That's a good point. However, would you risk sacrificing a champions league spot for the sake of the three youth players? It's a hard dilemma because we aren't exactly guaranteed to win anything with a new manager either, but are guaranteed that Mourinho will shit on our youth. At least that's what we expect.

I suppose it would depend on Mourinho's ambitions; going off his recent interview it sounds as though he wants to settle down in England. Maybe he'd be more concerned with youth if that were the case?
That's a ridiculous notion. Youth for the sake of it ahead of the success of the club?

Basically both sides of LvG on display there. Good, mostly dominant performance in a big away game, but fail to really get that cutting edge and then too quick to go into "see out the game" mode. We should have kept playing as we were after we scored for a little while, not just parked the bus right away. Something like 90% possession for Chelsea those last 15 minutes, we were never going to last.

Spot on. Once again he was very close to getting it right. I wont fault the performance too much it was positive and bold hopefully something for the team to build upon.

I wish he didn't bring on Memphis tho.
The sub was just stupid. I have high hopes for Memphis, but it just wasn't the situation to bring him on. You bring him on when you're chasing a goal first of all, not when we've all decided to park the bus and do nothing but hoof it out. Secondly, he has hardly played any minutes recently, and he throws him on in the last 10 minutes or so, with no match sharpness. Just a stupid sub. If he gave him time in previous games so he's actually kind of sharp and has some confidence, then sure, but this was just kinda pointless.

Trust me, there would be little moaning if we left with 3 points. Its obviously knee jerking from the emotionally flaccid.
I've maintained my position that I want him out and Jose in for months now.

Watching United used to be what I look forward to under Sir Alex, nowadays just gets me furious with the inept manager backed by the inept board every week.

It's such a shame we didn't hold onto that game, but we made our own bed earlier in the season to make away at Chelsea a must win! How often do we ever win there in the league! We did a few seasons ago in that mad game they had 2 sent off in, but baring that I can't remember the last league win.
Yeah they've been generally pony this season, but we're playing them back on the up.

Real shame.

Sunderland then 3 cup games before it's league time again. Hope we get some momentum rocking.

They were 1 point ahead of us (and joint top with City) when we drew 1-1 with them right at the end of November. To fall 12 points behind is just shit.

ouch , LVG hasn't done anything with this side. the top four and righting the ship is bullshit. the over riding legacy will be failure. anyone getting united into the top four should be expected not lauded.

Well isn't that a problem then? He's following a "textbook approach" without actually analysing the players he's bringing on/off the pitch.

I mean, we've all seen Memphis play this season... I don't think anyone can convince me that 1 goal up at Stamford Bridge when we're under pressure is the right time to bring him on the pitch.

Yes I agree, really poor substitution. I wouldn't even use the whole season though. Coming on recently he hasn't looked with it at all. Looks a bit sulky and tired. Last few minutes at the Bridge, we needed to make up for the bad results and win here where we don't usually.

The quality of our football was leaps and bounds better than the previous 90% of the year. This thread would be relatively silent if not for the late equalizer, which just proves the kneejerk logic of anyone attempting to use today's performance against LvG.
The thread was bumped before the goal with people saying they still want him out. The match thread was full of comments bemoaning our cowardice after talking the lead and wanting him out at this point is pretty much the antithesis of knee jerk.

Its true we have improved from being compleletly crap...but to hang on to 3 points...any decent mamager would make a decent sub.

Firstly we should not have sat back so much for much of the game. Secondly we should have put in a defensive midfielder instead of Depay.

Trust me, there would be little moaning if we left with 3 points. Its obviously knee jerking from the emotionally flaccid.
Well, true. But he still should have gone ages ago. The reason we didn't win is partly down to him too.

Not sure why this thread is still going. Van Gaal is gone in May at the latest.
We need to be showing some class now and getting behind him till he goes.

Absolutely no reason to get behind him other than to push him out the fecking door, I support UTD not LVB and the best thing for UTD would be to get rid in December but that didn't happen so he needs to go ASAP!

