked tempo in our attacks and creativity to create some space (as per usual). However Lingard did manage to make a very good goal and with the few chances we had we grabbed the lead.

Second part Chelsea had to come if they still wanted to get something of this game so they did. They pressured us onto our own half, creating some dangerous chances on which DDG needed to pull out some of his best saves this season, resulted in alot of corners and free kicks. In the end we made a mistake under pressure and resulted in a last minute goal from them.

Both teams were equal to eachother and deserved the draw they got.

Far from a good performance because Chelsea is n14 in the league and still struggling against most teams they play. They defend pretty well since Guus became caretaker but if you get the lead against them than you should be able to hold on against it and get the 3 points. We struggled against their defence and we couldn't hold on to our lead, so in no way is this a good performance for me.

“Why do the club have to deny when you’re inventing stories? I can say you are getting the sack tomorrow,” Van Gaal said. “What about your wife? Your children?”

First part is fair. The club don't have to deny or confirm anything. Second part is where he should've kept his mouth shut. He's already made the "think of the children" point, milking it is starting to look desperate - not to say annoyingly petulant. He's the manager of one of the world's most famous football clubs. He isn't a regular Joe who's being frivolously attacked by the media.

“It was not a boring match. For the third time in a row, it was sparkling. So I hope to get the support of the media this week.”

Yeah, good luck with that.

I'm sick of trying to find excuses for this guy. Every time we put in a good performance, I delude myself into thinking we just might be getting some momentum but I should always count on his atrocious in-game decisions to feck everything up.

Does any other team in the PL go into a defensive shell after scoring like we do? Naturally at SB we couldn't play recklessly but after we scored our approach seemed to be like Sunderland or QPR trying to get a draw on the road. We had practically no one going forward in the last 15-20 minutes and we kept inviting Chelsea to put pressure on us.

His substitutions were, as usual, terrible. I actually wanted Schnneiderlin on to put an extra body in the midfield but why take off Fellaini when there are so many reasons to keep him on? For one thing, Fellaini was having IMO a very good game in breaking up Chelsea's play around the box, he was not on a yellow, and how can you take him out of a game where corners and free kicks were coming from all angles?

Memphis was also a ridiculous change to make, seeing that he loses the ball too much and we were needing possession. Herrera was the player to bring in for attacking the space Chelsea were leaving us through the middle and this clown brings him on a minute before the whistle. I seriously don't know why Herrera would want to stay at this club when he never gets a chance.

This game has left me pretty convinced that we have a good group of players but we have a manager who is really not very good. I can't really believe the amount of cache he had when coming here and the complete underperformance we're getting from him. IMO he's not even the best of the Dutch managers currently in the PL, let alone one of the best in the world. And to be brutally honest, the likes of Koeman, Hiddink, and LVG seem to be in their own private competition in trying to outdo one another while none of them are even faintly close to winning anything. I know we've had great players like Ruud and RVP, and I like Blind and Memphis a lot, but I wish those 3 managers would all feck off to the continent and leave their jobs to someone who can look beyond their small-time egos.

The "Think of the children!" stuff needs to end but I do like the addition of sparkling to his vocabulary. He's right that the club don't need to deny the Jose stuff but they did deny the Pep meeting, which maybe should tell Vangle something......

To bad we didnt have Jose in helm today vs Chelsea, would enjoy watching boeing 747 parked in front of DDG for 90 min.

Parking it there for the last 15 would have done today.

He's had two years, untold amounts of money and a league declining in quality at the top end, yet he still looks like he's going to miss out on the top 4. Basically he has shit the bed and we need to move on.

Well yeah...there's that.

Very disappointed by the end of that game.. he has no idea of how to see out a game, it is so Wenger-esque. I thoroughly enjoyed our performance for the most part considering we are the away side, some of our possession play and defensive work was top notch.

In that last 20 mins, we needed some pace up front to help us push them back.. we needed our strongest defensive players on the pitch to ensure we didn't break down and we needed some ball carriers.

So he takes off Lingard who is good at tracking back, can give us pace on the counter and carries the ball.. yet keeps on Mata who offers none of the above. Keeps Rooney up front where he offers absolutely nothing in the last 20 minutes because he has zero hold up play and no pace to stretch the opposition and then takes off Fellaini when we are backs to the wall.

It was like someone pressing the suicide button, an utter shambles. Really ruined what was a brilliant days work. Things are definitely looking up though, this side has 3/4 really top players and that is enough.. bring in some more talent, get Jose in and we could easily be title contenders next year. Martial is a Messi level talent.. a title winner.