I want him out too, but not based on drawing away at Chelsea when we played well, but because of the tumescent backwards passing shite we were until a few weeks ago.

Fecking hell, Memphis cost us? The way he performed? They were waltzing through our entire team for the last 20 minutes, watch the game, we had 7% possession for the last 15. 7%. What a stupid, ridiculous thing to say. He tried to win a corner, he would have but Courtois was quick to get it. If he tries holding it up he'd have been doubled up and they'd have won it anyway, this place has a ridiculous agenda against Memphis. How about you blame the shitters who gave up at the 70th minute trying to sit on a 1-0 lead when their best defender got stretchered off? We got lucky they didn't get 3/4 in the last 20.

And they were lucky we weren't 2-3 up in the first half-hour.. Costa had that one header in the 87th but no much more. Memphis fecked up and should had sprinted back after but didn't.

How long is he going to live off these "it was a good performance"? Its no use if we can't finish and get results. Good performances dont take you anywhere. At the end of the day we need 3 points.

I don't want him out based on drawing with Chelsea, I just want him out, as soon as possible.

The whistle was blown at the 95.58......wheres he getting this "6 minutes was up before the corner" shit from?

I guarantee some on here will fall into the scouse boom-bust logic. We'll play slightly better and they'll convince themselves things have clicked and next season will be the season under LvG.

Why sack a manager while the team is playing well?
I remember when Dave Sexton was sacked in 81. Although he was sacked at the end of the season, United went on a fantastic run until the end of the season.

He's not saying it was a good performance. He's very frustrated right now because the players didn't keep the ball but kept hoofing it.

 great subs per usual so no not knee jerk at all. can't manage a side anymore. he;s shit TBF

it's like a sine wave right now.

But he didn't really do anything to remedy this, so shouldn't he be frustrated with himself?

I mean, our best player on the bench at keeping and using the ball is Herrera... and he came on in the 93rd minute.

This, some may even want him to stay if we manage to claw the gap back a little and we finish 5th by a small margin. :nervous:

Some people seem to love glorious failure.

It's not the agenda against Depay, it's the ridiculous agenda against LvG. It has to be his fault so it's the sub. Tactically he completely outsmarted Hiddink, his players were playing together much better than Chelsea, which is much more expensive squad also. Only the players weren't calm enough to keep possession when they needed to, they wanted score from a counter. If there's any match the full blame is on the players, it's this one.

I'm not sure Herrera is the player you want when you need to keep the ball, his passing can be erratic at the best of times.

Firing him is just futile right now.

Its unlikely we'll make the champions league with or without him, and i think that we can make the europa league with him.

Lets just see out the rest of the season, its too late for change.
Who cares if we qualify for the Europa, we just need to see the back of him to turn a new page, much like the sacking of Moyes relieved the doom and gloom surrounding the club 2 years ago.

There's a lot of football to go. One of those teams in the top four could collapse. It's whether we can keep playing well.

It can be, but he's still the best player on the bench for it. At the very least, he doesn't shit himself under pressure.

You don't have to be the best player at keeping and using the ball, in order to keep and use the ball. Herrera is also not very good at keeping it, in any case. It's clear his instructions were different to what the players did. He can't go out on the pitch and "really do" something. What he could do was put a CM in and he did that.

playing to kill game = herrera

chasing a goal = depay (it could happen)

LVG does the opposite.

Agreed. At this moment, sacking him will do more harm. The team is playing better, they seem more galvanized, etc. Still in Europa, still in FA Cup and with the way the season is going, fourth place is still within a shout. The current top 4 all play against each other next week and United have to win against Sunderland.

For someone who has been around for so long, he doesn't really get substitutions does he? For me I knew we'd lose as soon as Memphis came on. Just screamed of when we threw it away against Newcastle.

I think everyone realizes that Mourinho will be in charge next season. A new era.
